National Revival Day New on-line Bazaar tickets sale Polish Embassy hosts second Stallholders Meeting Next Coffee Morning: 13th December, venue t.b.c.
Letter from the President Dear Ladies, Well here we are already, one month until the Bazaar, the next time I write again, we will have done everything we can and the result will be known. I hope I will be announcing another record year! As a charity foundation, we are very much respected and every year we receive more and more requests for funding, so having enough money to help all those that we would like, is our biggest goal. There is still time if you have a creative side to help make things to sell at the bazaar. This month beside the usual monthly events, Nadya will be trying to arrange some events where we can all get together, have fun, maybe learn new crafts and be able to donate our creations to the bazaar. Every little thing helps! I would like to remind you once again, how important it is to pay deposits on events where requested and give as much notice as possible if you have to cancel your attendance. The professionals and your fellow members who are arranging these events for you to enjoy, go to a lot of trouble to make sure you have a great experience, please show your appreciation and respect by turning up on time or advising of your absence in good time. This year ticket sales for the Bazaar will be online up to the event and at the venue on the day. We have a small amount of pre printed tickets for sale at the coffee morning, which need to be paid for on the day. It is extremely easy to buy online at ticketportal.bg or you can go in person to one of the many outlets selling them around the city, please visit ticketportal.bg for all the locations. Every year we are always looking for ways to make the bazaar more efficient. Online tickets are less time consuming, more secure and cheaper to produce, we also hope to have a wider audience than ever before, so please spread the news among your friends, family and colleagues! Lastly, I would like to remind you that 31st October is the last day to renew your annual membership, if you have not done so already. It is easy to register and pay online, or directly at the office. We will also be able to take some new memberships and renewals at the November coffee morning, please see Kelsa for more information. And remember, take some time to take in the beautiful colours, sights and sounds of these lovely autumn days, they will go by so quickly!
Angela
Good health to all!

Bulgaria’s National Revival Day
Bulgaria’s native culture is rich and ancient. The period known as the Bulgarian National Revival began in the 18th century and is divided into three stages: the early period, including the 18th century and the early part of the 19th century; the middle period, lasting from roughly the 1820s until the Crimean War, which ended in 1856; and the late period, dating from the Crimean War until Bulgaria’s liberation from the Ottoman Empire in 1878, as a result of the Russo-Turkish War.
On November 1, Bulgaria celebrates a national holiday to honor and remember those visionaries who did so much to establish a sense of national pride and to lay the foundation for Bulgarian liberation. The holiday was declared official in 1922, but was suspended in 1945 after Bulgaria came under Communist rule, as part of the former Soviet Union. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, celebration was resumed in 1990 and made official again in 1995.
During the Revival, a number of well-educated Bulgarians made a conscious effort to awaken feelings of pride and unity among their countrymen, in part because they felt that such feelings were necessary if Bulgaria were ever to regain its freedom. They did this by working to develop Bulgarian literature that would call to mind past glories and hopes for a better future. They worked to establish modern schools, and within a few decades, 1,500 primary schools were in operation throughout the country. This, in turn, allowed more young Bulgarians to further their educations at the great universities of Europe and Russia. Within a short while, the country had a welleducated elite, which took control of the arts and newspapers in Bulgaria.
Across Bulgaria, Leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival Day (sometimes called National Enlighteners Day ) is an occasion to pay tribute to all those committed to culture and education. It is traditionally a day to give awards to outstanding teachers, actors, and artists of all sorts. Since the 1930s, it has been a tradition in cities and towns throughout the country to hold parades honoring students and teachers. In the capital city of Sofia, the parade progresses beneath huge portraits of those leaders who nourished Bulgaria’s cultural rebirth. http://bulgaria-explorer.info

Charity update
Dreamup — Art for every child
DreamUP the international programme for education through art was launched in 2015 by Foundation BNP Paribas and reaches 30,000 underprivileged youngsters benefiting from it in 26 countries. The project will last 3 years with the purpose of encouraging and developing each child’s individual talent. BNP Paribas Foundation Chief Executive Jean-Jacques Goron points out:“It’s part of BNP Paribas Foundation policy to provide support to each project for at least three years. We believe that Corporate Philanthropy should take a long-term approach. It takes time to get to know the organisations, find the right ideas and set up the necessary procedures. This is about real partnership.” In Bulgaria, the International Women’s Club was chosen by Foundation BNP Paribas as its DREAMUP partner. During the first year of the programme 36 Bulgarian children from 4 to 16 years from 3 social homes for children participated in regular lessons revolving around drawing, pottery and dances. For the second year theater classes will be included in the programme followed later by other artistic activities. The aim of the programme is to allow children through practicing different art activities to explore and express themselves freely. In that way the children expand their understanding of themselves and others. The lessons during the first year encouraged them to use and develop their own creativity and imagination. Except gaining new skills, the children had great opportunity to perform in front of audience in several festivals and cultural activities such as the Annual Charity bazaar organized by IWC –Sofia (the most significant charity activity in Bulgaria with more than 8,000 visitors); “Different but equal” Festival under the patronage of Yordanka Fundukova, Mayor of Sofia Municipality and etc. Hans Broucke, Country Head and Chairman of the Management Board Foundation BNP Paribas Bulgaria, underlines: “Practicing an artistic discipline enables children and adolescents to become more aware of their own abilities. It’s an excellent way to help them make sense of the world around them and find their place in it. Theatre performance for instance gives them a chance to face the public and experience practical coexistence with others in a collective project that requires both personal involvement and respect for others if it is to succeed. Art is a wonderful means of personal development for these young people.” “The DREAMUP project provides a unique opportunity for children from social institutions to have the same access to variety of activities in the field of art and to enjoy their achievements, like their peers living in a family environment. DreamUp in Bulgaria observes a positive change among the children, especially in their desire to be on stage and present what they have learned so far”, says Maria Ilieva, IWC-Sofia and coordinator of the Dream UP project in Bulgaria. https://www.deposits.bnpparibas.bg/future/NewsPreview?newsId=6384511&locale=en_EN 6
Charity Bulgarian Festivals — 2016 Calendar July and update August Kofoed Schools for self-help creates furniture In 2016 The Foundation Kofoeds Schools for self-help — Bulgaria received a kind donation from the IWCSofia. Together with Kofoeds Skole — Denmark and the Danish textile company “Kvadrat” we were given the opportunity to create an art therapy project designed specifically for a group of young people with special needs. The project has been very successful and the students have produced their first furniture pieces made out of recycled plastic bottles, with the high quality fabrics from “Kvadrat”. The furniture was designed by the young talented artist Vladimira Krasteva, a student of the National Academy of Art, Sofia. We would like to express our deep gratitude to you all for the great support that has made this possible! Seeing the enthusiasm and the joy and light in the eyes of our students makes it all worth it. At the moment we are working on an exhibition together with the professional photographer from the Gallery Photo Synthesis, Bul. "Vasil Levski" 57, which will open on the 26 of November. Please see the membership news page for more details. THE EXIBITION “A Glimpse behind the surface”.

Charity Bazaar update
All things new at the 2016 Charity Bazaar!
Dear members, We just have one month left before the 22nd IWC Annual Charity Bazaar. I am sure that the ones who are volunteering in different stalls are already busy with the preparations and the ones who are planning to visit the bazaar are excited, counting the days left. For all of you, here you have the new things that you can find at the bazaar. Due to big demand from our public to extend the working hours, the IWC Charity Bazaar 2016 will take place from 10:30 until 19:00. We believe that with 2 more hours we will give the change to a bigger number of visitors to attend the event and to enjoy it in a more relaxed and pleasant way as people will not be concentrated at the same time frame during the entire day. Those who like to wake up later on a Sunday morning, will be still able to attend the event in the afternoon and enjoy the magic of the bazaar. The entry donation will be 4 lv for adults and 2 lv for pensioners, disabled people and children between 12 and 18 years. Entrance for children under 12 will be free, as usual. For those who would like to make a bigger donation, we have introduced a 40 lv entry donation called an All-inclusive Ticket, which gives the opportunity for the following: entering the bazaar at 9am for the VIP shopping prior to the official opening, access to the opening ceremony at 10am with a special guest of honor, enjoying a glass of sparkling wine and a very special gift bag, filled with surprises from the Sponsors of the Bazaar. The All-inclusive Ticket will offer bazaar guests a fast line throughout the day and avoiding queues at the entrance at the same time With queues being a problem in previous years, we have organized an online ticket sale through Ticket Portal. Please use the following link which will take you directly to the event page: 8
http://www.ticketportal.bg/podujatie_search.asp?id=43948&lang=BG Through this link, you can buy tickets online from the convenience of your home. You can print the ticket you bought or you can go to the event with the bar code to be checked at the door. Furthermore, for the convenience of people living outside of Sofia, tickets for the 2016 Charity Bazaar can be bought in different points of sale around Bulgaria. Tickets can be printed for you at all of these points. Here is the link where you can find this service:
http://ticketportal.bg/pmiesta.asp We believe that with Ticket Portal we will increase the sales of advance tickets and consequently reduce the queue at the entrance at the day of the Bazaar, as well as have the accurate statistics of people visiting the bazaar. For more information, please, contact Annamaria Giannakos at anna_giannakos@hotmail.com.
For the first time at the IWC Charity Bazaar, there will be an Open Air Christmas Market. It will be situated in the parking lot of the IEC. We believe that this new addition will be a great enrichment of the usual existing Bazaar set-up, since it will not only bring a special atmosphere to the event, but it will accommodate the needs of all types of visitors as well, like people who are keen for more food & entertainment set-ups, as well as for the smokers). At the outside Christmas Market, we will be selling hot food and drinks. There also will be a second stage with more music. Concert performances will be donated from several Bulgarian Musicians and singers, like Poli Genova, Sentimental Swingers, Del Padre latin music, Orlin Pavlov. We will announce the full program as soon as we have received full confirmation. I am sure that you remember the IWC Cookbook that we edit last year with recipes from all the countries participating at the bazaar. This year, you will be able to buy it again at the IWC Stall. As well, at our stall, you will find our new project — the IWC Passport, sponsored by Harley-Davidson and Notos Galleries.

Second Stall holder’s meeting
A warm welcome from the Polish Embassy
We would like to thank once again all the team of the Polish Embassy, and specially Mrs Aldona Krajewska for hosting the Second Stallholders Meeting and for her personal collaboration in the organization of the IWC Charity Bazaar for the second year. Everything was just perfectly organized! We received a very warm welcome from the whole team and they really made us feel at home throughout the entire event. Maria Ilieva, our Charity Chairperson, gave a presentation for all the stallholders about the projects which the IWC has been supporting in 2016. She also explained the application process for organizations applying to us for funds, as well as how the projects are supervised so that we can make sure that all the money goes toward a good use. The IWC-Sofia is very proud of all this process because it guarantees a maximum transparency of all procedures. The Charity Foundation of IWC is following the standards for accountability and openness by providing regular information on what is happening in the Foundation. This is achieved by the following: regular publications and updates of projects progress in the IWC newsletter; the Charity Projects and News sections on the IWC website, which is available as a public information tool and is available to anyone interested; by announcing and publishing financial statements; through giving presentations and conducting Charity Committee meetings. We had the opportunity to hear the personal testimony of some members of an organization supported by us, the Parents Association of Children with Onco-hematological diseases.
10
Teodora Vasileva and Simona Ivanova are just two of the mums who have children currently battling with cancer. They explained to us what the parents association does for their children and how it improves their quality of life, thanks to all the donations that they receive, not only from IWC but from other institutions. It was a very emotional presentation, that made us cry! We appreciate very much the support of all our donors, stallholders and volunteers, who work with a great effort to make it possible to raise a substantial amount of money through our main Charity Event — the annual IWC-Sofia Charity Bazaar. This year, at the 22nd IWC Charity Bazaar, we are planning to have up to 60 country stalls, compared to 50 last year! We are very happy to see that every year, more and more countries are committed to our cause. We all have the same goal — to raise money for the children who need our support. For a day, we are about to put aside our differences and political issues, and will embark on a challenge that will make us work on a common goal. We strongly believe that with your help we will be able to raise
500, 000 lv! Yes, it possible, let’s make it work together! HALF A MILLION LEVA FOR BULGARIA !!!! We look forward to seeing you at the 22nd IWC Charity Bazaar. Your contribution, whatever size, will make a big difference!
