Biocompatibility “…these materials do not appear to be any more cytotoxic than other materials used for dental restorations. The lithium disilicate materials were less cytotoxic than several commonly used composite materials and were comparable to cytotoxicity reported for several alloys and glass ionomers.”
IPS e.max Press – Thin Veneers
IPS e.max Press – Thin Veneers • Advantages – Higher edge strength vs. traditional glass-ceramic materials (can be finished thinner without chipping) – Low viscosity of heated ingots enables pressing to very thin dimension (minimal or no-prep veneers) – .3 mm veneer indication
Step by Step
Preparation & Try in Products Needed: IPS e.max CAD Blocks
IPS e.max CAD LT provides high strength (360 MPa) making it ideal for posterior fullcoverage crowns.
Pre-operative situation: Crown on tooth 37 should be replaced
Preparation according to the preparation guidelines. Observe minimum thicknesses.
Use Diamonds, Stones, Diagen wheel (Bredent), and Blue Dialite wheel (Brasseler)
Smooth out attachment points and finish the restoration by means of suitable grinding instruments. Observe minimum thicknesses and contact points.
Pre-crystallization strength is 130 MPa allowing for milling and adjustment.
Try-in in blue state. Check the occlusion and articulation and adjust if required. Grinding adjustments must be done in the “blue state prior to the crystallization.
Crystallize Products Needed: Crystallization Tray Firing Pins Object Fix e.max CAD Crystall Shades and Stains e.max CAD Crystall Glaze OptraSculpt
IPS e.max CAD Crystallization Tray Silicon Nitride tray 3 newly designed Crystallization Pins
Two auxiliary firing pastes, i.e. IPS Object Fix Flow and Putty are available. Putty is rather suitable for full crowns, while the Flow version is suitable for veneers and partial crowns.
Fill the restoration completely with the auxiliary firing paste IPS Object Fix Putty and insert the Crystallization Pin.
Smooth out forced out auxiliary firing paste using a plastic spatula (OptraSculpt) so that the pin is securely in place. Make sure that the external surfaces of the restoration are not contaminated.
Glaze Paste
Mix the glaze paste to a honey like consistency.
Crystallization glaze and firing provide the final physical properties of e.max CAD.
Apply IPS e.max CAD Crystall Shades/Stains for individual characterizations in 7 shades and 7 stains
Glaze Spray
Spray glaze is a quick option – requires practice to achieve proper application.
Apply an even layer of IPS e.max CAD Crystall./Glaze Spray to the restoration by spray or with a brush
Glaze/Restoration Interface
Firing Products Needed: Programat CS Crystallization Tray Firing Pins
Vacuum produces an oxygen-free environment during crystallization.
Place the restoration in the center of the firing tray and conduct the combination firing.
The Programat CS is a two stage oven meaning that it can achieve two hold times in one firing. The CS ships with tongs, tray, & vacuum pump.
Programat CS Oven, the ideal glaze and crystallization furnace for IPS e.max CAD chairside processing – two stage for faster
1. Select Program The CS has 3 pre-set programs and 17 open programs
2. Open furnace
3. Start program
Remove the restoration from the IPS Object Fix.
Check the occlusion after crystallization.
Tip: A steam cleaner can also be used.
Clean the restoration. Remove residue of IPS Object Fix by means of an ultrasonic bath.
