I BELONG At Lansing Christian School, students don’t merely “fit in,” they belong. Their unique identity in Christ is what makes them special, and it is a priority at LCS for each and every student to feel a sense of belonging in our learning community. Helping each student know that they belong to Jesus Christ is foundational to everything we do at LCS. We want students to understand that their lives have purpose and that they have a unique role to play in God’s story. Our vision at Lansing Christian School is to equip young men and women to engage and transform the world for Jesus Christ. This is a big job! But with exceptional faculty, dedicated staff, and a close partnership with parents, we provide an engaging and nurturing learning environment on our PreK-12 campus where students can flourish as they discover and develop their Godgiven gifts and abilities.
TEACHING FOR GROWTH Equipping young men and women to engage and transform the world for Jesus Christ depends on teachers that promote excellence and are Christ-like models for students. Lansing Christian School has some of the best teachers in Christian education who provide exceptional instruction and live out their faith in the classroom each and every day. Our teachers foster meaningful engagement that encourages deeper learning and reflects a personal investment in the lives of each student. As a result, our alumni share time and again how the extra time and encouragement they received from their teachers helped them to grow academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
“The teachers at LCS are passionate about what they teach and it shows in the way they engage with their students one-on-one and make their classroom a safe space to learn and grow, not just as a student but as a person.” – Sydney Shanks, Student
NURTURING FAITH Understanding our role in God’s Story involves a personal faith that informs how we live. Helping our students know God, love God, and serve Him with their lives is at the heart of everything we do at Lansing Christian School. Growing an active faith involves nurturing a student’s personal relationship with God. At LCS, we offer authentic opportunities for students to experience God’s love and faithfulness such as age appropriate chapels with student led worship teams, class devotional times, morning prayer, and Bible studies.
“My faith has grown a lot because of going to LCS. Going to school in such a Christ-centered environment is an incredible blessing. I am encouraged to grow in my faith by others around me, and I love being able to worship freely.” – Eliza Lewis, Student
EQUIPPING FOR PURPOSE Providing an authentic and integral Christian education is about helping each student understand that they have a unique role to play in God’s story. This approach to education shifts the focus away from “what” students need to know, to “who” students are called to be. At Lansing Christian School, our goal is for students to develop a passion for learning through rich and diverse educational experiences that give them the opportunity to understand how their own gifts and abilities can be used to engage the world for Jesus Christ. In our Christ-centered learning environment students are invited to ask tough questions for the purpose of thinking deeply and growing in understanding of people and perspectives.
Academic excellence is pursued at all grade levels by developing the life-long skills of critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, thinking for innovation, empathy and persistence. This is supported by a PreK-12 curriculum that includes integrated technology, coding classes, the creative arts, academic support services, and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
DEVELOPING ATHLETES Lansing Christian School’s robust athletic program provides opportunities for students at all grade levels to cultivate Christ-like character through excellence in competition and sportsmanship. Our comprehensive athletic program begins with Pilgrim Play where students as young as preschool are able to develop athletic skills and learn to play with a positive attitude. The LCS athletic program includes sports for middle school students during each season, junior varsity teams, and 19 high school varsity sports.
CREATING ARTISTS As image bearers of a creative God, it is important for students to be able to create art that honors God and enriches our world. In a time when many schools are reducing or eliminating art and music programs, Lansing Christian continues to make our excellent creative arts program a priority. The creative arts curriculum at LCS includes PreK-12 music and art classes, participation in art competitions and exhibitions, and performance opportunities such as concert and marching bands, choirs, and musical productions.
LIVING THE STORY Serving others helps students gain a greater understanding of God’s world and develop a heart for His people. Beginning at the elementary level, LCS students participate in formational learning experiences that provide opportunity to extend hope, healing, and restoration to God’s people and His creation. At each grade level students are empowered to apply knowledge and skills to produce real work that meets real needs for real people.
“Service is more than an extension or addition to students’ learning. Service to God and others is the direction of students’ learning.” – Andrew Kleyn, Middle and High School Principal
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS Having a PreK-12 campus provides LCS with the unique ability to intentionally cultivate relationships across grade levels. Our buddy programs help promote an inclusive and supportive school culture by encouraging older students to act as role models, and providing younger students with the mentorship of an older buddy—which benefits everyone.
PREPARING LIFELONG LEARNERS LCS has a long tradition of providing quality play-based preschool. The approach of our Early Learners Preschool Program supports the development of the whole child and is designed to help children meet developmental and academic milestones that prepare them for a successful kindergarten and elementary school experience. Our recently expanded program will allow more families to enroll their preschooler in a Christcentered learning environment that respects the pace of childhood.
“With LCS having PreK-12 in one building, community is really promoted. We have the chance to encourage younger students in their walk with Christ and learn from students older than us.” –Harrison Hamlin, Student
CULTIVATING A SAFE COMMUNITY At Lansing Christian School we provide a safe and secure educational environment by creating a welcoming Christ-centered community where students feel physically safe as well as emotionally and spiritually supported. Ensuring the school’s building is able to protect our students in a crisis
REIMAGINING THE CLASSROOM Our building reflects the understanding that learning happens in all spaces of a school. Through a student-led initiative we are now developing new workspaces throughtout the building that provide important areas for our students to work and collaborate. These spaces, along with our innovation lab, provide flexible areas for students to engage in learning with each other in meaningful ways.
situation is an ongoing priority at LCS, and we regularly engage in practice drills to ensure our staff are prepared to quickly respond in the case of an unexpected emergency.
BEING A PILGRIM The Pilgrim represents the journey of learning, growth, and faith formation of a student during their time at Lansing Christian School. We consider our alumni lifelong Pilgrims and are inspired to see how they live out their role in God’s story during college, in their careers, and in their communities. Anna Moody (’16) is a young alumna finding success and living out her purpose after graduation. As a senior at Michigan State University, Anna is majoring in Developmental and Molecular Neuroscience and hopes to enroll in medical school next fall. Anna credits her teachers at LCS with preparing her for the type of coursework and research she is doing in college. Anna is looking forward to beginning her career in medicine so that she can be of service to others, particularly those who are aging.
“For me, there isn’t this question of why I’m here and what my purpose is. I have always had this calling and passion to help elders and work in fields like neurology where I can ease their pain and just show them love and support.” -Anna Moody, Class of 2016

This commitment is foundational to the mission of Lansing Christian School, and we believe that enrolling more Christian families representing the richness of the Kingdom of God in our community, increases the value of the education for all LCS students.” – Wendy Hofman, Head of School

Choosing the right school is a big choice for any family, so how do you know where your child belongs? Belonging invites students to challenge themselves and try new things because they have the full support of their peers and teachers. It’s much more than merely “fitting in.”
Learn in a Positive Environment Classes are organized and productive, where certified and experienced teachers help students engage meaningfully with course materials and encourage richer understanding of the subject.
Strengthen your Faith School should be a place where students can wrestle with questions about life and the world around them. It makes a profound difference to have friends and teachers who affirm their faith during these early years.
Prepare for the Future Students need rigorous and relevant coursework to prepare them academically for college, and also for success in any career God calls them to. A balanced education also equips them to grow spiritually and to develop a desire to serve others and transform the world for Christ.
We’re excited to meet your family and welcome you to this special community. If you have any questions about Lansing Christian School or the admissions process, please visit our website, call the Admissions Office at 517-882-5779 x107, or send an email to admissions@lansingchristianschool.org.
