T
The new Daily, to which this issue of Iveco Plus is totally dedicated, is the most advanced evolution of a vehicle that has been the favourite work companion of professional transport operators for 33 years. Proof of that is found in the more than two million customers that have made it their choice. The secret behind this success lies in the Daily's ability to continuously grow in contents and versions so it can continue to be the right answer to the needs of transport professionals. And today a new Iveco is presenting a vehicle updated once again, with the awareness of being able to offer entrepreneurs and craftsmen the ideal work tool, meaning that more than the others can combine power, versatility, safety, comfort and respect for the environment. In short, the new Daily still has all the features that have made it famous around the world. Technological features have been added, making it the most modern vehicle on the entire scene. The new Daily is coming onto the scene with a richer range of engines developed by FPT Industrial, starting with the unprecedented 205 HP 3-litre Euro 5, the most powerful four-cylinder diesel of its category. Added to the engines are functions like Start&Stop and GSI (Gear Shift Indicator), which together with new gearboxes reduce fuel consumption. Then let's talk about safety. The new Daily has been fitted out with the most advanced devices for broaching even the most critical situations, such as the ESP 9, a cutting-edge vehicle stability system that exalts the vehicle's control characteristics already found on the previous model even more. All this while maintaining its traditional strengths: loading capacity, versatility and virtually infinite outfitting options. And last but not least, the new Daily holds enormous respect for the environment, to the point that it reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 10 per cent. Up to this point we have talked about substance and technological contents, but the new Daily also sets itself apart owing to its innovative design and strong personality, in addition to the functionality for the many missions of the model. The work of the Iveco designers was also concentrated on the interiors, supplying outstanding results that further improve ergonomics and comfort for travellers. In a nutshell, its "car-like" cab has rich equipment and careful details to satisfy the taste of even the most demanding users. Lastly, a high-impact promotion campaign on the international markets is based on setting off its "strong and professional" nature that makes the new Daily a "Super" ally for daily professional activities Starting today everyone can see the final result of this undertaking: a very complex and diversified range numbers more than 7000 different combinations that meet the needs of customers on every type of mission. The word is therefore passed on to you men and women of the Iveco Network. During the initial design stage we also listened to your advice, aware that no one better than you knows the customer's "pulse". Now you have to illustrate and present the new Daily to the market. Wishing the super Daily success and a long journey!

A leader in its class for 33 years, the Iveco Daily continues to be a benchmark for the market. Versatile, tough and reliable, it now has a range of even more powerful engines which are economical and eco-friendly at the same time. The design is also new, with improved styling, aerodynamics and air flow through radiators and heat exchangers. Many ergonomic changes have been introduced to increase comfort for the driver, from the new-concept foot pedal layout and height-adjustable steering wheel, to new engine mounts and engine soundproofing, seat covers and soft-touch plastic dashboard. And last, but by no means least: safety. The next-generation ESP 9 traction control system, which is more evolved than ever, featuring new, exclusive functions and desmodromic keys for protecting the vehicle and its cargo. What has not changed is the capability of Daily to tackle the most demanding conditions (because of its truck derived heritage) and its comprehensive range, which includes vans, chassis cabs, crew cabs, chassis cowls and so on with gross vehicle weight from 3.2 to 7.0 tonnes. There is definitely a Daily for every requirement.

iesel or Natural Power, all new Daily engines deliver top performance with minimum fuel consumption, emissions and running costs. The engine range is extensive and capable of satisfying all needs. There are six Euro 5 compliant turbo diesel engines: three 2.3 litres (106 Hp, 126 Hp and 146 Hp) and three 3 litres (146 Hp, 170 hp and the brandnew 205 Hp). The very best. The range is complemented by two more EEV-compliant “heavy duty 3 litre turbo diesel engines and a 3 litre natural gas version. Powers are 146, 170 and 140 Hp, respectively.
THE 2.3 LITRE TURBO DIESEL ENGINES The 2.3 litre engines implement Multijet 2+, the most modern common rail fuel feed system. The injectors - crucial for reducing fuel consumption and emissions - are provided with new actuators and spray fuel into the combustion chamber at a very high pressure (1600 bars) in a sequence of micro-injections controlled by the Electronic

Control Unit (ECU) instead of only once to optimise fuel consumption in all conditions. The turbocharger turbine of the 146 hp VGT engine has been completely redesigned to deliver more efficiency. The cooling system is new and more powerful. Furthermore, the Stop / Start system, which automatically stops the engine when idling , for instance at traffic lights or in queues, and then starts it again, reduces fuel consumption and emissions, and will be available from 2012. And that's not all. The new concept EGR system ensures more efficient exhaust gas recirculation after cooling in a heat exchanger. The lower combustion temperature allows a reduction in the levels of nitrogen oxides. Also new is the exhaust gas treatment device, consisting of a

pre-catalyser installed downstream of the turbine, a catalyst and a particulate trap, now standard on all diesel versions. The pre-catalyser is designed to significantly improve diesel particulate filter behaviour during regeneration.
THE 3 LITRE VERSIONS Many innovations have also been implemented in the 3 litre engines both the “light duty” Euro 5 versions and the “heavy duty” EEV versions. For example, the new piezoelectric injectors, the exhaust gas recirculation system, the next-generation variable geometry turbine and the emission treatment devices. As already mentioned, the main innovation of Daily is the 3 litre Twin Stage Turbo 205 Hp engine: the best in terms of technology and

performance. Euro 5 compliant, it has a twin stage turbocharger with two turbochargers and an intermediate heat exchanger (inter-stage cooler) to cool the air between the two chargers to improve efficiency. A twin stage turbo without an intermediate heat exchanger is available for the “heavy duty” 170 Hp version. This solution allows the severe emission limits of EEV regulations to be met without requiring additives (urea) for exhaust gas posttreatment.

A LUBRICANT CREATED FOR THE DAILY
Diagram of the Twin Turbo supercharger system. Note the heat exchanger between the two compressors to reduce air temperature and consequently increase density. This improves engine efficiency. The power and torque curves of the nine available engines are shown below and on the previous pages: three 2.3-litre turbo diesel and three 3-litre turbo diesel engines (all Euro 5 compliant), two EEV turbo diesel engines and the CNG methane engine. Bottom right, the new exhaust system.
New Daily, new lubricant: Urania Daily LS. Petronas Lubricants International has created the only product recommended for the New Iveco Daily to enhance the features of its engines to the maximum degree. Urania Daily LS is a completely synthetic lubricant to meet the needs of the variable geometry turbine, twin-stage turbo and particulate filter (DPF) systems of the FPT engines fitted on the New Daily. Urania Daily LS has a special formula with a low content of Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur (Low SAPS) to reduce particulate accumulated in the DPF by 40 percent and keep the vehicle in first-class conditions over time. With a special anti-oxidising, detergent formula, the turbine is protected in demanding working conditions. This means reliability, performance and low fuel consumption, with environmental friendliness and optimised running costs as a consequence. Urania Daily LS is the result of a co-engineering project of Petronas Lubricants, Iveco and FPT and complies with the most stringent design, quality and performance standards (Iveco STD 18-1811 CLASS SC1 – CTR I1510.D09). Urania Daily LS is consequently Origin 100% Iveco.

the ideal fuel for vehicles primarily operating within cities. The Daily 3 litre Natural Power delivers 136 Hp and, if required, can run on petrol from a small 14 litre “recovery mode” tank
THE GEARBOX The five or six speed gearboxes that equip Daily are an innovation with respect to the models introduced three years ago. The many improvements concern controls, lighter gearshift - which is greatly improved - and lighter weight. The new and improved 6 speed gearbox is available in combination with 2.3 litre engines (from 2012). Agile automated gearboxes are available for all engines, except for the 205 Hp.

DESIGN
STYLE DETAILS The design of the new Daily maintains the family feeling of the vehicle that has been leading the market for over thirty years, incorporating many innovative features whilst retaining the best of the past. Nicola Grande
I

mproving a vehicle that has been the benchmark in the light commercial segment for thirty years was not an easy task. The guidelines given to the designers were clear: to implement a number of improvements to make the Daily even more modern without discarding its individual features. This is why the designers concentrated mainly on the front end and the interior. The result is a working vehicle with a modern, appealing design that is even more comfortable. Externally, the new Daily badging is on the driver's side only. On the rear of the van version, the Iveco logo is positioned on the left-hand side of the rear door, while the Daily badge is on the right. The logos are repeated on the rear bumpers of Chassis Cab versions. The new front-end has a chrome-plated logo in relief on a silver background. This is an aesthetic solution that enhances the brand, making it immediately recognisable; whilst a design choice this is also dictated by the need to improve the cooling efficiency of radiators and heat exchangers. As a result of the new front grille design, the flow of fresh air to the engine is boosted by 18 percent, consequently increasing performance and reducing fuel consumption. The bumpers are new and once again this solution is dictated by both style and function. The new design conveys air towards the cooling radiators. Furthermore, the bumper has a convenient step for ease of cleaning the windscreen. These solutions translate into advantages for customers: lower fuel consumption as a result of better cooling of the heat exchangers (more efficient radiator and intercooler), excellent aerodynamic coefficient (CX) and less noise as a result of
the use of new, soundproofing material under the bonnet. The many new features include headlights, which now integrate the Daytime Running Light (DRL) function: the lights are turned on automatically during the day without needing to use the dipped beam headlights and allowing a considerable energy saving. The fog lights, featuring a “cornering” function (in combination with ESP), are housed in the front bumper. They are turned on when cornering according to the steering angle to illuminate the inner portion of the lane to improve visibility and safety. Style changes have also been made to the vehicles interior. Doors open by 64° with an intermediate 40° step to access the cab with more ease. Once behind the wheel the many changes made to improve comfort can be fully appreciated. The rear partition on Van versions has been redesigned and the driver's seat has been shifted 10 mm backwards and can be adjusted in many ways to allow the driver t o find the right driving position. The steering wheel can be adjusted and moved
by 45 mm in the axial direction. The pedals have been redesigned and the gearbox lever with linkage turned by 180° provides extra leg room. These improvements make the driving position more comfortable and safe, while ensuring even better external visibility. Interior changes also include a redesigned instrument panel, new dashboard materials and climate control system controls. The increasingly more car-like feel of the Daily is also reinforced by the introduction of desmodromic keys, which can be combined with a remote control for locking the doors (optional, for markets where available) and to open either the front doors or the cargo compartment simply by pressing the respective button. The new key was introduced to guarantee better protection to both the vehicle and load. Remarkably, there are over ten thousand possible combinations. Another style detail that epitomises the features of the new Daily, today as “Strong & Professional” as ever.
TOP-NOTCH SAFETY The new Daily has the safety systems adopted by the best car manufacturers - to the benefit of the driver's peace of mind and productivity.
F
A few details of the Daily cab. The instrument panel has been totally redesigned, whereas the dashboard is made with new materials which are more attractive and pleasing to the touch. One of the many new features is the "desmodromic" key that contains the remote control for opening the doors. Not only is it more practical, but this key offers greater safety. More than 10,000 combinations are possible. Cab, seats and controls have been revised to enhance ergonomics and comfort for the driver. The nose of the vehicle and the front grille have been redesigned to improve not only its looks, but also the flow of air underneath the bonnet
rom ABS and nextgeneration ESP to Daytime Running Lights, fog lights that direct their beams in the direction of steering and an ergonomic driver's seat designed to reduce fatigue: these are some of the many innovations introduced on the Daily Iveco to further increase safety. Daily offers ESP 9, the latest evolution of the Electronic Stability Program device. This is one of the most important contributions to active safety because it prevents loss of control by using particular sensors, for example, accelerometers and gyroscopes, that work with the ABS actuators to correct swerving, for instance caused by sudden skidding caused by loss of grip of drive wheels, veering to avoid an unexpected obstacle or panic braking when cornering too fast. This device is invaluable at all times, particularly when travelling in poor grip conditions. ESP 9 implements other important features in addition to dynamic vehicle control: • ASR (Anti Slip Regulator) which works on engine and brakes to prevent wheel slip • MSR (Motor Speed Regulator) which controls the engine braking when coasting to avoid wheel slip • HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) which increases braking circuit pressure in case of panic braking • Hill Holder Control (HHC) to assist starting off uphill • LAC (Adaptive Load Control) which recognises load distribution and optimises ESP operation as a consequence • HRB (Hydraulic Rear Wheel Boost) which in case of emergency braking increases pressure on rear brakes to reduce the braking space • HFC (Hydraulic Fading Compensation) which recognises loss of braking efficiency and increases the braking action to the tripping limit of ABS. Additionally, ESP 9 introduces two important improvements: • TSM (Trailer Sway Mitigation) recognises the presence of a trailer and varies the stability control system strategies as a consequence • RMI & ROM (Roll Movement Intervention & Roll Over Mitigation) which reduces the risk of rolling over as a result of sudden manoeuvres and when manoeuvring at very low speed. The brake anti-locking system - ABS 9 - belongs to the same generation and is an important active safety component. It makes provision for the brakes being forcefully activated on any type of surface without locking the wheels. This reduces braking distance without triggering dangerous swerving and also allows the driver to steer and brake at the same time, maintaining full control of the vehicle - it also facilitates full control when veering to avoid an unexpected obstacle. ABS with EDB and the ASR anti-slip system are also included in the ESP system. In all cases, they can be ordered individually (without ESP) for special bodywork and transformations requiring it. Daily has disc brakes on all four wheels, with double hydraulic circuit and brake booster. Brake callipers and diameter vary from model to model and according to load capacity to ensure powerful safe braking in all conditions, including the 7 tonne model when fully loaded.

COMMUNICATION
“THIS IS A JOB FOR... “ How the communication campaign of the new Daily was conceived and organised. There are many resemblances to Superman, the world's most famous super hero, in the history and contents of the vehicle Francesco Novo
V
10
ersatile, safe, comfortable just like a car, eco-friendly, strong and powerful. All of this is the new Daily, a vehicle that has been very carefully designed down to the smallest detail. Even in its commercial launch. And we talked with Iveco Brand Communication Director Marco Monacelli precisely about communication. "Publicizing a product like the new Daily, which is backed by a 33-year history of success stories and more than two million customers the world over" - he said - "is truly a challenge because we are dealing with a legend. It is a "hero" product with a clear and precise positioning since its first debut in 1978 and with a "strong and professional" spirit today recognised across the globe. So to set out the launch campaign we started off by analysing the history of the vehicle." The Daily was the first light commercial vehicle to be fitted out with four-wheel drive, the first to be fitted with a turbocharged direct injection engine, the first to use methane as fuel, the first to have been designed by a great designer, Giugiaro. These are records" – Monacelli continued– "that "count". They confirm the excellence of a design and justify the success of these years, and which we necessarily had to bear in mind. It is a "super" vehicle from the day it was born. In this study and development work we also involved our customers and our Network by listening to their suggestions and expectations." They demand absolutely top performance from the new Daily (and in response here we have the most powerful diesel engine on the market, with 205 HP), as well as low fuel consumption and emissions (all the new Daily vehicles have Euro 5 engines and are EEVcompliant), a high degree of comfort (the passenger compartment is practically new), advanced technology (we think of all the electronic safety devices) and lots of versatility (more than 7000 configurations are offered)." Monacelli again: "in order to effectively communicate the pluses of the new Daily, we needed an idea that measures up to the product and that at the same time depicts the evolution of the "Strong by Nature" strategy expressed with EcoDaily and by "Popeye". An even stronger and more distinctive idea was needed, something "Super". And here it is: Superman, the hero par excellence, a character whom practically 100% of the population knows and that is charged with positive values of strength and respect like no other. The combination of the red "S" that stands out on the chest of the character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in
1938 is, with our vehicle, the heart of our communcation campaign." There are also other similarities between the new Daily and Superman. The "Daily Planet" is the newspaper where Clark Kent, the main character of the saga, works. Blue is the colour of his costume, as well as that of the vehicle's launch. The new design of the front of the Daily is reminiscent of the upper part of the diamond shape containing the "S" of Superman. The "S" will be on the vehicle to communicate the versions with the most powerful diesel engine on the market: 205 HP 3.0 boasting 470 Nm of torque. "But we are focusing on the substantial similarities more than on the aesthetic ones," explained Monacelli. "Both are strong, reliable, generous and untiring. Both tackle the most demanding challenges. In the films of the saga, Clark Kent turns into a super hero by opening his jacket and saying, "This is a job for... Superman," every time there is a task to be carried out. So we adopted the famous slogan, "This is a job for... ", which is the distinguishing mark of the campaign. That is because when working with the new Daily every professional Marco Monacelli
becomes “Super” and can rely on a true ally that helps him brave the everyday professional challenges. The visuals portray our target of reference, which by opening up a work uniform reveal a T-shirt sporting the famous "S". As if to say, “This is a job for …" The European launch advertising campaign, which will kick off in
September, is planned on the press, radio (with the film's renowned music) and TV (commercials during the MotoGP grand prix races). Product catalogues and promotional and merchanding materials then consistently continue the theme in an integrated manner, representing it in a variety of versions.
ENVIRONMENT
THE EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK AND EURO 5 DIRECTIVE What is the new European standard for and what does it change? The New Daily is the first Iveco range entirely compliant with the new Framework Directive. Paola Ravizza
T
he New Daily will be the first Iveco range entirely compliant with the new European Directive governing vehicle type-approval. From now on, manufacturers across the entire European Union must meet the same administrative and technical requirements to type-approve a vehicle, a system, a component or a technical element fitted on board. We spoke about this with Francesca Barbero and Mauro Sinchetto from Iveco External Relations & Communication - Technical Regulations. Directive 2007/46/EC known as a "Framework Directive" governs the WVTA (Whole Vehicle Type Approval) system. Member State type-approval procedures are being replaced by a Community procedure based on principles of total harmonisation which will introduce a major fundamental simplification: a vehicle can be sold in all Member States without requiring further tests simply by sending a copy of the EC typeapproval form with the requisite attachments from the Member State type-approval authority to other Member States. Before the introduction of this law, the European Community type-approval procedure for complete vehicles was limited to cars and motorcycles. Each country had its own set of rules. In order to sell vehicles of other categories in other UE markets, manufacturers needed to type-approve each vehicle for each market, with evident increase in costs, time and paperwork. Harmonising technical requirements and typeapproval procedures (now mandatory) make the market genuinely "common". The directive is useful for manufacturers who produce high volumes, but also includes provisions for small series and individual type-approvals.
Procedures and vehicle types The type-approval directive concerns all vehicle categories (from cars and heavy-duty tractors to trailers) and provides rules for all possible conditions: “complete”, “incomplete” and “completed” vehicles. Obligation of typeapproval according to the Framework Directive for all cases will be gradually introduced and completed by October 2014. A “complete” vehicle is one that leaves the plant with all the devices and outfits which are for performing its mission already fitted. A complete vehicle is already compliant and may be used on the road without any further type-approval requirement. The case of a vehicle which leaves the plant in an incomplete state is a bit more complicated. Vehicles of this type include, for instance, a chassis cab on which a concrete mixer will be fitted or a bus fitted at a later time onto a chassis. Type-approval is carried out in two steps in cases like this: the first by the basic vehicle manufacturer and the second by the
outfitter. The vehicle can be defined complete only after the manufacturer has finished the last operation (there may be more than two steps) and obtained the EC type-approval form. European Community type-approval in several steps is a new concept. The regulation updates an important document: the Certificate of Conformity (or CoC). Each vehicle (complete, incomplete or completed) must have a certificate issued by each manufacturer that intervenes during a step of the completion and certification process, which certifies that the vehicle belongs to the typeapproved series and complies with all the laws in force at time of manufacturing. This certificate is different from the one used until today. It contains more technical details and it is managed according to new requirements. Regulation activities continuously evolve in the European Union. The Framework Directive was first issued in 2007 and is constantly being updated with increasingly more specific procedures and new attachments which must be taken into consideration for vehicle typeapproval. An important factor which spurs continuous adjustments to technical regulations is technological progress, which is particularly lively in the fields of active safety and emissions. In brief, the Framework Directive is a "living” regulation, in continuous evolution, also considering the broad drive to harmonise regulations worldwide. With this in mind, the European Union refers to the rules of the Geneva-based UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe). The goal is to further simplify vehicle design and import/export by applying common rules. The New Daily range With regards to light (LD, Light Duty) commercial vehicle emission type-approval the New Daily complies with Euro 5 requirements (EC Regulation 715/2007). This standard introduces basic changes to the definition of the field of application for emissions standards in force in Europe. Before Euro 5 LD diesel
commercial vehicles in category N1 (vehicles used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass not exceeding 3.5 t) could be type-approved either according to the LD emissions standard for cars or that for trucks (Heavy Duty, HD), at the manufacturer's discretion. Euro 5 LD introduced the obligation to use the LD standard for all vehicles in categories M1 (cars), M2 (vehicles used for the carriage of passengers with more than eight seats and maximum mass exceeding 5 t), N1 (vehicles used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass not exceeding 3.5 t) and N2 (vehicles used for the carriage of goods having a maximum mass from 3.5 t to 12 t) with reference weight not exceeding 2.610 t and the HD standard for vehicles in the same category with reference weight exceeding 2.840 t, in addition to vehicles in category M3 (vehicles used for the carriage of passengers with more than eight seats and maximum mass exceeding 5 t) and N3 (vehicles used for the carriage of goods having a maximum mass exceeding 12 t). The manufacturer may request to exploit the 2.610-to-2.840 t reference weight range to type-approve vehicles in categories M1-M2N1-N2, which would otherwise fall into the range of application of the HD standard, as Light Duty vehicles. The diagram below clearly shows the placement of vehicles according to Light Duty and Heavy Duty emission standard before and after the introduction of Regulation 715/2007 or Euro 5. In brief, Euro 5 is based on the concept of reference weight and new thresholds determined by the new parameter must be considered. What are the consequences of Euro 5 for commercial vehicle manufacturers? Essentially none for "complete" vehicle according to the European type-approval framework 2007/46/CE. For vehicles type-approved in several steps, however, the basic vehicle manufacturer must consider the features of the outfit to be installed needed to complete the product before establishing which emissions standard to apply for certifying the incomplete vehicle. Basic vehicle suppliers (and consequently dealers) must therefore carefully determine the weight to understand which category the finished vehicle will belong to, and consequently which type-approval standard must be respected for emissions. The New Daily range has Light Duty and Heavy Duty standard-compliant engines which must be chosen for each application according to legal requirements and the working and efficiency needs of customers.
