President The ITLA is doing it the correct way and the Longhorn world is noticing. The 32nd edition of the Longhorn Judging Clinic was a great success with participation and positive comments from all over the world. Thank you to Darol Dickinson, Kirk Dickinson, Dr. Keith Berkeley, and John Oliver for their efforts to bring forth a successful event. The first ever ITLA Miniature Longhorn Show was held during the recent Chisholm Trail Affiliate Spring Show. Miniature breeders traveled many states and filled up the barn along with many standard size exhibitors attending their first ITLA Show. Social media raved on the quality event and how spending time with the ITLA family is time well spent. Thank you to Chisholm Trail President Danielle Merchon for hosting the show. The new on line Drover magazine has been well received and successful in raising awareness of the ITLA and Longhorns. Thank you to Russell Hooks and Kacie Ging for the magazine’s production. Futurities are in full swing where winners from all over the country will converge at the All Star Futurity to compete for the ultimate win. Thank you to John and Christi Randolph for all their good work in chairing the Futurity Committee. The ITLA opened its doors and hosted a luncheon for the Millennium Futurity that was standing room only. Many Longhorn breeders were impressed with the only member owned headquarters in Longhorn history. Thank you to Russell Hooks and the staff for allowing the ITLA to showcase our beautiful headquarters. The ITLA has great success when folks get engaged and give back but we need more. If you are in an area that would benefit from starting up an affiliate, hosting a ranch field day, putting on a qualifying show, holding a qualifying futurity, etc., please get in touch with the ITLA. The ITLA will do all we can to assist in assuring that success is achieved on every level.

ITLA Luncheon On May 10th, the International Texas Longhorn Association hosted a Luncheon at their headquarters’ office for the exhibitors and breeders that were attending the Millennium Futurity.
The ITLA headquarters is located just up the hill above the Somervell County Expo Center were the Millennium was being held. The ITLA staff, directors and officers were on hand to greet guests as they began arriving at 11 am. Guests were treated to an assortment of finger sandwiches, sliders, cheeses, fruits and of course desert. At times it was standing room only. Everyone enjoyed the food but most of all they enjoyed the fellowship with their fellow Texas Longhorn breeders. Guests were able to tour the office building and grounds as well as see some the memorabilia in the office that tells the history of the ITLA and the headquarters. One of the highlights for some of those in attendance was the mounted
skull of John Stockton’s great, King of the Road steer. He was one of the first steers to measure over a 100” tip-to-tip and was one of only three steers to be cloned, with some of the clones being used as herd sires. King of the Road was also a multiple show champion.
Longhorns if they are in Italy? That might be a topic for another day. Katarina, welcome to the ITLA Longhorn family.
ITLA also lived up to the “International” part of their name with a guest from Bolzano, Italy. We were honored that Katarina Lunger made the ITLA Luncheon part of her visit to the USA. She is the proud owner of two Longhorns. Are they still Texas

We hope everyone enjoyed their visit to the ITLA Headquarters and thank you to those who acquired new memberships or renewed

Letter from the
Youth Director Howdy! What a great month the ITLA has had. We just wrapped up the CTTLA show in McKinney, Texas, with record entry numbers. Thank you to all of our sponsors, exhibitors, breeders, show volunteers, and everyone involved in making this show such a huge success, as well as Danielle Mershon and the fantastic job she did as the show chair. The ITLA had quite a historic moment at the CTTLA as they hosted the very first inaugural “Mini Longhorn Youth Show”. The ITLA is so grateful to all the mini breeders and exhibitors for joining the ITLA and supporting our youth program. Our membership numbers keep rising as well as our cattle registrations. It’s an exciting time for the ITLA Youth program as we work together to grow and improve. Fun and exciting times are ahead. We were blessed by the generosity of John & Christy Randolph of Lonesome Pines. They donated two very handsome, show quality steers to the CTTLA and our lucky ITLA youth members that won them are Colton and Danalee. Congratulations ! Don’t forget that the ITLA Championship Show & Convention is coming up in October. It will be held in Sulphur Springs, Texas. As more details come together on this event we will post them on the ITLA and ITLA Youth Facebook pages. If you are interested in joining the ITLA you can go to www.itla.com or email me anytime. I would be happy to help you become part of our longhorn family. Until next time... see you all down trail. Thank you, Cori Garcia ITLA Youth Director Rafter-M-Ranch@hughes.net

Kylie Gannon Hi, my name is Kylie. I go to school in Weatherford, Texas. I am 14 years old and in the eighth grade. My family has had longhorns for a few years, but this is my first year showing. I was introduced to the amazing industry by a family friend who showed in her youth. It has been a life changing experience being able to meet new people and make incredible friendships. I never knew that I would fall in love with a breed as much as I have with longhorns. Their goofy and gentle characteristics melt my heart, and I become more in awe each day with these animals. I plan on showing for many years to come and am looking forward to continuing educating myself on the breed and history of longhorns. I am so grateful for the friendships that I have made while showing and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

reviews of the clinics many participants.
The 32nd Texas Longhorn Judging Clinic was a great success. The comments have been positive and the ITLA lived up to its name with multiple international Longhorn participants. Thank you to Mr. Darol Dickinson, Dr. Keith Berkeley, and Mr. John Oliver for presentations that enlightened and educated. A special thank you to Kirk Dickinson for his many years of Judging Clinic service with the behind the scenes production. - Larry Smith ITLA President
The information from this online clinic has been helpful in evaluating longhorn cattle. Having participated in the first clinic and this latest one, I have used the information to “judge” the animals we have both raised and purchased over the years. The point was made that there is no perfect animal, but through the pictures and discussion it was encouraging to see there is an attainable goal. Thanks to all who put in the time and effort to make this a great learning opportunity! - Becky McCammon
ITLA Texas Longhorn Judging Clinic Overall the clinic was well presented, the material was informative and useful. Hearing from experienced judges on the attributes to look for, techniques to view the show animals along with the best way to relay the reasons for placing each animal in the class. Additionally the information presented on how to judge the potential for young animals was very informative. All the information will be used to help evaluate our existing heed and continue to produce high quality animals with all the attributes that make Texas Longhorns the iconic symbol of Texas and the west.

Getting up at 2 am has never been such a pleasure before! Here in Europe, people make up their own mind about what’s good on Longhorns and there is no guide and also not much Kacie Ging, Longhorn Drover Intern
knowledge on what to look for and how to evaluate a Texas Longhorn. Some only go for colour, some only for horns, some for muscles. But it is the package and the evaluation a judge does to be able to do breeding Longhorns instead of producing calves only. For many years I was the only person in Europe that attended such an online judging clinic. For me it was very important to get more people here to attend the last clinic. I believe this clinic is the best offer for us here to gain knowledge and it fits everybody,

News Our Spring Fling was a huge success and we can’t begin to thank everyone that helped make that possible….to our Judges, our ring stewards, the great group of people who helped run the nonhaltered show, to our sponsors, exhibitors/owners, participates! This show would not be possible without yall! It was a long day on Saturday with Youth, Haltered, Non-Haltered and ITLA’s first ever Miniature Show. We had exhibitors/owners travel as far as New Mexico to participate! We want to thank AK Ranch for graciously providing lunch on Saturday which consisted of home smoked pulled pork sandwiches and all the fixings! It was awesome! We also had the drawing for the two gorgeous steers that were so graciously donated by John and Christy Randolph of Lonesome Pines Ranch. Colton McCarty was the first youth awarded a steer and he was allowed to have first choice of the steers. He chose the
gorgeous red and white roan steer. The second steer was awarded to Danalee Able. Congrats to both of the recipients and thank you to the Randolph’s for your generosity in supporting our youth, the future! Sunday morning started off with our general membership meeting, which all was welcome to attend, where we elected Officers for this year. President: Danielle Mershon, Vice President: Dave Sullivan, and Secretary/Treasurer: Sabina Knoerr. We discussed our upcoming fall show that will be held September 14th, 2019 at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur, Tx. We will be having Haltered and youth classes with both Standards and Miniatures this day. It will be a 1 day fun day, come as you are show, no bathing, no show halters! It will be a good one. More details will be available soon! We followed our meeting with the 2nd round of Haltered and Non-haltered show. Congratulations to all our champions!
A special Prize
My name is Danalee, and I have been showing longhorns since September. When I heard my name called to win the calf, I was so happy because it was the first calf that I’ve won. I thought it was very exciting because it was the one I liked the most. I like his dark brindle color and the white part on his top line. He’s calm gentle, and he likes to eat books and give kisses. I picked the name Black Pearl because he has black brindle and his sire’s name is Pearl Snap BCB. My favorite part about showing longhorns is that most of them are calm and easy to handle. I want to thank the Randolphs for donating Black Pearl.

NETL A
NorthEast Texas Longhorn Association
We here in the Northeast have been having a busy spring. The grass is greening up and the weather has been nice and warm. The youth had a great fund raiser at the Cherry Blossom Sale in April. Thanks to all the hard work of the youth and their parents along with some generous donations, they raised over 1300 dollars for their youth fund. This can help with expenses throughout the year along with going to the National Show. We also want to thank Todd and Rozi Spaid for the generous donation of a young bull to sell in the sale to benefit the youth and Dwayne and Megan Dinsmore for the donation of some great bull semen for the youth as well. We are proud to announce the Netla consignment sale, which is June 1 at 10 AM in Hagerstown, MD has 80 consignments. We look forward to seeing all of you there. We then start off our show season with our Netla Two Day Show June 22 and 23. This is both a haltered and unhaltered show along with a futurity. All of our information is on our facebook and web site. Hope to see you at our events this summer. Jodi King, Netla Pres.
The ORVTLA meeting was held on April 13, 2019 at Jitters CafÊ in Millersburg Ohio. Lots of members were in attendance, a total of 19 members were present. The Meeting was called to order by president Amber Dunmire. Ed Callan talked about how this year’s booth went at Beef expo. The Longhorn Steer mount was a good asset this year and caught a lot of peoples eye. The slideshow was also good about drawing people into the booth. We also spoke about the awards for the show and the futurity. All awards are secured and we are looking forward to handing them out to the winners. We are still taking sponsors and ads for our show book. Please contact Amber Dunmire at bonnieglenfarm@gmail.com to place an ad or to sponsor a class. Ohio River Valley will be sponsoring a banquet Friday night after the Futurity to be held at the Best Western in downtown Wooster. Please plan to attend to socialize and relax after the futurity. Awards will also be
given out at the banquet. We also have rooms blocked off at the Best Western at a special rate. Call (330) 264-7750 and mention Buckeye Classic for the reduced rate. We will be having bovine bingo again this year! Jeff Morris is donating our 2019 heifer and Bovine Bingo tickets are $10. We will also be raffling off a skull and 20 pounds of Texas Longhorn ground beef. Tickets will be $1 and $2 respectively. We will be doing a photo shoot in downtown Wooster, Ohio to
promote our Longhorns and the upcoming show. We are very excited for this opportunity to introduce Longhorns to the public. The excitement in the room was palpable and we are looking forward to having a great show and futurity for all to attend. Show packets are also available. Please send your name, address, and phone number to bonnieglenfarm@gmail.com to have a packet mailed to you. Show packets are also available online at https://bonnieglenfarm.wixsite. com/orvtla
