WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. The three elementary basic types of the development surface is the cylinders, cones, tangent surface of space curves. A cylinder surface S is formed by a family of parallel lines. Cones, recall the definition of a general cone: given a profile curve P. and a vertex point v,the cone consist of all lines connecting v with points of p. And the tangent surface is formed by the polygons .

Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. The understanding of development surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry because recognise of the development is important to construct the architectural surface, and it gives us a sense about how the true module is crated by the panelling. For example, just as the Huyghe +Le Corbusier Puppet Theater,MOS used the geometrical triangles to created percepually curved surfaces. It’s useful which makes it successfully develop.

VARIABLE 2D PATTERN

As the first pattern, I did the simplest patterns-stars.

I did the composite pentagon as my second variable 2D pattern.

AS the third patterns,I combined three different things to finish the compound pattern. And the three patterns are finished by choosing the different attractor .

3D PANEL TEST PROTOTYPE & TEMPLATE

There are the 6 items which I have tried to unrolled. It’s obviously that if we tried to unroll the complex shape,it will like the item 4,and its may can’ fold.

Example of the Box one ,and it’s too simple which make me consider about folding a more complex one.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? Digital fabrication is a architectural drawing and material techniques documents architecturally innovative projects realized through digital design and construction process. And the three-dimensional model can help the designer to think outside the traditional concept of the general architectural productions and forms. The actual folding of material is in part the simple and direct result of the process of prosing a building in a line whin its conceptual aspiration.

Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? -Folding turns a flat surface into a three- dimensional one. It’s a powerful technique to make form and create the structure with geometry, -Folding is materially economical .visually appealing, and effectively at multiple scales.
