¿Cuándo empezaste a practicar TaekwonDo? Después me planteé llegar a cinturón negro. ¿Y ahora? INTERVIEW WITH A GREAT MASTER AND A GREAT PERSON To mark the 20th anniversary of the Club Won Almàssera, we interviewed its founder, Master Vicente Martinez VIII Dan. This short interview will let us know more about his beginnings in Traditional Taekwon-Do. When did you start practicing Taekwon-Do? I started 32 years ago with Master Marino Chico. At first we did Taekwondo WTF. Then, in 1987, Marino contacted Master Mario Pons and we started our way in Tracicional Taekwon-Do. Which were your goals? At first my intention was to play sports, I did it like a hobby. Then, I planned to reach black belt. And now? When I got the black belt, I changed my goals. I was interested in adquiring knowledge of Traditional Taekwon-Do with the Great Masters from around the world. Besides that, my goals were also, and still are, to take my students to international championships and watch them sucess, which is my achievement, too. Did you think that you would go so far? Honestly not. As I was acquiring knowledge I proposed myself different goals. What has been your greatest joy and your biggest disappointment? My greatest joy has been to see my son Vicente become European champion with the Spanish team and also my son Zoe become second with the team. On the other hand, personally, my biggest disappointment was that my son Vincent did not get gold in Pattern in the European championships; professionally, I'm disappointed that there is no unity in the three federations for political reasons. Would you like to add something else? I would lik to say to all federations, both national and international, and to all practitioners of Traditional Taekwon-Do, that we have to leave policy, that we must fight for the sake of TaekwonDo. All together, we will manage to get it to the place it deserves.
