WHAT DOG AND CAT FOOD REALLY IS? BY GABRIELA TORRESÂ
NUTRITION
WOOF MAGAZINE
INTRODUCTION
Nutrition We all have to feed our dogs, and the easiest thing to do, is to buy a commercially available kibble that can meet all the nutritional requirements. However, the industry of dogs and cats’ food has been poorly regulated and there has been an outbreak of degenerative diseases, allergies and cancers that have been associated to the commercially available dry food. What dog and cat food really is? We can often see in the label of pet food “gourmet” or “premium” ingredients. Products labeled as such are not required to contain any different or higher quality ingredients than any other product. Additionally, we can see that the protein available are animal “by products”. But what it means is that the animals have been through a process of rendering. Rendering is an industrial process that converts waste of animal tissue into “usable” materials. This means that the lean muscle is cut off for human consumption and the leftovers carcasses such as bones, organs, blood, beaks, dead, dying, diseased, disabled animals, are cooked for several hours at really high temperature to separate fat from protein. This remaining fat and dried protein solids goes into your pet food as a " by-product meal". The high temperature used in the rendering process denaturalize the proteins, destroys natural enzymes and changes dramatically nutrient composition of the final product that ends up in pet food. All rendered products are unfit for human consumption, yet they are legally ok to be a main ingredient in pet foods. Besides the low quality of the protein found in pet food, there is another more serious issue that completely affects your dog’s health, which is the addition of toxins and carcinogenic agents. Yes, that is correct, there are many forms of toxins introduced into our pets’ bodies through these highly processed, cooked foods. In a study where 25 commercial pet foods were analyzed, 23 out of the 24 had ingredients that had a mutagenic response4. What this really means is that there is a connection between the ingredients in the diet and cancer in animals consuming these foods5. This does not mean that ALL pet foods available contain these toxins or carcinogenic agents. However, this shows that pet food industry is far from being properly regulated and that ingredients that have been rendered toxic, unsafe and hazardous for human consumption are allowed to be in the dry food. Therefore, it is important to read the label and understand the nature of the ingredients that we are feeding our dogs. Their health depends on this.

WHY RAW FOOD SEEMS TO BE THE BEST OPTION?
Many people are concerned about feeding raw food to their dogs due to the risk of Sallmonella, E. Coli and other unwanted bacteria. However, the digestive tracts of dogs and cats is way shorter than humans and very acidic (pH= 1). This means that raw food moves faster through your pet's system and the acidic digestive system kills most of the bacteria found in raw food 6. Therefore, raw food is a very good option to consider when choosing the food of your pet and you can control the ingredients and avoid unwanted agents. After all, dogs and cats are natural carnivores (omnivores really) and years of natural and artificial selection have resulted in a digestive system perfectly made to process and absorb raw food more readily than any other food. We need to be aware of the short term and long term consequanece of choosing one kind of food over the other.

recipes of fresh raw dog food. And within weeks I witnessed a complete reversal in his health!
The more I learned about animal nutrition, the less I could understand why here wasn’t a convenient way for me to feed Garp a natural diet of unprocessed grain-free dog food. Moreover, when I started to share my new recipes with friends, their dogs also experienced the same positive results. Word spread, and soon after I launched Mrs. Meadys. To ensure Mrs Meadys provided the best possible quality products, I called on my background as an award-winning market research consultant. I checked endlessly for the best local inspected meat and fresh produce sources. And after following this up with continuous testing and analysis, I developed healthy, nutritional grain-free formulas with no additives or preservatives. In addition to the special, healthy recipes, considerable time was also spent testing various packaging options necessary to make sure Mrs. Meadys' products are presented in a manner that provides for maximum customer convenience. Now zip-locked in easy-to serve and easy tostore formats, our packaging is designed to ensure feeding your pet becomes more enjoyable and less of a chore. Thanks for taking the time to check us out, and to learn about our products. I’m totally committed to providing the best customer service possible. So, please, do let me know if you have any questions - I'd love to hear from you! I can be reached at david@mrsmeadys.com or call me at 514938-1814.

They had noticed a need for a pet store that had a passion for pets and their well-being in Pointe St-Charles and in March of 2014 Pawse Boutique opened its doors! Ever since they have been welcomed with open arms by the dog and cat owners in the area and wouldn’t want to do anything else! SERVICES WE ONLY REFER OUR CUSTOMERS TO THE PEOPLE WE TRUST. We’ve built good relationships with these people, recommend their services, and most importantly they are dedicated to your furry friends. ADOPT, DON’T SHOP! PAWSE BOUTIQUE DOESN'T SELL ANIMALS We strongly believe that there are an overwhelming amount of good animals in need of a good home up for adoption. Stores that sell animals exacerbates the situation by making puppy mills lucrative. Quebec has the highest concentration of puppy mills in North America. Our answer to this problem is to get prospective animal owners in contact with local rescues.

Some professional or trade publications are also peer-reviewed. Academic or professional publications that are not peer-reviewed are generally professional magazines. The fact that a publication calls itself a "journal" does not make it a journal in the technical sense. The Wall Street Journal is actually a newspaper. History of Magazine Publication The earliest example of magazines was Erbauliche Months Unterredungen which was launched in 1663 in Germany. It was a literary and philosophy magazine. The Gentleman's Magazine, first published in 1731, in London, is considered to have been the first general-interest magazine. Edward Cave, who edited The Gentleman's Magazine was the first to use the term "magazine," ultimately derived from the Arabic: مخازنmakhazin ("storehouses") by way of the French language. In the library technical sense, a "magazine" paginates with each issue starting at page three. Likewise, a "journal" has continuous pagination throughout a volume. Thus Business Week, which starts each issue anew with page one, is a magazine, but the Journal of Business Communication, is a journal. Some professional or trade publications are also peer-reviewed.
