Ivoclar Vivadent patented glass ceramic formulation Two methods of fabrication 4 Translucencies – MO, HO, LT, HT
IPS e.max Lithium Disilicate ®
Monolithic strength when fabricated to full contour 360MPa flexural strength for CAD 400MPa flexural strength for Press Conventional or adhesive cementation options Minimally invasive dentistry • Can be pressed to 0.3mm for minimal prep or “no prep” veneers • New HT exhibits chameleon effect ideal for inlays and onlays
Material Properties
IPS e.max Press Thin Veneer
IPS e.max Press can be used for the fabrication of very thin veneers (minimal Prep). If sufficient space is available, e.g. retrusion of a tooth, no preparation is required. The press technique provides a more intimate fit than other veneer fabrication techniques. The following minimum thicknesses for fabricating thin veneers have to be observed:
labial
incisal
0.3 mm
0.4 mm

Other Advantages
Higher edge strength vs. traditional glass ceramic materials (can be finished thinner without chipping) Low viscosity of heated ingot enables pressing to very thin dimension (minimal prep or no-prep veneers) Chameleon effect due to higher translucency

Monolithic Lithium Disilicate vs. Zirconia
Monolithic crowns are a single ceramic and strength throughout Monolithic lithium disilicate exhibits similar or better load to failure ratings compared to zirconia restorations. Zirconia restorations have a very strong substructure covered by a significantly weaker ceramic High rates of “zirconia failures” are the result of the layering ceramic being compromised
