Our Hometown's Best Kept Secret: THE 300 CLUB
Dr. Helen Cook, Owner
A Sunday Group attending and eating dinner By Interfaith Gazette Staff Sunday is a special day still for families who understand the power of togetherness, sitting down at a table for a delicious meal engaging in "talk time" around the table. Well, The 300 Club at 3304 Collingwood Blvd., seeks to remind us of how special a shared meal with family and friends, rounded off with great sounds of music,

A Family enjoying dinner together completes the week on a high note. EVERY 2ND & 4TH SUNDAY! Years ago Mr. James and Dr. Helen Cook, had a great idea that moved from an idea to a reality. They did something with it that seemingly was always intended to bring and keep families in our community together. The basic concept of The 300 Club was to offer the community an opportunity to fellowship via the utilization of one of
the halls for banquets, reunions, repast, birthday parties, family gatherings, wedding receptions, retirement dinners, and more at a nominal cost. The recent resurgence of providing a delicious meal on Sunday started in October. Even though the Club is expanding to offer this food service to the community, the word is resonating with friends and fellow members, whose goal is to spread the
word about the BEST KEPT SECRET IN OUR HOMETOWN! Dr. Cook stated that springing back from losing her husband in 2017, who was the rock for the business, has been stressful, yet she remains committed to maintaining and carrying out the vision that was set in motion many years ago. Because Of Who You Are, Have You Made A Difference? I get up every morning at four O'clock and drive down to my office, and after I have done my morning prayer and Bible reading, I sit alone and meditate, asking several questions: Who am I? Am I Floyd Rose really? Am I the clothes that I am wearing, the shoes on my feet. Am I somebody else? Where did I come from? I don't mean what is my ethnicity, or culture, or city, state, or the United States. I have a source that is beyond Valdosta Georgia, or even America. I came from from somewhere and someone else. He who made me from the beginning, gave me purpose for my life.He made me to be what I am, and who I am. My purpose then is to please Him who made me. My obedience to Him is His responsibility for me. Since I did not make myself, I am not my own, and don't belong to myself. I belong to the One who made me. He is my source and He gives me my resources with which to live. When He finishes with me, the resources will dry
up, and I will return to the Source. He will then decide whether I have carried out his purpose. My success in this life is predictable, and depends on my willingness to carry out His purpose. My failure is also predicable, and depends on my unwillingness to decide to accept Him who made me. I,therefore, need not worry about anything. The birds of the air are provided for, and so are the fish in the sea. And God says that I am more important to Him than they. My daughter, Jennifer, who flew down to Valdosta to be with her father on Easter, was at Bible study at the East-side Church Of Christ, said something interesting. She said, "God has reserved in me a space only for Himself and if I try to fill it with anything or anybody else, whether is is drugs, alcohol, or men, I will be miserable, and may never know why." Jennifer was right. The basic difference in us and the birds that fly trough the air, and the fish that
swim in the sea, is instinct. Birds instinctive fly, and fish instinctively swim. However, I have something that is called free will. If I chose to fly, I build an air plane and fly. If I want to swim, I simply get in the water and swim. It is my choice.And. if in all of my ways, I acknowledge Him,. He will direct my paths."Yes. my obedience to Him is his responsibility for me Unfortunately, everybody wants to be accepted, so we dress like everybody else. talk like everybody else, and we often ask, what do others think? So, we put our fingers in the air to see which way the wind is blowing, before we make a decision. We don't want to be different. But only the different people in the world ever make a difference in the world. Floyd Rose Senior Servant Serenity Church

Dr. Hall chose to speak from the scripture II Kings 6: which focused on the relationship between Elisha and Elijah, the Prophet who was sent by God to the Brook of Cherith, a place that dried up. However, he chose as his subject to speak to the elevated, How are you going to handle Elijah's Anointing? Bishop Hall cautioned the church and those aspiring to serve in ministry, to not go after something that your character cannot handle. He spoke this truth as well, that the Ecclesia has been led by people and
Psalm 75: 6 reads: "For Promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. It is God who judges; he brings one down, he exalts another." This scripture was synonymous of what took place at Second Baptist Church last month during a service of jubilee where several men and women of God who made their election sure, matriculated into a higher calling on their lives. Serenity Church Springs Into High Gear In A Spring Revival! B y I nterfaith G azette S taff Tuesday night on Woodstock Ave. soared with one church that left its mark on the corner with praises that rang out to welcome in Spring in a hallelujah, jubilant way. Serenity Church and Bishop M. C. McGhee, vowed to happily exercise their right as people of God who "just want to praise God" in their own way, by welcoming Pastor Stan Thomas of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Detroit, Mi. to be the Revivalist for the three days that would be set aside to preach the word of God in a powerful manner. The songs of praise, the hands of affirmation, and the rousing Yes Lord, all had their place in attendees showing
Second Baptist from page 4 not by God; their focus has been that of popularity and not power. The church has become driven by what they believe will get them titles without commitment to serve God and obey his word. A powerful word preached by Bishop Hall was well received by the church and the newly promoted Ministers.
Bishop M. C. McGhee with Revivalist Stan Thomas and Preachers attending Those persons who were promoted are Elder Terrance Pounds, Minister Lanita Roberts, and Minister Lorrine Bartley. Elder Aaron Murray and Elder Thomas Bell, received certificates for completing Bible School. Congratulations to Pastor Boose and the persons who were licensed and ordained to further their call in ministry. May God continue to bless you as you progress in him, we celebrate your promotion.
gratefulness for being a part of the revival. Many had made their way to the house of God to be a part of this highly spirited, charged atmosphere that would radiate itself throughout the
building. Also joining in the revival was Superintendent Dan Cunningham and the United C. O. G. I. C., who shares a significant role in the life of the Guest Speaker for the week. You see Superintendent Cunningham spoke about how he came to know Pastor Thomas many years ago when listening to him preach on the radio in Detroit and introducing him to the Toledo area after getting to know him. If Tuesday night was any indication as to how the rest of the week would end, it is no doubt that Serenity Church would have many wonderful days ahead to thank God for the worship experience that the6 encountered. Pastor Thomas spoke from the book of 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18. He encouraged the Body of Christ to be mindful of the instructions that had been given to REJOICE EVERMORE, PRAY AND GIVE THANKS! God bless you Bishop McGhee as you continue to lead the people of God and empower them with the word of God! Again, we give God the glory!

Mental Health Awareness Month By Oyen Hoffman Mental health is essential to everyone’s overall health and well-being, and mental illnesses are common and treatable. So much of what we do physically impacts us mentally. It’s important to pay attention to both your physical health and your mental health, also called behavioral health, which can help you achieve overall wellness and set you on a path to recovery. Mental Health Awareness Month was started by back in 1949 by Mental Health America. That means this year marks MHA’s 70th year celebrating Mental Health Month. In May 2019, Mountain Family Health Center is expanding our focus and raising awareness about the connection between physical health and mental health. We are
exploring the topics of animal companionship, spirituality and religion, humor, work-life balance, recreation and social connections as ways to boost mental health and general wellness.
A healthy lifestyle can help to prevent the onset or deteriorating mental health conditions, as well as chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes and obesity. It can also help people recover from these conditions. For those dealing with a chronic health condition and the people who care for them, it can be especially important to focus on mental health. When dealing with dueling maladies, focusing on both physical and mental health concerns can be daunting — but critically important in achieving overall wellness. There are things you can do that may help. Finding a reason to laugh, going for a walk with a friend, meditating, playing with a pet, or working from home once a week can go a long way in making you both physically and mentally healthy. Being around pets
The company of animals — whether as pets or service animals — can have a profound impact on a person’s quality of life and ability to recover from illnesses. A pet can be a source of comfort and can help us to live mentally healthier lives. Spirituality and religion Whether you go to church, meditate daily or simply find time to enjoy that cup of tea each morning while checking in with yourself, it can be important to connect with your spiritual side in order to find that mind-body connection. Spend some time outside, and look on the upside We live in an area that offers great opportunities to be more aware and mindful,
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. — Hebrews 11:1

Mental Health from page 8 by taking in the views, breathing in clean and fresh mountain air, and engaging in any form of activity — from walking, hiking, bike riding, to river sports and so on. These all are good ways to take better care of yourself. Remembering that an attitude of gratitude can help us recover from mental and physical illnesses, and there are always reasons to be grateful. Substance Use Disorders Substance use disorders are both a medical and mental illness. Slowing the frequency, cutting down the amount, or simply stopping alcohol or drug use altogether will surely make you feel better. Limiting or quitting tobacco use, vaping, computer gaming, and social media will increase energy, enhance mood, and create more opportunities to get outside and be more social.

A lack of relationships has the same health consequences as smoking a pack of cigarettes per day. So get out there and be with, or around, people. Taking time off work and going “off grid” from texts and emails are excellent forms of self-care also. If you find that these are too difficult, then ask for help. Asking for help is tough … so it takes courage. Mountain Family Health Centers wants everyone to know that mental illnesses are real, and recovery is always the goal. Living a healthy lifestyle may not be easy but can be achieved by gradually making small changes and building on those successes. Finding the balance between work and play, the ups and downs of life, physical health and mental health, can help you on the path towards focusing both mind and body.Oyen Hoffman is a clinical specialist & substance abuse supervisor with Mountain Family Health Centers.
