ITINERÀNNIA, NETWORK OF TRAILS

ENG

“Itinerànnia” is a network of trails, with over 2,500 kilometres between the neighbouring regions of “Ripollès”, “Garrotxa” and “Alt Empordà”. A network of hiking trails is like a road map, but with footpaths, allowing the hiker to get from any one point to another. It retrieves the old historic roads between the villages to reach many small places. The network offers many different hikes depending on the time or difficulty and your interests over nature, architecture or culture. Each route that we propose is just a little taste of an extensive network of trails that you can walk to discover the Ripollès, Garrotxa and Alt Emprdà counties.

RIPOLLÈS

THE SIGNS All the trails of the network are marked regularly over the paths with horizontal painted yellow signs.

PATH'S MARKS (3 x 10 cm)

TURN LEFT/RIGHT

WRONG PATH

The marks are placed approximately every 300 metres painted on tree's bark, stones or using and other medium already deployed in the area. In the cross roads you will find signposts indicating the nearest four villages in each direction with time information. (a maximum of 6 hours) If the same village or town appears more than once on different signs of the same signpost, you will need to read the description below the town. If there is no description below the place name then you are looking at the shortest route to the town or village. If the indication says “Per...” (I.e via) it means that this is a longer alternative route to get to the same place. Each signpost has a small plaque that shows the name of the place where it is located, the altitude and the UTM coordinates. You will find information boards with a map of the county's trails in every village or city integrating the network.

+INFO: www.itinerannia.net www.elripolles.com In the Ripollès county you will find 18 touch screens located in different towns containing tourist information. Aquesta actuació està subvencionada pel Servei d’Ocupació de Catalunya en el marc del Projecte “Treball a les 4 Comarques” i cofinançada pel Fons Social Europeu.

A ROUTE THROUGH THE MINING BASIN OF SURROCA AND OGASSA

ITINERÀNNIA NETWORK ROUTE ROAD-TRAIL RIVER TOURIST SERVICES (see website) VERTICAL SIGNPOSTS OF THE NETWORK

The route starts in “Surroca de Baix”, a small neighbourhood in the municipality of Ogassa. It is a former mining colony founded in 1870 to provide services and housing for the employees who worked in the coal mines in the area. From the R36 sign Colònia minera de Surroca - Plaça Dolça head towards “Sant Martí d'Ogassa”. Pass along “Mina Dolça”, situated across the stream, and climb some stairs up to a coal factory. After a short but steep climb you arrive at “Ca l'Ermangol”, at this point leave the Itinerànnia marks that go upwards. Continue straight ahead along a wide and flat path, an old wagons road, where you can see the old cable station used to lift down the coal from the highest areas of the basin. You will arrive at the “Plaça del Taller” square where at the end of an inclined plain you will see a spring and the Pinter mine. Walk up the path, while enjoying the “Torrent de la Font Gran” waterfalls until you arrive at the same source of the stream. To continue with the route you must walk up to the “Prat Pinter” colony, where there is a church, a school and houses of the former miners. Here, beside a fountain, you can see again the Itinerànnia route marks. Walk up the main road following the marks, and then take a wide track until you get to a farm's gate standing in your way. You have to go left climbing up a trail that ends up becoming a little path until you get to the main road once again. From now on, follow this road to the right. You will arrive at “Sant Martí de Surroca”, a Romanesque church from the 11th century, and worth a visit. Continue along the same road, ignoring any detour, until you arrive at the R38 sign Coll de la Creu. Go towards Ogassa through “Roqueters”, carefully following the marks that will lead you to a trodden path while surrounding the hill of “La Caritat” through the left. Stay on the path passing along a reddish rocky area with little vegetation until you arrive at the wide “Coll de Sabè” pass. Pay attention to the marks and head right going deeper into the shady beech forest of Assuca. The pleasant and relatively flat trail will lead you to a small pass allowing you to cross over to the sunny side of the mountain. As you rapidly descent towards the “Roqueters” farmhouse a magnificent view of the southern mountains opens up right in front of you.
