MODULAR AND COMPACT LABELLING SYSTEMS FOR FRONT AND BACK APPLICATION ONTO CYLINDRICAL PRODUCTS

T

hanks to the countless labelling solutions already developed by LABELPACK, designed for the application of one or more labels onto cylindrical products, managing the in-line printing of variable data and barcodes, the company is able to face and solve many identification and customisation issues. One of the most requested solutions is the labelling system for front and back application onto cylindrical, oval and rectangular products, which also includes the possibility of applying a warranty label. All these applications are now possible thanks to the MODULAR and COMPACT systems. The highest technological solution is realised with the MODULAR system, an “open frame� modular

structure made in stainless steel featuring several automatic labelling systems for top and bottom application. The system consists of a centralised electronic control panel placed on a balcony structure with PLC and Touch Screen operator panel. Moreover, the speed functioning can be electronically synchronized and the fast regulations with numerical indicators facilitate the format change and the following repositioning to previous position. The conveying systems are placed on the balcony structure making them easy to clean and avoiding spillage onto remote parts of the machine that can be difficult to reach and clean. LABELX labelling units operate with a maximum label width of 140250mm and can integrate the units designed by MARKEM, VIDEOJET, SAVEMA, ALLEN, etc... for the in-line printing of variable data, barcodes and other relevant information. COMPACT labelling systems are the “entry level” series including 8 standard models and several customised solutions. They are equipped with LABELX JR labellers, which operate with a maximum label length of 350mm and maximum label height of 140/250mm. COMPACT TS, COMPACT TB and COMPACT BS are the labelling systems for top and bottom applications onto trays, cases, boxes, flow-

packs and bags. The conveying systems are available in different models (flat belt, plastic chains, stainless steel chains) and can be customised in length and width according to the dimensions of the product and the requirements of the packaging production line. All COMPACT labelling systems can be equipped with one or more thermal transfer printing units of variable data, barcodes and other relevant information. To complete the labelling system other accessories and options are available: sensors for transparent labels, product spacers and stabilisers, rotary tables for inline loading and accumulation.

A specific refractometer installed in by-pass on the filling machine feeding line, allows the constant check

This product is best suited for “difficult” productions (up to 70% of solid particles suspended) and it was awarded as innovative technology at SIMEI 2015. “Lees-Stop” is specifically realized for products rich in suspended solid particles, and substitutes the traditional polymeric membranes of crossflow filters with sintered stainless steel. Sinterization is a heat treatment for steel powder during which steel particles are welded together without reaching the melting point. Numerous tests showed how this material is ideal for

cross-flow filtrations of high turbidity liquids, yielding out-flow products with concentrations up to 95% v/v. Sinterized steel particles arrangement provides it with high mechanical and chemical resistance, resulting in a very high tolerance to high pressure, heat-shock, hits and high pHs. Hi-tech shrinkwrappers for every need The new LSK, CSK and SK ERGON series of automatic shrinkwrappers enable to package a large range of containers made of PET, other plastic, glass, aluminium or cardboard in shrink film only (F model), cardboard flat pad +

shrink film (P model) or corrugated cardboard tray + shrink film (T model). In the case of shrink film only, the SK series can reach an output rate of 450 packs/

minute (small size packs packaged in triple lane). Recently, a new series has been launched: the new AFW ERGON series of compact packers for the packaging in shrink film with 90° infeed, especially suitable for the packaging of square- or rectangular-based products; even this range is available in F, P and T models with output rates up to 40 packs/minute. All packers of the LSK, CSK, SK and AFW series have capitalised on the numerous innovations introduced by the ERGON platform which was applied for the first time a couple of years ago to the automatic SK

The ERGON packers distinguish themselves for the typical ergonomic design featuring slightly rounded sliding doors which enable to place all the motors externally compared to the mechanical groups they activate, thus facilitating the access for maintenance interventions. The sliding doors’ closure system, made of light, varnished and corrosion-resistant aluminium, is equipped with a soft closer avoiding any sort of hazard when closing the doors. SMI’s new secondary packaging machines are equipped almost exclusively with brushless motors whereas traditional motors are installed only on the shrink tunnel and on the cardboard climb. This solution ensures more efficiency, precision of movements, reduced energy waste and low energy consumption. Furthermore, the ERGON packers are equipped with a POSYC

control panel incorporating an user-friendly manmachine interface with touchscreen display and advanced functions of diagnostics and real-time technical support. The new shrink tunnels of the ERGON series boast cutting-edge technical solutions ensuring low energy consumption, the maximum environmental compatibility of production processes and the high quality of the final pack. At the shrink tunnel outlet a conveyor links the belt of the tunnel to the conveyor belts of the production line; this link is ventilated for the

proper thermal transition of the pack. SMI’s new systems are designed to ensure the operator an easy and safe access to the inner parts during cleaning and maintenance operations which are much reduced compared to traditional systems. Very high productivity and automation in the wash meet in the HP model in the same series. Despite the sophistication, just an operator to remotely manage the entire wash cycle, verifying operation via control systems. The tubes of external washing are constructed so as to reduce maintenance to a minimum. But in case it will be necessary, the dismantling and cleaning are very simple. The regulation of the temperature in the tanks is automated through

a modulating proportional pneumatic system, which offers a guarantee of accuracy and safety of operation. The main motor, oversized, ensures a long lasting efficiency by minimizing the mechanical wear. The electronic variable frequency allows to manage the main engines installed in HYDRA HP series via remote control. The automatic press for the collection of labels evacuated from the detergent bath is full of a recovery system of the detergent solution that accumulates in the pressing phase.
