2024 ITLA PHOTO CONTEST RESULTS
International Breeders Steal the Spotlight in the ITLA Photo Contest 2024! The ITLA Photo Contest 2024 brought Longhorn breeders from all over Europe together, and what a show it was! This year’s entries proved that the passion for Texas Longhorns knows no borders. Breeders from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and beyond shared incredible photos of their prized animals, .making the contest a real celebration of the breed we all love.
In Class 1, which featured younger animals, Austria’s Micha Hamersky from Texas Longhorn Austria had an impressive showing, taking 1st place with Tuxedo's Beauty and 3rd place with Sweet Bella. Germany’s Katja & Axel Groebner from Texas Longhorn Greenwood Ranch snagged 2nd with the adorable GR Miss Daisy. 1ST 3RD 2ND
Over in Class 2, the spotlight stayed on Micha Hamersky, whose Spotted Cowgirl Chex took 1st place. Switzerland’s Urs Weiss-Jost from Texas Longhorn Ranch Switzerland came in 2nd with JH Larissa and MSW Sally Kan Do It from Shiloh Longhorn Ranch GmbH in Germany rounded out the top 3.

A big shoutout also goes to Texas Longhorn SBS, who competed but didn’t place this time. Their beautiful entry still brought so much to the competition, and it’s clear they’re a part of this growing international community of passionate Longhorn breeders.

What an honor to be selected 2024 Overall Showman at the ITLA Championship Show alongside Anthony Quinn. My name is Chapel James and I brought ten head of cattle to the Champ Show and placed second in Teen Showmanship behind Anthony. I helped my fellow showmen anytime that I could and had great time! It was very nice to be recognized for all of my efforts. I genuinely love showing Longhorns and I feel it is my biggest purpose in life at the moment My parents had always wanted to raise Longhorns since they were in college, they were finally able to live out that dream and I am thrilled to be a part of it In the future I plan to use a Longhorn to complete my Girl Scout Gold Award and make an impact on young people in the community.
Why do I love showing? I love showing cattle because of the confidence, education and friends I have gained along the way. When I first started showing Longhorns, I was very timid. The thought of speaking to someone to someone outside of my immediate family was terrifying I had never been put in a situation where I had to be in front of a large audience, much less while handling a large animal that gained a lot of attention. Now, I am not afraid; I want people to look at me and my animal I have gained so much confidence and strength throughout the years of showing Longhorns and I am grateful for it. The educational aspect is another reason I love sowing these cattle. Whether it be giving a speech, dealing with a certain injury or a new technique in the show ring, I have learned so much from the people in this industry; everyone is always open to sharing what they know. Other women in the Longhorn industry have even invited me out to their ranches for tours, to demonstrate ultrasounds and describe the gestation process in cattle Which brings me to the next reason why I adore showing Longhorns, and that would be the friends. I have made many amazing friends in the Longhorn cattle industry and met remarkable people, adults and youth alike, I don’t know where I would be without these people in my life. Not just the people, but the animals too. I truly love Longhorns and their temperament; they are a lot of fun to show because
because they all have different personalities
My family and I got into Longhorns when we moved back to Texas after living overseas. I lived overseas for most of my life, therefor living on a farm was very different to me. When my mom and dad were in college my mom had a horse who lived at a friend’s ranch, this ranch had Longhorns on it, and my parents always said that they wanted a ranch of their own with Longhorns when they grew up When we moved back to Texas, after living in Brazil and Australia, we bought a Longhorn steer from a friend, and we named him Longmire. He was our very first Longhorn; after that, we kept adding to our herd, and we learned that they had Longhorn shows. When our first calves were born at the farm, my brother and I took them to the TLBGCA Mircale Farms show. We had no idea what we were doing, but everyone was so helpful and open to sharing what they knew It was a lot of fun and we were hooked! My family and I continued to grow and correct our herd, and I couldn’t be producer of how far we have come over the years. Currently, I am in the midst of my Girl Scout Gold Award, known as Ian’s Angel. In Girl Scouts you receive the highest possible awards for sustainable service projects that greatly impact communities. In elementary school you would receive the Bronze Award, in middle school you would receive the Silver Award and for high school you receive the Gold Award For this project I will be giving presentations on fentanyl awareness. The whole reasn I came up with the idea is through Longhorns. A few years ago my brother had shown a bull for someone and his name was Ian’s ANgel. We asked where the name came from anf they said it was from a friend named Ian who had passed away Later, we had the opportunity to meet Ian’s mother, Mary She told us his story nd how he had died due to fentanyl poisoning in college Ian wasn’t a drug addict, he was just a boy who took a pill from somone he trusted. When I heard this stiry I knew that I wanted to base my Gold Award off it, and here I am. For my project I will be taking my cow, Ginger, with me to all of my presentations and she will be representing Ian’s Angel. My hope is that having a Texas Longhorn will make my project more memorable to the viewers and therefore leave a lasting impression. I truly hope to make an impact with this project as it means a lot to me, and I want people to remember never to take a pill that wasn’t prescribed by a doctor or specifically bought off the shelf, because one pill really can kill. If you had told that little girl entering the show ring for the very first time how much she would gain from showing Longhorns she would
never have believed you. I am so glad my family wanted to raise Longhorns and even more glad that they made it their dream come true, because without it, I have no idea where I would be in my life, and it probably wouldn’t be as exciting as it is now. I hope that using a Longhorn in my Ian’s Angel campaign will not only draw people’s attention but more importantly save lives. I am so grateful for Longhorns, and I do believe that I am a better person because of them. I was selected by the judge that day of the Youth Show, but I hope the ITLA would also agree with the decision of awarding me 2024 Overall Showman Again, I am thankful and very grateful for the recognition.

It’s my pleasure to write this first letter as your ITLA President; and I’m cognizant of the large shoes to fill that were worn by those who’ve gone before me. But in this first letter, let me reassure you that the state of our Association is very strong and healthy. We have an EXCELLENT Board of Directors, active Affiliates, and members who do all kinds of work behind the scenes to keep us moving in the right direction You’ll notice as you read this issue of the Longhorn Drover that our 2024 International Championship Show was a big success. But the road to that success was not an easy one. Several large obstacles had to be overcome; and it took a lot of hard work from a lot of very dedicated people Ultimately, it took you the members, young and old alike showing up with your beautiful cattle, to make this a great Show. I want to thank each of you who did so. I’m also confident that your leadership learned some things this year that we’ll be rectifying to make next year’s 2025 International Championship Show even better So, what are we doing in this Association, and does our future look bright or not so much? Let me tell you: we are doing A LOT, and the future looks fantastic
This is not a big thing, but with Pam Kinsel-Hughes’ help I will be sending out regular reports through e-blasts and on Facebook, keeping the membership informed during my tenure as President. What IS a big thing, is that very soon you’ll see that the Board of Directors will have passed a budget for the first time in a long time: drafts have already been circulated and are being discussed. That budget will provide a careful use of your funds while proactively providing for marketing and other expenditures designed to grow this Association. As you read this issue of the Longhorn Drover, you’ll also see that Committees of all sorts have already been formed, are chaired, and are just waiting for you to sign up and join. Our website and all things electronic are in very good hands, and plans for upgrades are already being implemented including an online store. And starting in January we will begin planning in earnest for not only the Lone Star Classic (which will see a return in 2025), but for our 2025 International Championship Show! Perhaps most exciting: our youth program is being totally revitalized.Elections for the youth board are on the horizon, as are many other youth-centered activities designed to help grow our young Longhorn producers into our active leaders of tomorrow Will a printed Longhorn Drover return in 2025? What about our tax-free status: will we be a 501(c)(3) or remain a 501(c)(5)? All of these things, and more, are in active discussion and planning…and I’ll be keeping you informed along the way. This is your Association, not just mine. I just work here
So, our future is bright as it can be You know what would help it, though? Your involvement We need creative minds and willing, hard-working hands to help us. Howdy ITLA! My name is Evie Ozanna Westm 2025 Miss ITLA Queen. Here is a little bit about myself: I am 16 years old and I am a sixth generation cattle rancher. I am a Co-Manager of my Family’s ranch, Gang of 5 Longhorns. I am Co-manager alongside my Dad, Brad Westmoreland who is your 2025 ITLA President, my Mom, Anne Westmoreland, and my two older sisters, Camilla and Andelyn Westmoreland. We are blessed to operate our ranch and reside in the great state of Texas.
I am currently getting my college education and I am in my sophomore year. The most important thing that I would like for you to know about me is that I am a Christian. I strive to put Christ at the center of everything that I do, and to carry out the Lord’s will for me in all things, and I pray that I will able to do just that as your 2025 Miss ITLA Queen. I am so incredibly grateful for this opportunity to represent the International Texas Longhorn Association, its members, and our beautiful breed of cattle through this new avenue. I am looking so forward to spending this year with y’all.

My name is Kinzy Metcalf-McGee and I am your 2025 ITLA Princess. I am fifteen years old and I live in Filer, Idaho. I have been working with Longhorns for 3 years, (nearly 4), and while I don’t own any Longhorns myself, I do lease them from my friends, the Miller family. Over the course of these years I have worked with the same Longhorn, a red and white heifer named AM Frosty Petunia, who we often refer to as Tuna. She is my first and biggest drive for showing and working with Longhorns as well as making connections with the ITLA community. She is one of the sweetest and most gentle animals I have ever met and had the pleasure of working with. she often reflects my own personality and attitude, which also allows me to reflect and better myself and my show style with her help.
This year, I was met with the incredible opportunity to travel across the country to the ITLA convention this October. It was my first time at an official Longhorn show outside of my little county fair and I wanted to do absolutely everything! Most classes I entered were something I had done before, with one exception: ITLA Princess. The group I travelled with encouraged me to enter, so I did. I did not, however, expect to be crowned and given such an incredible experience. I do not own my own herd, I haven’t been working with Longhorns for very long, and it was my first year at ITLA. I assumed that there was no way that I could compare with any of the other contestants, but nonetheless, I am ever grateful to ITLA and all of my supporters.
Throughout the course of these next few years, I plan on delving more deeply into the world of Longhorns, agriculture and cattle companies. I plan on dedicating a significant portion of my time to Longhorns, showmanship, and research. It is my goal to someday own my own herd of Longhorns and continue to be an active member of the ITLA community.
2025 ITLA Little Miss Evelyn Miner
Hello, my name is Evelyn Miner and I’m excited to serve as your Miss ITLA Little Miss for the upcoming year. First let me tell you a little bit about myself, in my spare time I like to sing and show longhorns. I live in south-central Pennsylvania with my family and we are a part the Northeast Texas Longhorn Association. I am really thankful for the support of my family and local affiliate who helped me become Little Miss, I wouldn’t be able to do it without them In November, NETLA had their annual banquet and John and Suzanne Moxley were our hosts. I was able to help Rebecca Scott run the kids table and all the kids had fun making chocolate covered pretzels and sugar scrub. The food was delicious and the live auction went well. I helped with the live auction and helped hand out awards. Overall, we had a great time of fellowship with our local affiliate.

Ingredients
CHRISTMAS DINNER BEEF TENDERLOIN ROAST
3 pounds beef tenderloin roast
2 1/4 teaspoons salt, divided
1 teaspoon black pepper, divided
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoons olive oil
Variation: Adding Potatoes
3 pounds baby red potatoes
5 large scallions, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon smoked paprika, use sweet or hot or a combination of both
1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
½ to ¾ cups water
1 tablespoon Aleppo pepper, optional; for added smoke, heat, and sweetness
Instructions
Rinse and pat the beef dry. Remove any silver skin if necessary. Combine 2 1/4 teaspoons Kosher salt, 1 teaspoon black pepper, and the baking soda and stir together Liberally coat the roast all over including the ends with the seasoning
Using 10" lengths of kitchen twine, begin tying off the roast directly in the center. Tie every 1 1/2" inches working your way outward from center to end to end. If an end is very thin, bend it back and tuck it alongside the roast, securing with the twine. You want the overall look of the roast to be equal from end to end, and the twine will aid in the even cooking. Snip off any long pieces of twine after tying and discard. Allow roast to sit at room temperature for at least one hour for the salt to equitably draw, then redistribute moisture throughout the roast
Preheat oven to 425°F. Place a meat rack into the roasting pan. Brush the roast with a tablespoon of olive oil and place the roast directly on top of the rack. No part of the roast should be touching the roasting pan. Load the roasting pan into the fully preheated oven and set the timer for 5 minutes. When 5 minutes is up, lower temperature to 300°F.
Roast the beef until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center shows 125°F for rare, then remove it from the oven For additional doneness, keep cooking, checking every 6 minutes until it reaches your desired temperature. Once done, remove the beef, double wrap it in foil, and let it rest for 20 minutes to reach its "rest to" temperature, ensuring juices redistribute. This crucial step ensures perfect tenderness. After resting, remove the twine, slice in 1/2" slices and arrange on a pretty platter. Serve with this Creamy au Jus using the beef drippings, or my Whipped Horseradish Cream if desired. NOTE: Do not open the oven door during the roast all but for turning the roasting pan halfway through cooking to promote even doneness
Variation: Adding Potatoes
In a roasting pan over a stove top burner, bloom the aromatics by first heating 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium high heat. Add the scallions, garlic, smoked paprika, Aleppo pepper (if using), and 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Stir until fragrant
Add the potatoes whole and cook, stirring, for about 2 minutes. As fond begins to build up on the bottom of the roasting pan, turn off the heat and add the water into the roasting pan, scraping the bits of fond to loosen. Place the potato mixture into the oven for 15 minutes uncovered.
Remove the potatoes from the oven Reduce heat to 300°F Stir and gather the potatoes into the middle of the roasting pan. Brush the beef with a tablespoon of olive oil and place the roast directly on top of the potatoes. No part of the roast should be touching the roasting pan.

While many of us fondly recall the days when a person’s word was their bond and a handshake was an iron-clad agreement, in modern society oaths are increasingly important The President of the United States must take an oath before starting a new term of office. Contracts often require verification before a notary. And in my other line of work, a court reporter swears-in each witness before I depose or cross-examine them. Oaths bind us to our word; and written oaths allow others to reference back to our promises made and hold us to them. At the fine suggestion of Darol Dickinson, it was decided by President Freeman that our new and current International Board of Directors should take an oath of office as a pledge to each other and our membership to uphold those ideals to which we were each elected For those Board members who were able to attend the Annual Meeting in October, the oath was orally taken upon being read by Stan Searle and was then signed in the presence of all. Our newest two members (Guy Cote and Gary Lake) have subsequently added their own signatures to the Oath. Collectively, the Board wanted to publish that oath here, as a declaration of our commitment to you: the ITLA member. Hold us to it.
