President Welcome to the Convention and Championship Show wrap up issue of the Longhorn Drover Magazine. Not only did the ITLA set a record on entries and fill up the facility with attendees, we initiated many firsts including the International Miniature Longhorn Show, the International Photo Contest, an ITLA Queen Fashion Show, a live radio broadcast from the event, etc. If you missed our big event, these pages are full of the good times we had. Hopefully you will make plans to attend next year as we celebrate the ITLA’s 30th anniversary. If you did attend, thank you for coming. I hope these pages remind you of the fun, fellowship, and special time that was spent with Texas Longhorns. Thank you to those that assisted in producing the ITLA’s signature event. Producing a record breaking show of this size by a few volunteers and staff Cori is a testimony to the dedication and genuine caring for the ITLA. Your ITLA Board of Directors will be meeting in mid November. The December Longhorn Drover will provide details on the plans for the upcoming year. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving! 2019 - 2020 Miss ITLA Queen Contest
The 2019-2020 Miss ITLA Queen contest was a huge success in so many ways. These wonderful young ladies that competed together side-by-side speaks volumes of the type of youth program the ITLA prides itself on. They where literally side-by-side cheering each other on during the entire competition and when the winners were announced they cheered loudly for the newly selected Queen and Princess. The Miss ITLA Queen contest is more than a beauty pageant, it is about being a young woman that leads by example, representing the association to the best of her abilities with grace, strength, dignity, and integrtity, as well as being caring and kind towards others and knowing when each of those attributes are appropriate. Circle E Western Store in Sulphur Springs, Texas, were generous enough to let the contestant go shopping for outfits to borrow for the fashion show at the Saturday night banquet.
The contest was coordinated very well by Heatherly Smith, and it had a panel of three judges. The contestants were scored on how well they carried themselves and responded to a multitude of questions during the interview process. Each young lady brought their own unique personalities, strengths, and talents to the table which made the judges decisions even more difficult. From left to right in the photo, here are the 2019-2020 contestants. * Kyndall Keaton - Mansfield, Texas * Jade Wiggins - Honey Brook, Pennsylvania * Kassidy Schwarz - Weatherford, Texas * Adalyn Hamilton - Weatherford, Texas * Evelyn Sabio - Boyd, Texas * Allison Lowrie - Rhome, Texas Adalyn Hamilton was selected as the 2019-2020 Miss ITLA Queen, and Jade Wiggins was selected as the 2019-2020 Miss ITLA Princess. As the ITLA Youth Director, I can’t even put in to words how proud I am of each of these young ladies for “going for it” and letting their light shine through their words, behavior, actions, and beautiful smiles. It was such a wonderful experince, and if these ITLA youth members are any indication as to the type of young adults we are raising in our Texas Longhorn family, then I would say that the future is looking extremely bright. In order to enhance the education of people on the importance of the Texas Longhorn, ITLA offers Judges Clinics, seminars at the National Convention, and monthly articles in the Longhorn Drover magazine.
ITLA is also working to grow its youth programs, and emphasize the importance of sportsmanship, fun, and family.
The ITLA operates with a functional board of 12 members plus the President, Vice President. Secretary and Treasure. Each year, all ITLA members vote in the annual elections to select members to fill these positions by sending a ballot in the mail, During the annual elections, all members also vote on major issues concerning the association, ensuring everyone has a voice and is heard.
ITLA Registration Certificates offer the option to include an O.C.V. number, birth weight, and even a photograph of the animal. ITLA has affiliates active all across the globe. They host sales, shows, and countless other events.

Youth News Texas Longhorns in HOCKEY ? ITLA Youth member, Kaleb Morris, and his steer Festus are making Texas Longhorns very popular in Montana. Festus has been asked to be the official mascot of the Billings Bulls Amateur Hockey Team. Although Festus is a steer and the team is called the bulls, he’s quite happy to represent them while showing off his ever growing horns and sweet personality.

They came from afar ....... By: Cori Garcia Anyone in the ITLA knows what fall means. It’s Championship Show & Convention time where we all gather to compete in the show ring, laugh, fellowship, and make great memories together. The ITLA is represented in a multitude of countries and we were honored to host several international visitors this year. There were two couples in particular that spent the entire week with us at the Championship Show & Convention held in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Wesley & Hayley Offord accompanied by Gordon & Desley Davidson, both couples are from Queensland Australia area. Wesley had been invited to evaluate cattle in the ITLA Championship Futurity and he gladly accepted. He is a 5th generation cattle grazier (rancher) with his wife Hayley and their 5 children. He has been breeding cattle all of his life and originally bred Red Brahmans, crossing them with Red Angus. Upon finishing secondary schooling, he attended Emerald Pastoral College and specialized in Beef Production. Texas Longhorns in their area were relatively unknown and they were not easy to come by, but in 2015 they purchased their first full blood Texas Longhorn bull and started crossing him with Brahman and Brangus females. However they quickly became addicted to Texas Longhorns so they joined Texas Longhorns Australia and the ITLA. They sold their entire commercial herd and replaced it with registered Texas Longhorns. Gordon & Desley have been Lifetime ITLA members since 2010 and Wesley & Hayley have been active ITLA members since 2017. Both couples were able to visit several states and many Texas Longhorn producers while in the United States recently. We were honored to have them with us for the Championship Show and hope they share with their mates back home all they learned and saw while here in the States with their new American mates.

New Award For The Alberta Texas Longhorn Association Jo-Ann Miller ( on the right in photo below ) pre-

2019 Youth Sponsorship Contest Winner Kassidy Schwarz from Weatherford, Texas was the winner of the Youth Sponsorship Sales Contest. Kassidy helped raise $2,000 in sponsorship money for the 2019 ITLA Championship Show & Convention. JayCee Parsons, a former youth exhibitor and current ITLA member, donated a heifer calf from her breeding program at Whiskey River Cattle Company to the winner. JayCee said she wanted to give back to the youth program that gave so much to her when she was a youth member. Kassidy is very grateful for receiving WR Sweet Revenge “aka Revi� and has already started bonding with her as well as sending JayCee updates. Congratulations Kassidy and thank you JayCee.

2019 International Photo Show The ITLA held it’s first ever, International Photo Contest at the 2019 Championship Show & Convention. This contest was created to give our multitude of members that live outside of the United States an opportunity to showcase their animals and participoate as exhibitors along with the rest of the ITLA members that compete in the annual champiosnhip event. We had a great number of our International members send in entries for this event. I know the judge had a hard time placing these beautiful Texas Longhorns in their classes as well as selecting the Over All Grand Champions. Thank you to everyone that entered, and we look forward to another successful International Photo Show in 2020.
