2023 ELECTIONS ITLA Members, Congratulations to the ITLA Staff, Board and Members for coming together for the 2023 Championship show in Duncan, Oklahoma. If you missed it, you missed a great time and an opportunity to see some top cattle in the industry. We had members from most of the lower forty-eight states, Canada and even had a Longhorn breeder from Austria. Joel Dickinson and his heifer sale committee put an outstanding group of donation heifers together for the Elite Sale. Together with the P & C chute they raised over $24,000. Thanks to everyone who participated in making this event a success. Mike Metcalf gathered over 20 industry leading bulls for the semen raffle. From the results I personally dominated this contest, the trick was to put a ticket in each drawing tank, thus increasing your odds of winning. Who knew! At the 2023 annual ITLA convention and members meeting, we reviewed the associations business over the last year and the members unanimously approved two by-law changes. The first being that the immediate past president will hold a board position to help bring some continuity to the direction of the association. Secondly Canada was given its own region similar to the way it was back when ITLA started. Everyone should have gotten the letter Ballet in the mail and should have got it mailed back in by the time this is posted in the November issue. We welcome Brett Kott and Micha Hamersky to the board. Mr. Kott is the representative for the newly established Canada region and Mr. Hamersky was newly elected as the international representative. I look forward to working with them this coming year. One of the exciting ways that several breeders are making money with their Longhorn cattle and still enjoying them back at the ranch is by finding futurities to enter that pay out a high percentage of their entries. At the ITLA futurity, which has an above average payout, a top contender received a check for over $5,000 for their entry’s winnings. That’s some serious funding. There are over 25 futurities already scheduled for the 2024 season. Find a few near your ranch, check out how many placing they pay, and what percentage they are going to pay out, then pick out your best cattle and send in the application. Washing and clipping the cattle is not required for participation. Hope to see you at several of these this coming year. Thanks for all the Members who put so much effort into the ITLA, Your President,

MEET THE NEW VICE PRESIDENT Howdy! If you do not know me well, I am a practicing attorney but helped fund my education through cattle production—something my family has been involved with in Texas for generations. Together with my wife and three daughters, we operate the Gang of 5 Longhorns. In his work entitled Conagher (both a book and movie—my personal favorite), Louis L’Amour penned Conn Conagher to affirm: “I take a man’s money Mr. Tay, I ride for the brand.” Serving on the ITLA Board is a voluntary service; but when wearing the title “Vice President” I absolutely ride for the ITLA brand. President Freeman, immediate past President Smith, and the rest of your ITLA Board all have great things planned for this coming year; but we’d like to hear from you. I can nearly always be reached at my direct dial office number (972) 937-7273, but here is my cell number as well: (214) 287-2303. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for positive change, give me a call and let’s talk. If you don’t know, it is winter wheat and oat planting time in Texas; and my daughters and I just put the finishing, harrowing touches on our anticipated winter oat crop. Today, the Good Lord blessed us with about an inch of rain—so His timing, as always, was perfect. It is always exciting to see a crop grow, and even better to watch pretty cattle grazing on green growth during cold, winter months. You know, as Texas Longhorn producers we of all people are abundantly blessed. Day in and day out, whether as our primary occupation or just one that we squeeze in at every spare hour, we get to work with one of God’s most majestic creations. Sometimes when a calf gets sick, a horn tip gets broken, the tractor breaks down, drought sets in, or through any other number of challenges, it’s hard to keep things in the proper perspective. But I encourage you, this month, to consider this: through it all, we get to work with Longhorns when others do not and many simply cannot. That makes us a privileged few who have a whole lot to be thankful for. I look forward to working with you and for you this year. May God bless you, your Gang, and your cattle:

AGENDA 21

The Epoch Times

AGENDA 21

As ranchers work to raise their livestock, bale hay and keep the pickups running in the dark of government cubicles a more sinister attack is planned to cause far more costly damage to ranchers and the land. This is the Agenda 21 global plan to take private property--land that is in profitable production, and make it fallow, or of non-use to private or public profit. By confiscation it is planned, by the heavy-hand of governments, to have total government control on 30% of the USA range land by 2030. Later the next step is the 2050 plan. Please view this EPOCH TV interview with rancher Loren Patterson of New Mexico with his informed experience working to defend ranchers from their governments.

Update From ITLA Headquarters Glen Rose, Texas

Howdy from Glen Rose! Many of you already know me from the ITLA Championship Show! And many others have probably seen me around at shows in the past. I have been raising and showing longhorns for 20 years! I love this industry and the longhorn family I have made along the way. I am so happy to be working in the ITLA office and getting to talk longhorns every day. A little about me- My parents let me start showing longhorns for other people to see if I would like it before they spent all the money to get into it. I showed for a few people and absolutely fell in love with it. I bought my first heifer from Raelynn Stephens in 2003. I was 12 years old! Raelynn taught me how to show and has really been a mentor for me over the years. My mom, 2 younger brothers, and I continued to show for the past 20 years! I have a wonderful husband, Sam, and we have 2 beautiful kids, Ellie (almost 3) and Ash (1 ½) who love the cows!! I am happy this is still a family business and we all have a part in this herd we created! I was so honored to help with the 2023 ITLA Championship Show! We had a great time and hope everyone else did too! We are already gearing up and making plans for next year, so stay tuned for more details on that! I would like to give a huge thank you to Russell Freeman, Larry Smith, and Brad Westmoreland for everything they have done to help us here at the office and with the Championship Show! All 3 of them were a tremendous help getting the show together! Craig and I have been working diligently to get registrations and transfers done quickly. As breeders, we understand needing things done in a timely manner is important and we are here to make that happen! We strive to continue to make ITLA better and better and are working on several new ideas for 2024! If you have any ideas, questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or Craig! We are here to help! -Pam Kinsel Hughes D R O V E R

Agenda 21, COOL, mRNA, and the Federal 3030 programs are all designed against food profits in the USA. This is part of the "War on Food" sabotaging the American ag business. WEs & AMANDA EVANS

MEET YOUR ITLA YOUTH DIRECTORS Thank you for the opportunity to introduce ourselves to those we have not met yet. We are Wesley and Amanda Evans from Baird, Texas. Many know us as Sharpshooter Livestock which we started in 2019. Our focus is registered Texas longhorns, but we also have mini-Herefords, commercial beef cattle, LaMancha dairy goats and various foul including chickens, turkey and our newest additions – peacocks (Amanda had to have). Farming/Ranching has not been a way of life for us until the last several years. Wes was raised in Iraan, Texas and participated in 4-H and FFA during his school years. Following school he attended the Odessa College Law Enforcement Academy, in Odessa, Texas. He spent more than ten years serving as a deputy where he was a certified K-9 handler focusing on interdiction in a southwest border county in Texas and the Panhandle of Texas where they say the only thing that separates Texas from the North Pole is a barbed wire fence. Following his law enforcement career, he entered the West Texas oil patch where he currently operates as a Certified Health and Safety Official for pipeline operations in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. In his spare time Wes referees’ West Texas football from pee-wee up to Varsity. Amanda grew up in Midland, and unlike Wes, was devoted to ballet and tennis. She had the opportunity to travel and study across the United States including Texas, Mississippi, Connecticut and New Mexico. Following school, she too attended the Capital Area Planning Council Regional Police Academy, in Austin, Texas. Amanda also served more than ten years in law enforcement where her focus was juvenile crimes, crimes against women and children and Sexual Assault cases. She and Wes had the opportunity to work together in the Panhandle on many cases. Following her law enforcement career, she too entered the West Texas oil patch but in the chemical business. In 2021, Amanda graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor’s in Behavior Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Legal Studies from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.

Amanda now serves as the Permian Basin New Mexico Delaware Area Manager based out of Hobbs, New Mexico. In Amanda’s spare time, she catches snuggles with their two bulldogs, some of you have met at the shows, Bella and Bentley. Now that you have a little background on us, let’s talk about the fun stuff! Longhorns!! We started our registered Texas longhorn herd in 2019 when we purchased 4 commercial Longhorn cross heifers and needed a herd sire. We purchased Shadow’s Hitman SS a Drag Iron son, our first ever registered Longhorn. And, just like potato chips, you can’t have just one! We began purchasing more registered Longhorns. Finally, in 2020 we were introduced to the ITLA show circuit when we purchased our first show bull, Sugar Daddy DSM from Kellie Robinson. We met Kellie and her family at the CTTLA show in Decatur, and Kellie said “here you go” and sent Wes and Sugar into the ring! We met a lot of great folks at our first show, the CTTLA Spring Fling and were immediately addicted to showing. We love for the youth to show our longhorns at any show we attend and enjoy even more watching their faces when they win. The youth keep all their winnings, and we keep the pictures and memories. Coaching them when they don’t win is very important to us. In October of 2022, Wesley threw his name in the hat to be the ITLA Youth Director and was selected. It was a learning experience the first year. 2023 Youth Championship Show was successful amid the bumps throughout the year. The youth committee even introduced a new award, The Judge’s Choice Showmanship Award. We are excited about the new youth committee members, and ideas that they bring to the table. Most importantly, we are looking forward to growing the ITLA Youth and having a memorable year for 2024 and beyond.

Camilla Westmoreland 2024 ITLA Queen Howdy ya’ll! My name is Camilla Westmoreland, and I am your 2023-2024 ITLA Queen. I am a sixth-generation cattle rancher, and I am 1 of 5 in the Gang of 5 Longhorns crew. I am a senior at Tarleton State University which is nestled in Erath County, Texas, and I am majoring in business with the goals of expanding our longhorn program’s business operations and founding a western mercantile alongside my family. I am a member of the ITLA, trained in Artificial Insemination, and I am a certified private pesticide applicator which helps out with the daily operations of the business. For me, there is no futuristic ideal of “the dream” because I am already living it: every single day I get to interact with the people, cattle, and land that I love which all draw me even closer to my Creator as I witness firsthand His marvelous workmanship. I am so excited to have the blessing of getting to meet with and learn from so many incredible folks such as yourself! I can’t wait to hear your stories and share in your triumphs. My goals as your newest ITLA Queen are to represent the next generation of Texas Longhorn ranchers and to be a single glimmer of light which hints at just how bright the future of this industry is, while simultaneously soaking up all of the downright incredible knowledge that this industry and its pioneers have to offer. There are three titles I wear proudly: Christian, Gang of 5 Longhorns, and now ITLA Queen. Ultimately my goal is to radiate the love of God in all that I do and I will work at this with all of my heart as I do everything else as Colossians 3:23 says. Thank you sincerely for this opportunity-I do not take it lightly.

A Few Thoughts and Perspectives This past month I had the immense honor of attending the 2023 ITLA Convention and Championship Show. The published event schedule claims that this annual event lasted three days but I feel as though I blinked, watched one stunning heifer swagger around the showring, and shook one friendly, calloused hand and it was all over… while I was overjoyed to be back in Texas, I realized that I had failed to see the herd for the horn so to speak…I realized that I had been so wrapped up in each scheduled event and meeting that I failed to truly grasp how magnificent this convention was until after I returned to my family’s own ranch and cattle. Without belaboring the point, I want to share a few thoughts on what stood out to me about the 2023 convention and champ show and offer an invitation to a fresh perspective at the conclusion. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get so busy and focused on my own longhorns and the endless tasks that go along with their program, that I begin to feel as though my family and I are the only ones who care anymore…the only folks who have any appreciation for the majesty of the longhorn and the hard lifestyle that goes along with it-the cityscapes and shopping malls begin to encroach on my confidence in the future of ranching. Upon walking into the Stephens Expo Center however, as the sun slowly woke up behind me, all of my fears and loneliness were put to rest as the smell of manure and molasses-saturated feed wafted into my senses. The convention reminded me that the longhorn industry and ranchers as a whole are not only alive and well, but stronger and more determined than ever. The cattle were beautiful, and the showmanship nearly took my breath away, but what really made this event so worthwhile was the true love and respect that everyone showed for each other. There is no group of people more united and passionate than the longhorn family. Tears were shed, exultations of glory were heard, and smiles never ceased to shine on the faces of all present. People from all over the world journeyed to Oklahoma in the name of one thing: the Texas Longhorn. There is always hope as long as the people who appreciate the horn are present. The perspective I want to offer is simple: Psalm 50:10 teaches that all cattle are the Lord’s. So, as we all go back to our own ranches and herds, I encourage us all to remember that we each have a united duty to better the breed and care for our herds each day no matter how tough the work gets because each heifer, cow, calf, steer, and bull that we care for is an opportunity to glorify God and serve one another. Meet Kenley Hello! My name is Kenley Huskey, and I am your newly elected Miss 2024 ITLA Princess. I am so excited to represent the ITLA this year! I would like to share with you a few things about myself. I am twelve years old and am a 7th grade student at Westville Junior High School. In addition to showing longhorns, I enjoy playing volleyball, running track, and cheering for our junior high and junior varsity football and basketball teams. I also love to tumble. I showed my first longhorn in the summer of 2022 and fell in love with it. I have made so many new friends and always look forward to the shows. My two favorite longhorns are my steer, Outlaw and my heifer, Lady. I also have two dogs, Sadie, and Okie Lee. I live at home in Westville, Oklahoma with my mom, dad, older sister, and younger brother. I am looking forward to representing the ITLA in 2024!

Baylor Marti 2024 ITLA Little Miss Hi! I’m Baylor, and I am 8 years old. I am from Amarillo, Texas. I have so much fun with longhorns! I got my first one for my birthday in 2020, and we started Little hb Cattle Co. shortly after. The h is for my little sister Hayden and b for me. We have grown a herd since then and also created Bomb City Cattle Co. with our friend Michael Rolen. Bomb City is a nickname for Amarillo. I love going to sales and futurities and want to go to as many as I can. I just began halter showing by myself this year and have enjoyed the experience and learn something new every time. I am very excited to be ITLA Little Miss. I have met a lot of awesome people and can’t wait to meet more and share my love of longhorns.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING We had a great time at the ITLA Championship Show. Thanks to Heatherly for all she does for the Queen Court contest and thank you to the judges for their time. Thanks to the previous Queen and Little Miss for their support and congrats to the new Queen and Princess! We have traveled a lot in the last few months for events and plan to stay home for a little bit. We have a group of weaned calves at our house, and I have been enjoying hanging out with them and beginning to get them tamed down. I also ride horses and just had a playday. I got third in the costume contest with my horse Boogie as an excavator. I can’t wait to share more next issue.

For Such A Time As This Hey Y’all! It’s Rachael Martin your 2023 ITLA Queen. I was asked by Heatherly Smith if I would like to write a little something when she found out about my new position for 2024 and I said, “heck yeah!” This past year through all the opportunities provided by representing for the ITLA, I have fallen in love with public speaking and representing agriculture & the western way of life. In Duncan, Oklahoma at the Championship Show I was able to pass this special title to the wonderful new 2024 ITLA Queen, Camilla Westmoreland. You guys could not be in better hands! I’m so excited to personally see where she takes representation this upcoming year! No longer having this position, I was able to run for another amazing title and blessed to recently become the 2024 Teen Miss Rodeo North Carolina! My platform for this upcoming year is “...for such a time as this.” Esther 4:14. To me this is about how every person has a purpose given to them by God to do good and make a difference right in the place where they are. It doesn’t matter how small you may feel in this big world, there is still a difference to be made. Whether it is a small task of being kind to your mom, or smiling at a stranger, it still makes a difference. Our world today struggles with the pandemic of judgement just like the Jews did in the Bible towards each other and the gentiles. This judgement gets in the way of us forming new relationships, spreading kindness, and sharing the inner light that we each have. Most of the time we don’t even realize that we are struggling with this until we have hurt ourselves and others. The devil wants to hold us back from spreading all the essential things that Jesus wants us to help flourish; kind words, patience, friendship, community, wisdom, etc. I wanted a platform that enables people to let go of judgement and insecurity and value the good of who they truly are while embracing the season they are in. God has placed each one of us in the season we are in for a reason. He does not make mistakes. Instead of wishing for other seasons we should embrace the one we are in and make the best of it. This is what God calls us to do. If you know the Lord and Savior, then you are no longer just a person, you are a warrior. God has given you all the tools and weapons you need to fight against challenges the devil throws at us.

Today, depression is a huge thing we battle. I wanted my platform to encourage people to fight past feeling worthless in the place they are in and find their purpose in the moments God provides them daily. By opening our eyes to all the blessings and opportunities that can be effective in our lives, we fight against the struggles of today’s world (depression, boredom, or feeling worthless.) It’s time to stop dwelling on feeling stuck and break the chains that the devil has us bound up in. Start by letting your inner light shine in its own unique way and embracing the place you are in. Remember helping others is helping yourself. When you stop looking at the negative and start looking for ways to grow and change for the better, you can change not only your outlook but also the outlook of those around you. We are all leaders in our own way, but it is up to us to figure out if we are going to embrace this leadership. How are you going to lead? Use the opportunities you have in the season you're in right now to spread kindness, help others grow, and shine their inner light. My platform is a challenge to share with others the love God has for us and fully embrace the right here and right now. Lead others in positivity and kindness. Lead others to Him. This starts by simply representing Him through our actions and being thankful for the time He has placed us in because we were created for such a time as this! I can’t wait to start my new position and fully launch my platform this upcoming year! Looking forward to seeing everyone at the shows in 2024. ITLA fam, thank you for all your support and enabling me to become the outgoing public speaker that I am. I will never forget the wonderful experiences I had representing this special organization. Thank Y’all and remember, always let your light shine and represent your maker to the best of your ability! See you soon! Esther 4:14 KJV “For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” God Bless, Rachael V. Martin

ON THE RANCH

By Camilla Westmoreland

How often do you pick up a bale (or 50!) from your local feed store without even giving that hay a second thought? I love me some convenient Tractor Supply Co. costal bales in a pinch, but there is nothing more satisfying than planning, preparing, and harvesting your own crops. The beauty in this is that you get to control what types of grasses and thus nutrient profiles you are feeding to your cattle and you are able to experience the eons long beauty of farming. These past two months my gang and I have been deep in preparing some pastures for winter grazing so that our cattle can stay well fed and healthy without the need to continue feeding bales all winter long. We have been plowing, planting, harrowing, and fencing to ensure the best oat crop possible for our herd. The Lord blessed us with over 10 inches of rain the very day after we got the oats planted and they dutifully sprouted soon after. Just as each of your longhorns has been raised and nurtured and has many stories, the crops that we feed our cows are a labor of love. I believe the more dirt and plants we can play in and grow, the closer we get to the image God designed for us to bear.
