DIRECT LINE WITH THE EDITORIAL STAFF Do you like the new Iveco Plus? Do you like its graphics? What do you think of the format? Do you find topics we cover interesting? Tell us what you think and what you would like to read by writing to: ivecoplus@iveco.com Your help will be very valuable and the editorial staff will carefully evaluate your suggestions.
Welcome to the latest issue of Iveco Plus. This may be the 56th edition of our company sales magazine, but we’re continuing to drive the changes and this issue reflects the Dakar green livery which has been turning heads thanks to the extraordinary efforts during the last 18 months of the Dutch-based De Rooy Team – which has once again been taking part in the most famous off-road rally in the world. We first introduced this new style of Iveco Plus at the IAA Show in Hanover, where our design and layout reflected the striking orange launch livery used to such great effect with the new Stralis Hi-Way – which went on to be voted International Truck of the Year 2013 But this time it is the turn of new Trakker, the rugged on/off-road model in our heavy truck range, and for which Dakar green is the official launch colour. Indeed, Trakker is a true workhorse, for it retains the DNA of the Stralis Hi-Way, but packaged to suit the needs of demanding operators who require the ability to travel off-road. We hope you like the changes we are making to Iveco Plus. As well as looking at the design, we have also aimed to make the language flow more freely, without, however, losing sight of the real goal, which is to be a sales magazine aimed primarily at people who use it as a sales tool. That's why we invite you to send us your comments and suggestions to ivecoplus@iveco.com, so we can further improve the publication, and ensure it continues to meet with the needs of our readersLooking ahead, we envisage Iveco Plus not only being a print publication, but also an on-line tool, with all the added value opportunities which this would entail. More on that another time! For the moment, please enjoy the magazine. Maurizio Pignata

TRUCK OF THE YEAR
Ready for change 2012 has not been an easy year. The macroeconomic scenario continues to be weak and the market is complicated, especially in southern Europe, where we have a heavy presence. And yet for Iveco it has not been a bad year. Quite the opposite. The organisational change implemented in all markets at the end of last year made it possible to achieve the market share objectives which are a demonstration of the ability of Iveco and its dealers to be bold in the marketplace. We have shown this with the heavy road vehicles: the imminent arrival of a new vehicle, in particular a truck such as the Stralis Hi-Way which represents “the state of the art” in its segment, usually causes a decline in the sales of its predecessor. Our heavy road vehicle, on the other hand, increased market share in all European markets. Thanks to a reliable and well performing product from all points of view. But also thanks to you who have been able to propose it forcefully and energetically, confirming Iveco's ability to be competitive not only with its products but also with its sales approach. An important success, in addition to which is the even more remarkable accolade obtained by Stralis HiWay, elected “Truck of the year 2013”. An award which we should be proud of, because it confirms the ability of this vehicle to stand out on the market: in terms of technological content, efficiency, quality, safety and respect for the environment. As well as in terms of TCO (total cost incurred by the customer for use of the vehicle in operation), the Stralis Hi-Way even better than the predecessor. Thanks to this product we can face 2013 from a point of strength: the objective is to continue our growth trend to reach, as soon as possible, in Europe, the minimum target we have set ourselves for heavy vehicles: 10% market share. The launch was carefully organised, the Network is prepared and the response of customers, is more than positive. Also positive are the results of the New Daily which, thanks to the strong image acquired with customers, has been able to defend its position, despite the very competitive pricing which all competitors manufacturing vehicles derived from cars have adopted to compensate for lower volumes. Not to mention the Eurocargo, which for years has been one of the strengths of Iveco and continues to remain a leader in Europe. Then there is a new arrival, the Trakker, which debuts in a sector in which Iveco has always proved to have excellent products, and which is being put to the test - like its predecessor - in the toughest rally in the world: the 2013 Dakar. There is every reason, therefore, to look at 2013 with a certain optimism. In all sectors we have vehicles to be proud of. To meet the market challenge, however, it is not enough. We must be champions in everything we do and not leave any stone unturned. Neither with regard to new vehicle sales, for which you can count on the CRM which will help you be more productive, nor with regard to used vehicles and after-sales activity and spare parts. We have good products, good tools and a good team. Our Network is professional and strong. In addition, we are now also part of a group, FIAT INDUSTRIAL, which, with the new company, is among the world's leading capital goods companies, with all the advantages this brings. And we are ready to exploit them all! Keep up the good work and a happy new year to all. Enzo Gioachin Iveco Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing

NEW TRAKKER PREMIERE by Giancarlo Riolfo
NEW TRAKKER: ROBUSTNESS EVEN IN THE MOST EXTREME JOBS AT THE HANOVER INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR IVECO PRESENTED A WORLD PREMIERE - THE NEW QUARRY-SITE VEHICLE IN THE OFF-ROAD RANGE, FEATURING A STRIKING NEW CAB. WE TALK WITH ALESSANDRO MORTALI, IVECO VICE PRESIDENT HEAVY RANGE
Mr. Mortali, a few months after the launch of the new Stralis and, at the same time its nomination as “Truck of the Year 2013, Iveco has launched a new version, with an all-new cab, of the new Trakker. Which are the strengths of this vehicle? Reliability, efficiency, robustness and safety, four words that summarise, in short, a perfect work tool. The new Trakker is ideal for everyday use as well as more demanding tasks, such as quarry work.
The cab has been conceived to enhance driving comfort and life on board, factors now universally considered to be fundamental for productivity and safety. The dashboard, entirely redesigned with top-quality plastics, is highly ergonomic. All button and switch controls are easily visible and accessible while remaining perfectly seated. In terms of performance, how can we describe the new Trakker? The new Trakker adopts FPT Industrial
"Reliability, efficiency, robustness and safety: four words that summarise, in short, a perfect work tool." Alessandro MORTALI

This is a vehicle for work on impervious, rough terrain, supporting continuous stress with outstanding performance and reliability over time and with the same level of comfort as a road vehicle. All this is made possible thanks to the FPT Industrial Cursor engines that provide power and durability. The main improvement compared to the previous model concerns the cab. In what way? Yes. The most important innovation concerns the cab, developed by borrowing from the solutions used in the heavy-duty Stralis road vehicles.
Cursor engines, designed to deliver excellent performance and low cost of ownership. Available in 8 and 13 litre versions, they cover a power range from 310 to 500 horsepower, depending on the market and approvals. When will Euro VI versions be available? The Euro VI range, fitted with an Hi-ESCR system, patented by FPT Industrial, will be on the market in 2013, in the 9 and 13 litre versions.
A vehicle that works on construction sites must be robust. Which features contribute most in terms of robustness? Starting with the steel chassis with a high yield limit, each individual component guarantees performance that endures over time. The ZF manual and automatic latest generation gearboxes have been designed with a view to ergonomics and the type of job of the vehicle is built for. And with regard to telematics and functionalities that made the Stralis such a success? The on board equipment is the same. To further facilitate work and life on board, the new Trakker has Iveconnect technology, a system for managing in a simple and intuitive manner the navigation system, driving support tools, infotainment and advanced fleet management services.
THE KING OF QUARRY-SITES The new Trakker is the latest Iveco off-road truck. A robust vehicle, designed to work in the toughest conditions. Versatile, to meet the various needs of users. Reliable, to last over time. Comfortable, to let the driver work in the best conditions and, above all, in safety. It has excellent traction in its various configurations: 4x2, 4x4, 6x4, 6x6, 8x4 and 8x8. Quarry vehicle king, the new Trakker has inherited these characteristics from its predecessors, refining them and presenting itself on the market with a more modern and well-finished look. The front is characterised by a new grille and large-dimension light assemblies protected against collisions, as befits off-road vehicles. The large steel shield protects the radiator while the bumpers have a platform which, together with two handles integrated in the front grille, facilitate cleaning the windscreen. The cab of the new Trakker - available in two models and three different roof heights - is designed to offer maximum driving comfort.
Hi-Land is the short cab with low roof while Hi-Track is the long cab for missions that require the driver to spend the night on board and is available with either a low or a high roof. At the heart of the new Trakker are the Cursor engines, available in Euro V and EEV versions, even "cleaner" in terms of emissions. These six-cylinder turbo diesel engines are available in different versions, with capacities from 8 to 13 litres and power from 310 to 500 hp. The Cursor 8, available in 310 to 360 HP versions with variable-geometry turbine, is a 7,790 cc six-cylinder in-line engine and meets EEV standards, which are even stricter than Euro 5. The Cursor 13 is ideal for the most demanding applications in the toughest environments and most adverse conditions, delivering high torque at low rpm for great drivability. The Cursor 13 is available in the 450 and 500 hp versions with variable-geometry turbo and in the 410 hp version with waste-gate fixed-geometry turbine. The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology for treatment of exhaust gases ensures compliance with emission limits while maintaining high engine efficiency without requiring the presence of a particulate filter. This ensures longer intervals between oil changes. The transmission uses the manual Ecosplit 4 ZF 16-speed gearbox or, alternatively, the automated Eurotronic gearboxes which may be used either in automatic or manual mode. To improve driving comfort, the selector lever is integrated in the steering wheel switch.

To limit the use of the brakes (disc and equipped with ABS and EBL), in order to preserve their effectiveness and to reduce the wear of brake pads and discs, the new Trakker offers the third generation Intarder. The robustness of the new Trakker is confirmed by the choice for the frame of 7.7 mm thick sheet steel for vehicles giving priority to payload and as much as 10 mm for those destined for the most demanding and onerous jobs.

FRÖSCHL BAU CHOOSES ASTRA ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AUSTRIAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES HAS BOUGHT AN ADT 30D ARTICULATED DUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED DIRECTLY TO THE QUARRY
The task was arduous but feasible: meet the demands of one of the largest Austrian construction and road works companies, the Fröschl Bau Group. The result was positive and, recently, an ADT 30D articulated dumper - Tier 3 was delivered to the customer right where it was working: in the gravel quarry of the company B-Transport, which is part of the Group. The vehicle met the full satisfaction of the customer, so much so that Fröschl Bau has ordered a second articulated dumper. Fröschl Bau has five branches throughout Austria, ten gravel quarries and several concrete
plants and specialises in all kinds of construction (industrial and civil, power plants, railways, gas pipelines, etc.). In recent years, it has grown significantly, acquiring a dozen or so construction companies. It employs a thousand people and has around one hundred trucks and four dumpers. The company was looking for the vehicle to replace one of its four articulated dumpers: an old Komatsu vehicle in the 30 tonne category. The criteria were many and varied: specific and professional consultancy, direct purchase from the manufacturer, maximum guarantee on the availability of spare parts and use of Iveco –
Kessler – ZF components. In addition, of course, to the qualities that a vehicle must have to work in the harsh environment of a quarry, where it must give its utmost in situations at the limit of endurance: be robust, functional, reliable and not have an excessive amount of electronic instrumentation. And, last but not least, have an excellent price-quality ratio in terms of vehicle cost and scheduled maintenance. Considering the competition and the ambitious demands, this sale is a great result for the Astra.
The ADT 30 D The vehicle chosen by Fröschl Bau ensures high performance under any conditions. It is a very robust, durable and powerful vehicle, but at the same time also extremely manoeuvrable and with a cab based on ergonomics and visibility. These are fundamental aspects for a dumper which normally works in challenging situations such as quarries and construction sites just opened, where the terrain must still be prepared for the transit of other vehicles. Among the main characteristics of the D series Astra vehicles are a front suspension system with rigid axle, dashboard with high-definition colour display, as well as several options. It is equipped with electronically controlled Cursor 10 or 13 engines, compliant with Tier 3 standards. This solution resulted in adoption of the CAN (Controlled Area Network) bus system, integrated in the new Multiplex system which speeds up and, at the same time, manages communication signals among the various electronic units of the vehicle. The ADT 30D braking system offers high reliability and rapid maintenance with dry disc brakes or multiple discs in oil bath (opt), while a true "must" of the vehicle is the front suspension: it increases comfort and efficiency and is simple both from the structural point of view as well as the number of components. The result? This reduces maintenance stoppages, reducing costs.

FOR THE DAM, SALINI WANTS A RIGID DUMPER
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will be the largest hydroelectric dam in Africa. 1,800 m long, 170 m high and with a total volume of 10 million cubic metres, it will be built on the Blue Nile by the longstanding combination of two Italian names: the construction company, Salini, and Astra. The thirty-year long friendship
between the two companies has led on this occasion to the supply of over 200 work vehicles and rigid dumpers which will be completed at the beginning of 2013. According to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project, Salini must build a main dam, two power plants, one concrete spillway (to control the water level) and a crescent dam 5 km long and 50 meters high. Once finished, the work will produce 15,000 gigawatt hours per year. For this project special, extremely reliable vehicles were required and the choice fell on Astra rigid dumpers, robust vehicles, with a kinematic chain resistant to any type of stress, able to ensure top performance but with optimal fuel consumption. Salini purchased them after verifying their low operating costs, robustness of the frame and ability to work off-road.

DAKAR 2013 THE CHALLENGE HAS BEGUN
SPONSORED BY IVECO IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FPT INDUSTRIAL, THE DE ROOY TEAM, ON BOARD FOUR TRAKKERS AND ONE POWERSTAR, FACES THE MOST FAMOUS OFF-ROAD RALLY IN THE WORLD
8
Participating in the Dakar is a bit like climbing Mount Everest or sailing round the world. A challenge out of the ordinary. More than a race, the Dakar requires ability to navigate off-track and regularly. A mix of physical training and technical skills which, for over thirty years, has seduced great drivers and amateurs, competing side by side, on motorcycles, quads, in cars and trucks, through the most beautiful and challenging deserts in the world. On January 5, the challenge starts all over again: from Lima, in Peru, the 2013 edition of the legendary
rally starts and Iveco, in partnership with FPT Industrial, Petronas Lubricants, BASF and Sparco, as last year, are in support of the De Rooy Team, which it provides with vehicles, engines and spare parts. The protagonists of the race are two Trakker 4x4 Evolution 2, one Powerstar and obviously two New Trakker 4x4 Evolution 3. Collectively, a fleet of vehicles, designed to ensure the utmost in all weather conditions and on any type of terrain: from dirt tracks to the most extreme off-road. The five vehicles are equipped with the 6-cylinder Cursor 13, an engine of nearly 13 litres capacity, 840 horsepower, maximum torque of 3,600 Nm at just 1,200 rpm, and with a robustness and reliability to meet any demands. On board each truck is a driver, a navigator and a mechanic. Among the drivers, the team leader Gerard de Rooy, winner of the 2012 Dakar and driving the Powerstar, could not be missing. At the wheel of one of the Trakker Evolution 2 will be Miki Biasion, for many years one of the top "all terrain" racing drivers, while the other is
driven by the Frenchman Jo Adua, in his seventh Dakar. The two New Trakkers are instead entrusted to Hans “Racey” Stacey and the newcomer René Kuipers, in his first experience with rally trucks.Another six Iveco vehicles have the task of assisting the trucks during the race: one Daily 4x4 and five Trakkers, including one 8x8, two 6x6, one 4x4 and one 6x6 camper version. On November 22, approximately 700 vehicles drawn from those participating in the race and those in support, organisers and journalists set sail from Le Havre in northern France. They reached South America after a 21-day voyage across the Atlantic and the Panama Canal. The challenge is about to begin. For Iveco it is adventure time again.
THE CREWS AND THEIR VEHICLES
FROM THE DUNES OF THE SAHARA TO THE “CATHEDRALS” OF SOUTH AMERICA
Born in Africa, where its legend was written, in the last four years the race has moved from the dunes of the Sahara to the unspoiled landscapes of South America. This is again the stage for the 2013 Dakar, but the big three Spanish-speaking countries are this year visited in a new order. Starting January 5 from Lima, the capital of Peru, a country whose territory is divided between the coast (where 60 per cent of the population is concentrated), the Sierra of the Andes and the Amazon rainforest. The beautiful Plaza de Armas of the City of the Kings, where one million spectators last year celebrated the arrival of the crews, is this time the starting point. After which, the drivers get straight into full swing, facing the sand dunes called "cathedrals". Never before in its history has the race started in the middle of the desert, but the subsequent stages are no less difficult, in a crescendo of tension that leaves little room for improvisation. Even if drivers and navigators have the opportunity to discover the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu or the shores of the majestic Lake Titicaca, the stay in Lima and the route through Peru allows them to experience the rich cultural diversity of this country, which has almost 50 per cent of the population of mixed Amerindian and European origin. After crossing the Andes, with an initial incursion into Chile, the rally enters Argentina, where the amount of sand is less but the drivers are faced with a variety of terrain which favours the most versatile. With almost 3,500 kilometres between the Bolivian border and the tip of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina offers a wide variety of climates, terrains and lifestyles. The first, long-awaited rest day is January 13 in San Miguel de Tucumán. Then the teams return to Chile, the longest and narrowest country on the planet: 4,300 km from north to south and 349 km in width which fall to 15 km in the southern part. A threadlike territory, but with climates and landscapes able to test even the most experienced drivers: from the Atacama Desert - the driest in the world - to the mountains of the Cordillera, with numerous peaks above six thousand metres and towering volcanoes, many of which are still active. The ability to adapt to and manage many different types of driving conditions and the resistance of the vehicles, therefore, are the key success factors. Arrival is on January 20 in Santiago, the most
important city in Chile, at the foot of the Andes mountain range, equidistant from Arica, the northern border of the land, and Puerto Toro in the icy Tierra del Fuego. Far from being a peaceful drive with views of the Pacific, the more than 8,000 kilometres from Lima to Santiago, interspersed with difficulties, make the race hectic and exciting. Last year, the number of spectators exceeded 4.5 million, not counting the more than 1 billion reached by 70 television stations in 190 countries, with a total of 1,200 hours of broadcasting. And that's not all. In 2012, the official Dakar website attracted 4.3 million Internet users - 43 per cent more than in 2011 - also with the same success on social media. There will certainly be the same following this year, because this is a unique event. Not only one of the toughest races in the world, together with the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monte Carlo, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500. But also the Dakar "magic" which is renewed every year, thanks to its mix of spectacular landscapes and emotions.
THE RESULTS OF THE DAKAR 2012
With a first, second and sixth place in the overall truck ranking in 2012, Iveco dominated the 33rd Dakar, against competition from most of the European and Asian Truck manufacturers. It was not easy to put together, in just six months, the organisation of the rally, but the results repaid all the effort. The visibility of the brand and its products during the race was worldwide. The number of visitors to the www.dakar.iveco. com site were enough to rival the car sector. Almost unthinkable for the truck world: just under 49,000 visits, more than 67,000 page views, over 6,000 wallpaper and screensaver downloads linked to the Iveco trucks in the race. And over 30,000 posts shared on Facebook, 120,000 views of Iveco videos uploaded on YouTube and 4,000 images viewed on Flickr. All this only during race days. In addition to the impact in terms of marketing and communication, the Dakar will also have important technological implications: in the race, in fact, the Powerstar and Trakker Evolution 2 vehicles, their technologies, their performance and the reliability of the engines supplied by FPT Industrial have been subjected to the ultimate test. A lot of data was collected which will be used to improve the products of today and tomorrow.

NEW STRALIS HI - WAY TRUCK OF THE YEAR 2013 by Paola Ravizza
THE STRALIS HI-WAY MAKES A CLEAN SWEEP IN GERMANY WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WIN THE TRUCK OF THE YEAR IN YOUR COMPETITION'S BACKYARD? WE SPOKE TO GIANALBERTO LUPI, GENERAL MANAGER IVECO GERMANY, AND WITH MANFRED KUCHLMAYR, COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER IN GERMANY
The new Stralis Hi-Way has been elected International Truck of the Year 2013. The prize was awarded by a jury of 25 journalists during the industrial and heavy vehicle trade fair in Hanover. The vehicle obtained 138 votes against the 107 of the runner-up, the Mercedes Antos, which was the big favourite. According to the jury, the Stralis “provided the best contribution to the efficiency of road transportation in terms of fuel efficiency, safety, drivability, comfort and reduced environmental impact”. An important judgement which completes the characteristics of the ideal truck.
our customers. The interest in the Stralis Hi-Way and for the entire range of our products was confirmed by the extraordinary number of visitors to our stand. This victory, the media recognition and the curiosity of industry experts, combined with our technological excellence certainly constitute the basis for further development of Iveco's presence in Germany. In particular, we believe that the Euro 6 technology, developed by FPT Industrial, represents an absolute advantage over competitors, as well as a concrete and formidable
Gianalberto Lupi, general manager Iveco Germany: “The Stralis Hi-Way won for a set of solutions that include comfort, telematics and infotainment.
10
In the light of these considerations, we asked Gianalberto Lupi and Manfred Kuchlmayr, the significance of the victory in the home of Iveco's major competitors. “The Stralis Hi-Way - said Kuchlmayr - won for a set of solutions that include comfort, telematics and infotainment. But, first and foremost, the “green” technology of the engines made the difference, a crucial aspect for our market in which there are strict limitations on circulation and differentiated motorway tariffs according to the emission class of each vehicle. The exceptional and unique solutions designed by FPT Industrial enabled us to meet legal requirements in the most efficient manner. Thanks to these leadingedge technologies, Iveco has had very positive feedback from the media, a determining factor in promoting the comfort of our product with drivers and the low cost of ownership with industry businessmen”. This success has a particular flavour here in Germany - says Lupi - because it has sent a very strong message to our aggressive local competitors, allowing us to be present at the Hanover Fair as a leading manufacturer, able to develop products with innovative technological content and perfectly in line with the needs of
plus for our customers”. What other commercial strategies for Stralis in Germany? “Well - says Lupi -, the award helps us to progress in the market because here it's worth its weight in gold, given that it recognises the quality of the truck in the home of two key competitors. We also aim to establish a direct relationship with customers, which is one of the keys to overcoming the strong local competition. Bear in mind that also here the financial crisis has started to bite and the market to slow down, therefore a relationship of trust is the basis for everything. Our commercial strategy, on the other hand, consists of a set of elements such as the purchase price, the value over time of the vehicle, the financial services and after-sales organisation and assistance 24 hours a day, all the year round. In this regard, 75 per cent of our repairs are made on the road, where the vehicle is stopped, in order not to lose valuable time. In fact, Stralis customers are mainly medium and long range hauliers, for whom reliability, low consumption and the guarantee not to be stopped by traffic jams are vital aspects”. And so, at this point, there is just one last thing:
“I would like to take this opportunity - concludes Lupi - to wish a very successful 2013 to all our dealers and the entire sales force in Germany”.
PRESS REVIEW The transport press throughout Europe devotes ample space to the International Truck of the Year awarded to the new Stralis Hi-Way. Lots of "orange" covers: a strong sign of the presence of the Iveco brand in key markets. The trade magazines also publish previews on the new Trakker, which we present in detail in this issue of Iveco Plus. COMMERCIAL MOTOR

BUSES AT THE SERVICE OF THE ENVIRONMENT
FOR CITELIS HYBRID, READ "ECOLOGICAL BUS". THE NEW VEHICLE FOR URBAN TRANSPORT BY IVECO IS ONCE AGAIN THE INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY POINT OF REFERENCE
The new Citelis Hybrid is available in the two versions required for large cities: 12 and 18 metres. A concentration of technology designed to meet the needs of local governments, always looking for quality vehicles and, at the same time, attentive to the difficult equation between purchase price, reliability and cost per kilometre. For this reason, in recent years local authorities
have increasingly focused on hybrid buses, both to reduce fuel consumption as well as limit emissions. In this field Iveco has been present for some time with an extensive range of industrial and people transport vehicles equipped with a thermal engine coupled with an electric unit. The latest addition to the Citelis range, the Hybrid represents the most advanced
stage of a city bus introduced in 2006 and continuously updated in terms of technology and design. We have focused on maintaining high standards of quality and on board comfort, also making recourse to original solutions such as, for example, the transverse motor generator and the electric motor positioned behind the rear differential for better use of space on board. Thanks to the various trims available, the multiple interior possibilities offered and the wide range of options, the Citelis meets the needs of our most demanding customers with on board comfort in line with that of diesel engine only versions, without sacrificing passenger space. Citelis Hybrid, moreover, is mass produced using the production lines of diesel vehicles for complete rationalisation and standardisation of spare parts for easy and economic maintenance.
CITELIS HYBRID TECHNOLOGY Using a motor generator group equipped with a thermal engine of reduced displacement and, therefore, characterised by low fuel consumption, combined with an electric motor, hybrid propulsion allows high energy efficiency. Moreover, the system recovers kinetic energy during braking, transforming it into electric energy and storing it in an accumulator. This is a winning solution for two reasons: reduction (20 to 50 per cent) of pollutants deriving from CO2 and NOX emissions and lower fuel consumption. The "Stop & Start" function, which switches off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and use of hybrid propulsion in series helps to optimise fuel consumption, which can be
reduced by 20 to over 30 per cent, depending on the conditions of use. The graph shows the phases of operation of the Citelis Hybrid hybrid propulsion system. The system adopted is of the so-called “Series” type, since drive is always assigned to the electric motor, while the motor generator group which associates the Tector diesel engine with an alternator provides, together with the starter batteries, the electrical energy necessary to move the vehicle. When starting and accelerating the power required by the electric motor is initially supplied by lithium-ion batteries and then gradually by the motor generator group equipped with the 6-litre EEV Tector diesel

with SCR. Once the cruising speed has been reached, energy is produced exclusively by the motor generator equipped with thermal engine. During braking the electric motor acts as a generator to recharge the batteries. When the vehicle is stationary, for example at a traffic light or to let passengers get on and off, the diesel engine is switched off thanks to the “Stop & Start” function. The absence of a gearbox, as well as contributing to fuel saving, provides a smooth ride and a progressive acceleration typical of electric motors. This type of drive, moreover, facilitates a significant reduction in noise inside and outside the vehicle. SERVICE CHALLENGE NON-STOP TRAINING BEING AN IVECO ASSISTANCE NON-STOP TECHNICIAN MEANS DEMONSTRATING YOUR SKILLS DAILY IN THE FIELD. AS A TESTIMONY TO THIS, THERE IS COMPETITION TO ASSIGN THE TITLE OF BEST 24H ASSISTANCE NON-STOP TECHNICIAN AND BEST DIAGNOSTIC TECHNICIAN
Those who work travelling on the roads know how essential it is to always, and in every situation, be able to count on someone who is able to deal quickly and competently with their vehicle. That's why the Iveco Customer Care & Technical Service department has launched a series of initiatives, involving its network, which have the objective of achieving excellence in service. The network and the Iveco technicians belonging to it are constantly monitored in order to provide the customer with the most efficient and rapid service, able to reduce vehicle downtime and maximise customer productivity. To reward the qualities of professionalism, competence and excellence of workshop technicians of its network, Iveco has created the Service Challenge: a Europe-wide competition to elect the best ANS 24h (Assistance NonStop) technician and the best diagnostic
technician, member of the DEEC (Dealer Electronic Excellence Community). The 2012 edition of the event, held in Turin on 19 and 20 October, saw the participation of 30 Assistance Non-Stop technicians and 43 diagnostic technicians of dealers and authorised service centres representing Italy, Spain, Portugal, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The finalists were selected based on the performance of the Service Program and technical skills assessed in the current year in the ANS 24h and DEEC diagnostic categories. ANS technicians in the Iveco network follow a training programme
which, in addition to the usual refresher courses on products and specific diagnosis and repair techniques, also provides targeted training on assistance procedures, road safety and relationship with the customer. Mechanics belonging to the “ANS-24h Team” must provide roadside assistance to Iveco customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, wherever they may be and in the shortest time possible, with the professionalism which characterises the Iveco network. Diagnostic technicians are chosen from those belonging to DEEC, a "community of excellence" whose members represent the top in electronic diagnostics of the Iveco network, constantly trained to address any problems of an electronic nature. Starting with small numbers in 2003, today this community has over 2,000 members.
TESTS AND WINNERS ANS technicians were called upon to take a written test consisting of a series of questions on topics related to the Assistance Non-Stop process with particular reference to operating procedures. In addition, all technicians took an individual practical test on track lasting approx. 1 hour, which consisted of diagnosing and solving a fault on a vehicle stopped on the roadside, fully simulating a breakdown call; particular attention was paid in the evaluation to the customer relationship aspect. Diagnostic technicians on the other hand took a theoretical test based on a questionnaire of 50 multiple choice questions which focused on the electrical and electronic parts of Iveco truck ranges. The individual practical session, lasting approx. 1.5 hours, was based on the identification of three malfunctions and 2 signal detection tests; particular attention was paid in the evaluation, in addition to identification of the technical problem, to data acquisition using the diagnostic tools envisaged by the Iveco standard (eg: Easy and Easyscope), to the ability to configure a PTO and the diagnostic approach used by the technician. Alberto Perfetto, Customer Care & Technical Service Director, awarded Stefan Angehrn (Nater Nutzfahrzeuge AG, Iveco dealer Switzerland) as best ANS 24h technician and Ron Schol (Schouten Spijkensse, Iveco dealer Netherlands) as best DEEC diagnostic technician for 2013 (in the two photos on the right). The winners of the two categories received a travel voucher respectively for €1500/€1000/€500, plus a Ferrari Factory Tour which took place on December 11 and a VIP Village Pass to follow a stage of the Moto GP. After the efforts of the exams and practical tests, the team of professionals in the competition returned to their places of work and their daily schedule to meet the needs of the customer, constantly monitored for achievement of the Iveco objectives of excellence. The standard has been sett for the 2013 Service Challenge!
The Service Program is a program for development and monitoring of the Iveco assistance network aimed at continuously improving the service offered to the end user. NEW ECOLOGICAL PACKAGING FOR 100% IVECO ORIGINAL SPARE PARTS
THE PILOT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR REPLACEMENT OF CARDBOARD WITH PLASTIC PACKAGING MATERIAL GOT UNDERWAY IN SEPTEMBER. A CHOICE IN FAVOUR OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION BY IVECO PARTS & SERVICES
Every year, for the distribution of spare parts, tons of cardboard disposed of by the sales network enters the market with important ecological and economic implications. For this reason, starting from September, Iveco Parts & Services and the logistics warehouse provider Kuehne+Nagel have implemented a project for the gradual reduction of this type of “disposable” packaging with “returnable” containers made of recycled plastic of the same size.

Regardless of whether you are selling a vehicle to a large fleet or a small operator, the demand for innovative solutions which can deliver real-world benefits to the end-user is substantial. And Iveco is one of the companies that has invested most in the search for integrated solutions able to attract customers from the very outset with configurations customised according to their needs, to then accompany them in their work with scheduled maintenance and assistance packages. With the launch of the new Stralis Hi-Way, Iveco offers even more. Aware of the difficulties experienced by the heavy vehicles market, Iveco has managed to lower the operating costs of the Stralis Hi-Way (Total Cost of Ownership) through the adoption of appropriate technologies for quicker and faster maintenance, such as introduction of the new "Green" oil filter with the possibility of replacing of the filter cartridge only. An innovation which has led to a decrease of 5 per cent in the cost of maintenance. In addition, maintenance kits already available as spare parts have been revised in terms of product and price positioning with a reduction of up to 7% in PMC contracts. The teamwork between the Iveco Heavy platform and Iveco Parts & Services, moreover, has made it possible to present a dedicated line of accessories which integrates standard content with customisable packages, depending on the needs of the customer and the driver. The Stralis Hi-Way, for example, can be equipped with various accessories, including a Blaupunkt audio and video system, the new Lavazza espresso coffee machine, a Bluetooth connection for communication between the iPad and Iveconnect or an interior lighting kit to create a favourable environment for driving and relaxation.
