Dear Ladies,
Well, that is it, it’s all done, the Christmas bazaar came and went at the weekend, as always it was a great day but not without its challenges! We will have the final ON THE DAY figure for you at the December Coffee morning, with the final overall figure being announced by the end of January 2017. As a club, we are amazing, you are all amazing, it really is wonderful to be part of a club where everyone wants to help and give their time, for no other reason than to help others less fortunate. There will be a Charity Committee Meeting in January, so if you would like to be a part of the decision making process of which charities will be supported next year, then make sure you sign up in January. We still have a few events before the festive season begins, if you are still around it will be lovely to catch up with you at the monthly lunch and there is the candle making workshop for those of us who are feeling creative. but where ever you are in the coming weeks, safe travels, much happiness and warmth. hugs and love for everyone. Until next time.

Charity update First charity visit to one of the newest projects supported by IWC-Sofia “For Our Parents”, established by BCause Foundation November 25th, 2016 During the first distribution of funds in 2016, the board of IWC-Sofia has decided to support a new project submitted by BCause Foundation – “For Our Parents”Fund. The fund aims to improve health and social care for the elderly and support of cultural initiatives and intergenerational. With this fund finance: ensuring access to health research and consultations with specialists, providing social support for elderly people from small towns, support for local cultural institutions, formal and informal groups of adults. In the beginning of November Bcause Foundation has invited IWC-Sofia to make a charity vision and a supervision of the project. For IWC-Sofia that was another opportunity to invite not only its members, but also to the stallholders who have major role in the fundraising process. We were very glad to welcome on visit the new Ambassador of Marocco and her husband, representatives of the Cultural Institute of Iran in Bulgaria and the Embassy of Greece. Our first stop was in town of Mezdra where we were special guest of the mayor Mr. Genadi Sabkov. The municipality surprised us with nice entrainment program. Mr. Sabkov welcomed us and emphasized on how much the municipality of Mezdra appreciate the support of IWC-Sofia. He told about different social and economic projects that are important for the local people and he shared hope that Mezda will become again a good place for living. Mr. Sabkov was very kind to organize for us a special tour in the local fortress, where we had an opportunity to get know more about the local history. The next stop was the mountain village of Oselna, where 450 people are living. Because the village is high in the mountains and the municipality is poor there is no any bus transportation, and locals can rely only on neighbors with own transportation. Thanks to IWC-Sofia financial support almost all people from the village (most of them in their 80s and 90s) had a chance for free medical exams. Some of the elderly came to greet us for the support. On the behalf of the Charity Foundation of IWC-Sofia would like to thank you to our partners from BCause for the very well organized visit to Mezdra Municipality!
Supervision of the Pink room in Pernik, established by Pink Foundation As part of our charity regular supervision there was a visit to the Pink Room in Pernik on November 24th, 2016. The Pink Room is situated in one of the local schools where most of the students are from poor families – both Bulgarians and Romas. Thanks to Pink Foundation the children are having the opportunity to visit on regular bases different classes such as Art workshops, English Educational Programs and etc. Pink Foundation designed a special programs such as Cinemania with movies for children and Adaptation (Socialization).

22nd Charity Bazaar This year my Christmas preparation started early. No, it was not in autumn, or even summer! It started early spring, when I said “yes” TO Toi and for the preparation for the 22nd Charity Bazaar! And I am very happy indeed for that “yes” and for the easier and more difficult moments we had with Toi and all Bazaar Team while preparing for this magical event! When I look back, the time with the preparatory works flew away, as it was rich in “juicy” discussions, excitement while introducing new things, healthy worries while facing the obstacles and of course spirit of winning when getting one more donor or enriching the upcoming Bazaar with one more new country on the stage! And though sometimes the situation seemed to be not so bright, plans not fully achieved and amount of donors not satisfactory, still it was one of the most beautiful and fulfilling moments of this Year! And now, when the 22nd Bazaar is behind us, I believe that everybody of us, who put his hand for this good cause to happen, woke up with the heart full of joy and pure happiness! How else could it be, when you see such amount of kindness gathered in one place by so many people? Kindness which made us, regardless our differences, to come together and to work for a beautiful upcoming Christmas magic to happen – to collect proceeds to the ones in this country, who needs support the most! So, that their next Christmas would be already brighter and happier! And this makes us to believe that miracles do happen and magic do exists! And how do you prepare for the upcoming seasonal celebrations?!

The world comes to you!
Dear Friends,
to their stalls. Everybody helped, everybody collaborated and everybody enjoyed it! We started having an idea of how the floor plan would look like and in November we all visited the halls. This was a very important month. At this point in time all needed to be confirmed and under control because the first Sunday of December, traditionally for 22 years, after the opening ceremony, at 10:30‌
The 22st IWC Charity Bazaar is over. I am happy that we made again another successful bazaar! It was great to meet all of you again at our main charity event. The world really came to us!!!! We had around 60 countries participating in this year bazaar, and every year more and more countries want to join it. This is a real success, more and more people want to be a part of the biggest charity event in Bulgaria.
‌ THE WORLD COMES TO YOU !!! And this is the payoff to all of our efforts. To see all the volunteers working hard, the public enjoying the delicious food, eating and drinking all together, kids dancing on stage, lights, music, cheers of love and joy, everybody willing to help, everybody wanting to raise as much money as possible to help others. There is nothing more rewarding than working to make others happy.
It is amazing to see how so many different nationalities and cultures get together to make it possible. Everybody forgets about the daily routines, about the world conflicts and out little problems to spend the day smiling at each other. Over several months, the entire bazaar team worked very hard to make the event possible. We started planning the event in May, looking for new ideas to improve the organization and to make everything easier for the stallholders. We spent the summer looking for new donors, gathering suggestions from all our friends and colleagues about how to raise more money, preparing the printing materials and getting things ready for the First Stallholders Meeting in September.
I would like to openly thank all members of the bazaar team, for the great job! I would not have been able to do it without them. Everybody contributed to this big success. Ernesta, as assistant bazaar coordinator, Angelina, Maya and Tanya looking for donors and sponsors, Annamaria taking care of donors’ logos and the advance tickets sales, Veronika coordinating the job of all volunteers, Anja with the amazing videos promoting the bazaar, Elisaveta as municipality and printing materials coordinator and organizing the concert with the special guests, Yana and Martina taking care of the workshop and inner stage, Johanna with the IWC Passport and Zarina and Marina at the office supporting the overall organization.
In September everything truly began. We met the stallholders, most of whom have been participating at the bazaar for years, but some of them came for the first time. We experienced a great driving force where experience met with new ideas. During September and October all the stalls registered and started planning. They raised a lot of questions and shared a lot of enthusiasm, efforts contacting donors, creativity in finding ways to attract the public
And a special thank you to Aldona who supports the IWC Charity Bazaar from the Polish Embassy every year.

It would also have not been possible without the hard work of the IWC Executive Board. Angela was at any time my main support, she helped me to take the best decisions to get the best results; Kelsa organized the treasure room in an excellent way and everything went smooth and perfect; Nadya supported the bazaar organization during all the process, the Facebook page and the IWC Stall together with Maria who coordinated the Charity stalls as well as all the proceeds of the workshop.
These ladies gave all the best to our cause, all these ladies deserve a medal. I have no words to express my gratitude for their support at any time! I take the opportunity to wish you Merry Christmas and my best wishes for the New Year. Sincerely,
Toi

My Bazaar experience I have been living in Sofia for a relatively long time, yet I had never been particularly involved in the IWC Charity Bazaar: apart from a couple of unstructured appearances in the Greek Stall in the past years, I cannot say that I truly grasped the very essence of this event, nor could I imagine the sheer amount of hard work and efforts that go into it. Until now. Everything started at the beginning of the summer. I found out through some friends that the Bazaar Team was looking for volunteers and I swiftly decided to join. I already knew some of the members, so the initial meetings were a refreshing change in the otherwise slow-paced summer days: after all, who wouldn’t like to talk about Christmas, mulled wine and the eventuality of snow, while trying to breathe in Sofia’s scorching heat? I immediately felt the contagious enthusiasm of the organisers, first and foremost Toi’s: our Bazaar Coordinator truly believes in this great cause and has a grand vision for the event itself. She has been inspiring, to say the least. Weeks and months flew by and, as the Bazaar date approached, things started falling into place. Tasks had been assigned, contacts made, stakeholders informed – work started slowly yet steadily piling up. My tasks were mainly supportive – I was not after all at the frontline of this huge endeavour. Nor could I, as this has been my first time as a member of the Bazaar Team: my duties consisted in collecting the logos from all contributing sponsors and in being responsible for the advance ticket sales. Throughout these past months, thanks to the excellent communication within the team I was able to get support and help anytime I was in need, and similarly I hope to have been useful when asked to help someone else in return. We worked as a team, and I realise this could sound like a cliché, but it truly and honestly is the case. Meetings were always characterised by a joyful atmosphere among us, and I am extremely happy to say that I have made some good friends throughout this experience. I have come to get to know and respect many of the ladies I have worked with – some of them I only met because they were members of the Bazaar team or external collaborators, and I am thankful for this opportunity, on a personal level but also on a working level. Indeed, I have learned so much from it all: different working methods, different approaches (let’s not forget that our group consists of ladies coming from many countries: just like the Bazaar stalls!). I have also managed to try and balance my family life with the Bazaar preparation period – and this was a personal challenge that I hope I succeeded in without major casualties ☺ More than anything though, what mostly struck me during this past few months is the actual end result. While working at the stalls, like I was in previous years, I believe that I had taken so many things for granted. Perhaps it was a rather naïve attitude, but I somehow thought that things were just happening by themselves, without major external intervention. Of course this is not the case, and I felt it on my skin during the few days prior to the Bazaar date and on the event day itself. Every little detail has to be thought over, discussed, decided, requested, organised: from juggling the amount of rented tables among the stalls to organising night-time security for the outdoor tent – everything must be anticipated and dealt with. This is a huge event with more than 8,000 visitors: numbers are enormous, responsibilities are significant and the feeling that I am left with at the moment, at the end of a very long day, reflects all that. Beyond the actual final outcome in terms of amounts raised (the Treasury is working hard counting money as I am writing this!), I am left with a deep sense of satisfaction and accomplishment – this has been a long a demanding journey and I can only express how proud I am of having been part of this noble project. So, thank you Toi, Angela and to the rest of the team: you have been a major inspiration and the driving force of the Bazaar, have taught me so much about hard work and dedication and, all in all, I am coming out of this experience feeling I have become a better person. Merry Christmas everyone!

You will get to experience authentic Indian cuisine cooked by an amazing woman who is Romanian, yet married to an Indian. The fun comes from the mélange of cultures, Indo-Romanian, that shows you can cook Indian with a bit of will and taste for it! If Claudia can cook Indian, so can you. Dishes that will be tested and demonstrated are: 1) Sheera, which is a sweet dish served for served for breakfast or as coffee snack. 2) Samosa, an easy starter that is a must in Indian cooking. Next course is the always present at every meal except breakfast, the 3) Tadka Dal + Rice. Afterward a dessert of 5) Phirni and soon after open your buttons because the feast is over!
In the beginning of a new year, let’s celebrate with a lunch at an equally fresh venue. “Predi 10” or Before 10 is an eclectic, rustic looking, secret, new restaurant that many would miss. But as you go inside, it opens a very nice and warm, homey feeling in your heart. Adding to this, the food is absolutely fantastic, also made with a lot of passion. You can tell that the people behind the restaurant put as much thought to the appearance of it as much as they put it in the taste of the food.
