2D CAD to 4D SYNCHRO? Image shown below on left is of the original 2D AutoCAD (dwg) file. Note: For AutoCAD text to be correctly displayed in Synchro – Remove background mask under Properties and save file (in AutoCAD) before bringing file into Synchro (otherwise text comes out as squares!).
Within Synchro Pro: Select File>Import>3D>Add Files
Select required AutoCAD (dwg) file then Open. Select Next and you will see the Import 3D window appear. Make sure: Read 3D Text Annotations is Checked. Make sure: Ignore Wireframe 3D Objects is Unchecked. Limit 3D Object tree level by: 5. Set Custom tessellation accuracy to: 100 (for smoother/curved lines in Synchro). Make sure: Process layers as filters is Checked (This will import the object’s parameters too).
Click Next. This screen pops up……Ignore for now.
Select Import. Select Assign to New Resource, then Next. Change Type as required. Type: Location. Then Next.
At the Resource Creation Window you will need to choose either Assign to this Resource, build tree or Add Resource underneath, build tree to create resource for each individual 3D item Enter 0 for Resource tree maximum deep. (This will restrict the tree level of the resources to the same as the 3D tree level, in this case it will be 5) (This will ignore the 6th level depth where the SubParts are found) Then select Finish. Note: If you picked Assign to this Resource, don’t build tree, then cad file imports as one element. Note: Make sure you select: 3D>Lines (if nothing appears on your screen!).
Final 2D AutoCAD file in Synchro.
