Setting Records:
The ITLA’s big event is just a few days away with an emphasis on BIG. Even though we are competing with two additional Longhorn events the same weekend, entries now sit at over 550. Many records will be set as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ITLA. The NonHaltered Showing of Longhorns has increased 100% over last year and will be the largest in ITLA history. The Championship Futurity has the greatest number of entries since inception. The largest number of youth ever will compete in the arena on Saturday. I have no doubt that additional records will be shattered. It was risky booking the facility and ordering over 200 commemorative 30th anniversary buckles, during this unprecedented year of closings, but the risk is paying off in record style. The ITLA message is being heard loud and clear. The industries best pricing and fastest turnaround in member services is appreciated, the same outside financial service for the last 14 years has kept the ITLA finances in detailed order and gets a thumbs up when reviewed by CPA’s, and the ITLA still remains the only association in Longhorn history to own its Headquarters. The Texas Agriculture Commissioner recognizes the significance that the ITLA plays in the agricultural world and will be joining us on Saturday to celebrate the ITLA’s 30th Anniversary. It is not too late to contact the ITLA Office to enter, participate in shattering records, and celebrate 30 years of the ITLA.

Championship Longhorn Futurity Judges The ITLA Championship Longhorn Futurity will be held in conjunction with the Championship Show & Convention Oct 7th -10th, 2020 in Glen Rose, Texas
Russell Freeman is a Colorado businessman, rancher, and breeder of Longhorn cattle and Quarter Horses. He is a Colorado native and grew up with horses and cattle. He was drawn to the excitement and value of Longhorn cattle, and he and his wife Jamie bought their first Longhorn cow in 2015. Since that time, Russell has produced a solid herd built on proven genetics. Russell is actively putting together a set of foundation females that he hopes will make a significant impact on the Longhorn industry in a few years. He is a big supporter of rural education, the National Western Stock Show, the Ride for the Brand Ranch Rodeo, Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, and the Colorado Range Riders. Ride for the Brand herds Russell’s Longhorns through downtown Colorado Springs every year, and he recently hosted a TLBAA Horn Showcase satellite measurement, where 11 bronzes were awarded.
Connie Ollive was raised in the North Central area of Texas and has been involved with horses and cattle all her life. She and her husband, Bruce, moved to Alberta, Canada where they worked on his family’s ranch and trained horses for ten years. After that time, they returned to Texas with their four children where they continued to break and train horses. It was during that time that Connie studied to become a registered nurse. As a nurse she has worked in several departments: obstetrics, labor and delivery, nursery, and emergency care. She is presently working as a clinical instructor for the Vocational Nursing Education program at Tyler. Junior College. It was 1995 when Connie and Bruce became involved with longhorn cattle. Bruce took a job working for Mickey Wood of Wildwood Ranch in Lindale, TX. Soon after, they purchased eight Longhorn cows of their own from local breeder Roberta Gard. They became even more involved with longhorns when Bruce became ranch manager of Bolen Longhorns. During those years they were able to breed and improve their small longhorn herd and attend longhorn activities around the country. They also became part of a small group of breeders to organize and promote the original Winchester Longhorn Heifer Futurity. From the start, Connie and Bruce have maintained a small purebred herd of longhorn cattle and felt fortunate to have accomplished so much with them throughout the years. Connie enjoys meeting and “talking cattle” with Longhorn People from around the world. But she especially enjoys showing Longhorn Cattle with several of her twelve grandchildren and traveling to shows and futurities with some of her friends.
Lizz Huntzberry is a Lifetime member of the ITLA and is currently serving as Region 2 Direcor. She has also served multiple terms on the ITLA Board. Lizz is past President of the Northeast Texas Longhorn Association and currently serves on their board of directors. She has been raising and showing Texas Longhorns since 1985. Lizz has 3 children: Lane, Cole, and Cassidy, all who have been very active showing cattle all over the country. She has been a judge and evaluating cattle since 1998 and has judged many shows all over the United States, as well as multiple ITLA conventions.
Dr. June Cohron was born and raised in Stuarts Draft, Virginia and is the fourth generation of her family to live and produce agricultural products at Rosemont Manor. Dr. Cohron graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1988 with a degree in biology and received her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1991 from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She established the Animal Hospital of Stuarts Draft, Inc. in 1995 and practices small animal medicine and surgery on a full-time basis. The Cohron family has raised registered Angus cattle at Rosemont Manor since 1956 and June grew up showing Angus cattle, market steers, and Suffolk sheep in 4-H. She was a member of the county Livestock Judging and Junior Stockman’s teams for 4 years and was named a Virginia 4-H All Star in 1985. In 1992 June and her father Larry purchased their first registered Texas Longhorn cattle – some Yates based cattle from Victoria, Texas. She joined the ITLA and the Northeast Texas Longhorn Association in 1995 and started exhibiting cattle at local and regional shows and then at ITLA Championship Shows. At present June and Larry have 25 Texas Longhorns, 20 Angus-based commercial cattle, and 3 BueLingo cow/calf pairs. They use artificial insemination regularly to select for large framed, long horned cattle that grow and perform well. In addition to selling breeding animals and 4-H club calves they also sell Texas Longhorn beef and Berkshire pork at the regional farmer’s market. June has been an ITLA judge since 2002. In addition to breeding and showing cattle she also breeds and shows Sealyham terriers and wirehaired Dachshunds and has been privileged to exhibit at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show 6 times. When she isn’t working at the clinic or on the farm, she enjoys participating in dog agility competitions and singing in the church choir. Joe Dowling has over 25 years in the registered longhorn cattle industry and has focused most of his career on hauling cattle, breeding to some of the most elite bulls in the longhorn cattle business and promoting the longhorn cattle lean beef program. Dowling enjoys meeting new breeders as well as long-time breeders to the longhorn cattle industry. Dowling serves on the board as Region 9 director of the International Texas Longhorn Association (ITLA). He owns KD Bar Cattle Company, an essential business, where he sells longhorn lean grass-fed beef to the public, Eatology (a paleo meal company), Village Foods (a health food store) and farmers markets across three counties (Brazos, Burleson and Harris). In his early years, Dowling competed in the livestock judging team and won first place in the State of Texas his senior year. Dowling established Elite Bulls breeding services in 2015, providing breeding services to some of the most elite bulls in the Texas longhorn cattle industry. Dowling is also an AI certified technician. In addition to the cattle business, for 25 years he has raised Catahoula cow dogs and competed, judged and organized certified cow dog trials across the state. Dowling and his wife, Toni, live near Caldwell, Texas where they enjoy raising longhorn cattle and spending time with their family, especially their granddaughters, Adeline and Audrey.

ITLA History
Est. 1990
As the ITLA prepares to celebrate 30 years of successful membership services, and continued contributions to the Texas Longhorn industry, let us not forget how and where the ITLA began. Memberships have more than quadrupled, ITLA events are popping up all over the Country, and the Association has active members in muliple countries around the globe. Here is a little bit of history taken from the ITLA website at www.itla.com ... The First meeting held to discuss starting a new Longhorn Association was held in October of 1989 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. An Organizational Meeting was held in Dallas/ Fort Worth January 12th, 1990. On March 9th, 1990 There was an organizational workshop held in Austin, Texas where ITLA was actually formed. The Steering committee consisted of Jerry Williams. Bill Anthony, Happy Shahan, Stan Searle, and Pay Holt. Committees Were formed with Pat Holt in charge of By-Laws; Jerry Williams, membership; Stan Searle, promotion and advertising; Bill Anthony, registrations and transfers; and Carroll Shores, show systems. The first headquarters was set up in Jerry Williams’ office in Austin, Texas. Jerry Williams was the first President, Executive Director, Registrar and whatever else came with the job. He did this with no cost to the Association. The first cow register was Measles Supreme, breeder and owner Frank Doherty. The first bull registered was Pring, breeder Dickinson Cattle Company, owner Paul Babington. The first Convention and Show was held in Austin, TX October 25th, 1990. Bill Anthony was the first elected President; Jerry Williams, Vice President; Stan Searle, Treasurer. At the time of the convention, ITLA has 413 members, 99 of them were lifetime. By the end of the year, the membership had reached 500. Bill Anthony was President the year of 1991. * NETLA was the first Affiliate- Jim Hutchinson was President. Cascade TLA was the 2nd and by April of 1991, ITLA had seven Affiliates. * The first ITLA sale was held in Houston, Texas April 4th, 1992. * The first A.I. certified bull was Zhivago owned by Dickinson Cattle Company. * The first judging clinic was held at Wildwood Ranch in Lindale, TX in 1997.

Attended 3 ITLA judging clinics and was a presenter for the worldwide ITLA webinar, also an ITLA approved and certified judge. Major Beef Cattle Show Judging Assignments: Denver National Western (2), State Fair of Texas (2), Oregon State Fair (2), Austin Star of Texas (2), Washington State Fair, New Mexico State Fair (2), Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (2), San Antonio Livestock Show (2), West Texas Livestock Show, Fort Worth Stock Show (2), North Montgomery County Fair (2), Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo (2), San Angelo Stock Show, Louisiana State Fair, Nebraska State Fair, Keystone International Livestock Expo, York PA Fair, HOTLLA Hamilton Show, Colorado State Fair, ITLA Championship Shows (3), World Show (3) Texas Longhorn divisions. Born and raised in Iowa on a beef and dairy farm and have been involved with the cattle industry all my life. Dr. Gene and I began raising Texas Longhorns in 1994. I always count it a privilege and honor when I am asked to evaluate Texas Longhorns in the show ring or in someone’s pasture. I always look for the traits that make up the “complete package” animal that will ensure its success in reproduction for the Texas Longhorn industry. These cattle are a unique beef breed with added value in their horns, color, and longevity. I want an individual to be structurally correct and balanced from front to back with the ability to move freely.
Championship Show Non-Halter Judge - Mike Tomey Thank you for the opportunity to be your judge at the 30th Anniversary ITLA Championship Show. Jamie & I have 6 children, 4 grandchildren and live in Bedford, IN. We raise registered Texas longhorns and corn, soybeans, and wheat. We have been raising longhorns for 29 years. We run about 150 pair and crop about 3,000 acres with help from our children, Matthew, Courtney, and Michael that work on the farm. I was the president of the International Texas Longhorn Association for 2 years. When we look at longhorns, we like conformation, body, horns, disposition, and color.
