Building history 520 ELM DRIVE, MADISON, WI 53706 Built in the year of 1868, this 50 by 60 feet structure contained horse and cattle stables, a granary, a tool room, along with bays meant to store hay and grain. In the basement level, there was a fruit and root cellar, a manure cellar, and an apartment that took up this lower level space. About 15 years later from when the structure was built, slight renovations were made by J.T.W. Jennings who was known as the University's supervising architect at that time. Most of the original architectural elements of the horse barn remained the same after the renovation process, however, as the architect wanted to keep the structure's historical charm as much as they could.
ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS: Tudor Revival Style Decorative half-timbered gable end Lit multipaned windows Gabled front porch supported by ionic columns Two story horse barn, where stables are located on second floor, with small hopper windows present for ventilation

KYLE LI YEAR: Junior HOMETOWN: Beijing, China MAJOR: Applied Math & Data Science
Question 1: What is your favorite place on campus, and why? My favorite space on campus is the memorial union. I really like the natural view of the lake and often take walk there. I also like the food (ice cream) and comfortable seating. It is a great place to study and relax. Question 2: What do you think is missing on this campus that could better improve the mental and physical health of students? I would like there to have more dining and resting areas since we don't have too many options for different types of eating around campus. At my freshman year I ate a lot at the school's dining halls and I wish there were more choices and better environment. Question 3: Describe a place/space that you have visited in the past that makes you feel most comfortable and at home. I once went to the Arboretum near Lake Wingera and seeing the similar plant with those back at China make me feel like home. As a child I played a lot with my friends in the nature, and the Arboretum brings back my memories.

INTERVIEW CONCLUSIONS
STUDENTS
PET THERAPY
18-27 These individuals received a hands on experience of our campus, as all of them have been a part of the UW Madison community for a few years. Gave initial observations and insight about what is offered, but also what is missing on our college campus too.
A consensus from students was that an increase in mental health services, specifically with access to therapist, or simply just people to talk to and connect with was a more important addition than a space for Pet Therapy
KEY INSIGHT 1. Natural light is desired and needed in student campus spaces. 2. Biophilic design is crucial to connect students to the outside world. 3. There is a lack of availability and accessibility in mental and physical health services here on campus 4. In dire need of study spaces that provide a sense of welcome, and inclusivity to all.
Mission & Vision Our mission is to provide an authentic space based on student needs that generates a stronger connection to nature and fosters a sense of community and belonging.
VISION THIS.... Our Student Wellness Center will be a place of rejuvenation where students can enrich their connections to themselves, their surrounding environment and community, as well as feel a sense of place & belonging.

Mystery, magic and exploration
About The Moon The Moon House is a unique and inclusive student wellness center located on the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The center provides students easy access to therapy services, a connection to nature, and the opportunity to rejuvenate. The Moon house boosts a wellness cafe, evening bar, and a calm study space as well as a performance area for student activities such as music, live comedy, and dances. The pet therapy rooms, the wellness cafe, and the study space located on the first two floors incorporate natural textured materials, with a pastel color palette to create a calming and healing atmosphere. As students move up to the third floor, the space becomes more dynamic, engaging, and mysterious, with a live performance area and a bar. Marble, glass, and velvet are combined with a dark color palette. Embedded indirect lightings are used to make the space more elegant and mysterious.
