Dining tables
Design, materials, craftsmanship
Then, add the best materials you can possibly find. Look for European and North American hardwoods of only Start with the best design the most exquisite quality – available. Take, for example, and make sure they are the timeless simplicity and sustainably grown and exceptional stability of Hans harvested. Yes, wood is a J. Wegner’s finest work. As natural material and you will pleasing to the senses now see signs of life in every as they were 40 years ago, piece. But be sure to use his tables will also stand the only the very best, most test of future decades. blemish-free qualities for Would you want anything the dining table. less beautiful for your family and friends to gather around for years to come? The recipe for creating beautiful dining tables is really rather simple.
Sustainable hardwoods The hardwoods in our dining tables come from mature trees that have reached the end of their growth cycle. Many are up to 200 years old, and all are sourced from sustainably managed forests. We recognize our obligation to treat these venerable hardwoods with respect – by using them only to create things of lasting beauty.
Finally, hire the most skilled craftsmen available you can find, and treat them well. Recognize that it takes more time to compose a table top when you make every piece fit in perfect harmony with the rest of the table. And know that silky smooth finishes do not make themselves; they have to be coaxed out of the wood with equal measures of passion and patience.
72
Unlike most other solid wood dining tables, all CHS solid wood table tops use continuous plank construction. Planks running the full width – or length – of the table give the most harmonious and graceful appearance. They are also more difficult to source and make, since each wooden plank must be of a very high, uniform quality compared to those used for non-continuous construction.
72
Continuous plank construction
Full-length continuous planks are used on tables that do not open in the middle for extension leaves. Extension leaves can be added to most of these tables at either end of the table (e.g., CH318, CH327, Extend). Full-width continuous planks are used on tables that open in the middle for extension leaves (e.g., CH322, CH329), and on CH002 and CH006 whose extensions leaves are attached at either end of the table.
