Thelma’s life was defined by her unwavering faith and commitment to both her family and community She married the love of her life, Bill Edward Hargrow, on September 12, 1949. Together, they had four children: Ivan, Althea, Carolyn, and Gregory Their bond was rooted in love, faith, and a shared sense of purpose
Thelma’s devotion to service was evident throughout her life She served as an usher and greeter at Hickory Grove Disciples Christ Church, where she first learned the importance of serving others. After moving to Washington, DC, Thelma continued her church involvement as an active member of Metrotone Baptist Church In 1970, she and Bill became members of New Southern Rock Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on Usher Board #2 until her health no longer allowed her to do so
In addition to her church service, Thelma worked for the Department of Labor as an administrative clerk until her retirement in 1986 Despite her career, Thelma’s heart was always at home, where she was a devoted
homemaker She was known for her incredible cooking skills, particularly her fried chicken, collard greens, sweet potato pies, and coconut and pineapple cakes Her home was always open, and a delicious meal was never far from the table.
Traveling was another joy of Thelma’s life She loved exploring new places, with Hawaii and cross-country trips to California being among her favorite destinations
Thelma’s legacy is carried on by her children: Ivan (Brenda) Hargrow, Althea Thompson, Carolyn Washington, and Gregory Hargrow She is also cherished by her six grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren She also leaves to mourn one brother, Chester (Ada) Lovick. Thelma’s life embodied her favorite scripture, Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a ve up ” She never wavered in her faith or her good and her legacy will live on in the many

Don’t cry for me I will be okay
Heaven is my home now, and this is where I’ll stay
Don’t cry for me. I’m where I belong. I want you to be happy and try to stay strong
Don’t cry for me. It was just my time, But I will see you someday on the other side
Don’t cry for me. I am not alone.
The angels are with me to welcome me home
Don’t cry for me, for I have no fear.
All my pain is gone, and Jesus took my tears.
Don’t cry for me This not the end I’ll be waiting here for you when we meet again.
