Note from the Editor-in-Chief

This issue of the DrillDown covers a few significant moments within our Heritage journey as we delved into FY23/24. Within the first and second quarters, the company celebrated and acknowledged our world-class staff via our INSPIRE Awards, and took a moment to honour our Heritage Pioneers, a group of individuals that has been with the company since December 1, 2018.

We continue to keep our eyes fixed on our goal of 42,000 bopd and, in this issue, we look at one of the goals of the Midstream Business Unit: to increase our storage capacity. We also highlight the ways in which the company continues to adopt technology, to improve the safety and efficiency of our operations.

Our stakeholder engagement continues to be a strong focus. In January, the company participated in the Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference in Port of Spain, establishing a booth that engaged several groups, including government agencies, energy companies, students, job seekers and the media. Heritage also attended the Guyana Energy Conference and Expo in Georgetown, Guyana in February.

Through our Day of Volunteerism, we undertook our annual efforts of community outreach and giving back, which took us into the areas of Point Fortin and Vessigny.

Please enjoy this issue of the DrillDown and celebrate the strides we’re making to achieve future success.

We are at a pivotal juncture in Heritage's journey to grow production. We began Fiscal Year 2023/2024 outlining a clear, unified goal of achieving 42,000 bopd. As we move past the first and second quarter of this fiscal year, I want to acknowledge the deliberate and thoughtful work that has already gone into achieving our goal.

We’re never going to have an “easy road”. While there are always factors outside of our control, we must always innovate and improve to overcome those challenges. Team Heritage, however, is no stranger to innovation, hard work or success, and I believe we can excel by assessing and adjusting our approach, whether through collaborative workshops to identify and execute opportunities or with new relevant technologies like HiberHilo and Foresight. Hiber Global’s LoRaWAN wireless well monitoring solution, is now providing us with real-time data on offshore well performance, minimising downtime, and reducing safety exposure of our offshore personnel. Additionally, the Midstream BU continues to action its long-term tank repair strategy and most recently, they’ve repaired and recommissioned Tank 15 at the Bernstein Tank Farm.

This article features leaders and senior managers answering five questions. This is intended to give employees a better understanding of our leaders.

1. How would you describe your experience as HR Leader at Heritage?

At Heritage, my role as HR Leader has been both challenging and rewarding. The reward comes after the challenge of accomplishing what is required. Leading the HR team at Heritage which is engaged to complete what is required by the company, stands out as one of the most rewarding experiences.

2. How do you keep your team motivated and foster an attitude of One Team, One Journey?

I do this by creating an environment where ideas are shared and discussed, and there is collective responsibility for our delivery. I have found when an environment is created for learning, motivation usually follows. We also have two or three team builders for the year, which allow us to recharge, reset and have fun.

3. What has been your biggest challenge here at Heritage?

I think getting the Flexible Working Arrangement approval. We are now here, and I thank everyone involved in getting us here.

4. What is the most innovative project that you have been involved in over your career?

There are several that I could think of; if I have to choose, I will go with development of a retention strategy for one of the organisations that I worked with previously. It still works well!

5. How do you relax and unwind outside of work?

Watching a movie or documentary, or liming with my family and friends.

Increasing Our Storage Capacity & Reliability of Crude Supply on Tank Farms

Tank 15 Refurbishment

The Midstream BU successfully recommissioned Tank 15 at the Bernstein Tank Farm on January 17, 2024. This follows a strategic decision to repair the asset, allowing for an increase in storage capacity of 70,000 barrels at the Tank Farm.

Crude storage tanks act as vital components in the transportation and logistics network, allowing for the seamless flow of crude oil from extraction to sale. Moreover, the tanks provide a crucial buffer during periods of fluctuating demand. Storage tanks are essential for optimising revenue generation by allowing the company to store significant volumes of crude during periods of low oil prices, and capitalise on market opportunities when demand is high. Overall, at Heritage, crude storage tanks are considered indispensable assets that underpin the resilience and sustainability of the oil and gas sector.

Within this context and as part of its long-term tankage repair strategy, the Midstream Business Unit identified

Tank 15 at the Bernstein Tank Farm as an asset to be repaired and recommissioned. Tank 15 came out of operation approximately a decade ago, due to heavy corrosion and structural deterioration issues. The repair of this tank would allow an increase in storage capacity, as the Bernstein Tank Farm processes 80% of Heritage’s crude daily. The Midstream Operations Technology Department (now Facilities Engineering) was tasked with the repair work, which included the following critical needs:

• Correction of tank flooring bulging

• Cleaning of internal piping

• Completion of internal welds

• Repair of internal coating damage

• External shell pitting

• Replacement of foam pourers and

• Replacement of firewater piping

• Installation of a tank roof, and other auxiliary measurement and safety equipment

ISSUE 11 MARCH 2024 The DrillDown 9

Increasing Our Storage Capacity & Reliability of Crude Supply on Tank Farms (cont.)

The Repair Breakdown

Repairing and upgrading Tank 15 presented a unique set of challenges. One of the primary concerns was the unknown age of the tank and the rate of deterioration of its structural integrity over such an extended period of disuse. Further, the accumulation of solidified sediments and residues within the tank posed additional difficulty. Therefore, the Midstream team worked very closely with the contractor in coordinating repairs for the tank, as it demanded careful attention to regulatory compliance (API 653), whilst protecting the personal safety of all workers involved.

The fabrication and installation of a new fixed roof was paramount, as the internal integrity and operation of the tank depended on a secure and well-sealed enclosure. Painting the internal flooring, 1st shell course (internal), and the entirety of the external shell allowed for protection against corrosion, extending the lifespan of the tank. Correcting welding issues on the external shell was a crucial step to address structural

vulnerabilities, ensuring the tank’s resilience against environmental elements and operational stresses, including the weld build-up process. Foam pourers and firewater piping were also installed as fire suppression and containment measures.

Safety & Zero Lost-time Injuries

One of the major achievements of this project is the zero lost-time injuries (LTI) recorded for a duration of approximately 25,000 man-hours. This is testimony to the success of the project and the emphasis placed on the well-being of all personnel involved. Encouraging open communication about potential hazards and conducting regular safety drills contributed to Midstream achieving the goal of zero lost-time injuries.

Future Tank Repair Works

Looking ahead, Tank 14 is currently being cleaned and inspected, which will be followed by Tank 11, both located at the Bernstein Tank Farm. Tank 10 at the Point Ligoure Tank Farm is being simultaneously converted to the facility’s Main Wash Tank. Moreover, Tank 10 at the Barrackpore Tank Farm is being fully revamped in FY 2024. The ongoing tank strategy is a forward-looking initiative that adds immediate value and sets the stage for operational excellence in the future.

Accelerating Action

CEO Erik Keskula’s Message at the 2024 T&T Energy Conference

Erik spoke on the second day of the 2024 T&T Energy Conference held at the Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain. He delivered a message surrounding the theme “Accelerating Action,” where he shared some of his insights into the energy sector and spoke on the ways in which Heritage is adapting to the environment.

“Accelerating Action” builds on the urgency expressed at last year’s conference. While acknowledging the progress we’ve made thus far, the consensus was clear — we need to move faster, safely and with focus.

This call to action came not only from industry leaders, but also from the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, the Hon. Stuart Young. Hence, “Accelerating Action” becomes more than a theme; it’s a mandate to expedite our efforts and embrace a future of transformation.

To understand the delays in execution, we must address the underlying issues systematically. There are four critical areas that I believe require our immediate attention.

Firstly, we must break free from the business-as-usual mindset that often protects the status quo, thereby hindering progress. Understanding why things take longer than anticipated is a crucial first step.

The unpredictability that has shaped our sector, particularly over the past decade, requires that we make strategic decisions that are sustainable and adaptable. As we increase production safely and responsibly, we must be adaptable in the way we work.

We typically regard our collective workset as an industry or sector — but what we have evolved into is actually more of an ecosystem — and I choose this word carefully, because it brings to life the interdependencies that are intrinsic to a very complex and highly interconnected system comprising stakeholders, technologies, infrastructure, regulations and policies.

I’d now like to share with you some of the challenges and progress we have made at Heritage.

Secondly, breaking down siloed decision-making across the board, within and across the public and private sectors, is essential to foster collaboration and agility.

Thirdly, a relentless streamlining of the approvals process is paramount. Time is of the essence and our processes must be not only efficient, but also effective in adapting to an accelerated environment.

Finally, we must empower key regulatory agencies, ensuring that they can attract the brightest minds and leverage the necessary skills for the challenges ahead.

ISSUE 11 MARCH 2024 The DrillDown 11

Data-driven Decision Making as We Manage Asset Integrity and Safety Risk

Repairing and replacing compromised infrastructure is a non-negotiable imperative for us, and our focus on asset integrity is enhanced through data-driven decision-making. Over the past year, Heritage initiated a corrosion study to understand the damage affecting our equipment and pipelines, enabling us to tailor inspection programmes more precisely, especially those with costs that are economically unfeasible.

We also conduct engineering and fitness-for-service assessments for land and subsea assets, which use failure data to identify trends and strategies. These enable us to proactively identify and rectify vulnerable equipment, thus preventing similar damage.

Maintaining the balance between asset maintenance and production requires a focused strategic plan that leverages data and technology, the combined skills base of our people and a disciplined approach to capital allocation.

Technology that Unlocks Capability and Potential

We all know that technology is a powerful enabler. Advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence, advanced collaborative tools, flagship technologies and automation are all revolutionising the way we work at a frightening pace.

We at Heritage are proud of our successful implementation of “Internet of Things” (IoT) technology within our Supervisory, Control, and Data Acquisition Systems. We are now able to monitor operating parameters of our top 65 offshore wells, significantly enhancing subsurface surveillance and bolstering day-to-day offshore production and operational efficiency. Additionally, laser technology is being used for facility mapping and volumetric assessments.

The following technologies will also play their part in supporting our accelerated agenda over the coming years:

• Artificial Intelligence for analysing geological datasets, interpreting seismic imaging, optimising drilling processes and enhancing asset integrity

• Satellites for monitoring right-of-way and

• Specialised cameras for effective leak detection

Nurturing and Deploying Human Intellectual Capital

People, business and technology capabilities are key to accelerating our progress in this third decade of the 21st century. Academic, vocational and professional qualifications, on-the-job training, mentoring and coaching all play their part in building the capability and capacity of our workforce. They are enablers in helping us to shape our people and culture agenda as we pivot through these volatile and uncertain times.

MARCH 2024 ISSUE 11 MARCH 2024 12

When I think of value creation, human capital is one of the key topics that is top of mind. But there is also incredible value in the diversity of this capital. Diversity of people, diversity of thought, diversity of experience are all fundamental pillars of innovation and competitive advantage. The key currencies of our modern era are data insights and intellectual capital.

Pivoting for a Sustainable Future

Collaboration, agility, rationalisation, simplification, innovation, people, culture…we all hear these words on an almost daily basis.

When we break down silos we can really understand the interconnectivity and interdependencies of our organisations. This gives us a more holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities that exist, supporting open innovation through

diverse collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and resources.

This is fundamental to all of us being able to pivot and adapt to continually changing circumstances. We all want to create a prosperous future for our children and the generations to come.

Our ecosystem — our sector — helps build infrastructure. It helps enhance livelihoods; it helps bring people out of poverty and make them socially mobile. We are not only in the business of energy, we are also nation builders.

We have the resources, capability and mandate to accelerate and steer this agenda. Our government is supporting us in this call to action. We are all leaders, whose decisions will ripple across the years to come.

Heritage Embraces Technology to Get More from Mature Assets

In a move towards improving production and operational efficiency, Heritage selected Hiber Global’s LoRaWAN wireless well monitoring solution, called HiberHilo, to provide real-time data for its highestproducing offshore wells. In addition to the technology facilitating real-time data on well performance, it also minimises downtime and significantly reduces exposure to offshore environments.

This is a simpler, faster, and less expensive monitoring solution for remote, mature assets with limited instrumentation and connectivity. Many of Heritage’s assets need manual readings, requiring an operator to visit each location to gather information on a well’s performance," explains CEO Erik Keskula. "This new technology wirelessly transmits information from the well into our systems, so issues will be identified sooner, and we can pinpoint wells that are underperforming. Furthermore, we can do this remotely, without having to send an operator to search for the well. This will minimise safety exposure, reduce emissions, and improve response time.”

This “Industrial Internet of Things” (IIoT) technology is currently installed on Heritage’s top offshore wells, and the new data is already being securely transmitted to shore and into the company's monitoring systems. “The teams are already utilising this system," Keskula adds, "to gain insights from the new data to make better and faster decisions and optimise production.”

This installation is the first of its kind in the region. Hiber’s Managing Director, Erik Boertje, said, “We're excited to partner with Heritage for the first offshore installation of our wireless technology in this region. Our solution aims to boost operational efficiency, enhance asset integrity, and improve team safety. Heritage's use of emerging technologies such as this one, sets an example for responsible operations in the industry.”

The IIoT technology is also designed to accommodate the evolving needs of the business, offering scalability, flexibility, and easy integration with other types of existing infrastructure including pipelines and compressors. The company is embracing the new technology and is seeking to apply it in other areas, to improve results across the business as it continues to grow towards sustainable, high-margin production for Trinidad and Tobago.
