HOW TO Charter a Yacht
New to yacht charters? Our expert team is on-hand to guide you through all the details and nuances of a vacation on a yacht. Our professional charter consultants are available to help you select the right yacht, plan your itinerary and help arrange all logistics before, during and after your trip.
Vacation dates
First things first, let your charter consultant know the specific dates that you are looking to book your vacation. We recommend that you have a few different dates in mind to ensure availability. You should take into consideration that holidays and “event” periods are often booked several months in advance. Certain yachts may require a 10-day minimum charter during these busy periods. It is customary to charter a yacht for the full week, but it is not obligatory.
Choosing your destination
A yacht charter can take you to some of the world’s most beautiful places. The Mediterranean is the most popular summer destination, especially during July and August. The Caribbean and the Bahamas are the most popular winter yachting hotspots. Your charter consultant can send over sample itineraries so you can understand how you will spend your time in your destination. The speed of your yacht, weather conditions, and marina availability will determine the specific locations and the number of ports you can visit. Our team will advise on any country’s restrictions or what visas and permits you need to charter around the world.
Your charter group
On most yachts, the maximum number of charter guests allowed by law is 12. If you require a yacht that can accommodate a larger party, our consultants will make sure to find you a selection of appropriate yachts. Keep in mind the cabin arrangements on board when deciding who to bring on your charter.
Payments and rates
Charter rates are quoted per week (trips spanning for more or less than seven days are calculated pro rata). Some yachts have high season rates that apply to the most popular charter periods and low season rates that apply to all other periods. Your charter commences at noon onwards on the first day and terminates by noon on the last day.
A fully bespoke experience
Every detail counts. Several weeks before you board your yacht, we will ask you to complete a detailed questionnaire describing the preferences and needs of all members of your charter group. This sheet will cover dietary preferences, medical requirements, allergies, favorite activities, sporting and entertainment requests.
Payment and confirmation
All charters are subject to a fully executed contract. Once the availability of your chosen yacht has been verified, you will receive a Charter Agreement (MYBA), with a request for a deposit to secure the booking. The Charter Agreement defines the terms and conditions, obligations, and rights of each party. A deposit of 50% of the total charter fee is required upon signature of the Charter Agreement in order to confirm your booking. The remaining 50%, plus an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), together with any VAT taxes, delivery/redelivery fees and any additionally agreed charges, is due one month before the charter commences.
What is included in the charter fee?
Charter rates include the yacht with crew service and all necessary equipment, properly insured for marine risks. Rates do not include VAT, provisioning, fuel charges, electronic communications, canal fees, harbor dues, local taxes, and specific marina fees. If embarkation and/or disembarkation takes place away from the yacht’s home port, delivery/return fees and expenses will also be charged. Crew gratuities are not obligatory, but it’s customary to leave a discretionary 10% to 20% of the total charter fee.
Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA)
The advanced provisioning allowance (APA) is the extra fee that you pay in advance to cover the cost of provisions and expenses for your charter. The APA is paid on top of the charter fee. An advanced provisioning allowance is similar to opening a petty cash account for your captain and chef. The APA covers all the day-to-day operating expenses for your yacht charter – everything from your food and fuel to port and customs fees. It also covers any special requirements or requests you might have while you’re on board. At the end of the charter, if there is any APA leftover, it will be
refunded back to you. Alternatively, the APA can be applied toward the crew gratuity.
Activities and fun
Your yacht is your personal playground. If you would like to relax and rest on a sun lounger or spend your days whizzing across the water on a jet ski, your yacht can cater to it all. Under the watchful eye of your crew, you can enjoy the full complement of toys on board – from wave runners to stand-up paddleboards and inflatable slides. To utilize the yacht’s scuba diving equipment, a certified PADI license or equivalent is necessary – our team can organize this for you if required.
Etiquette and onboard rules
When you meet your yacht, the captain will explain safety rules and procedures that are in place to protect you. Life on board a yacht has a few quirks – you’re not allowed to wear shoes to avoid damaging the teak decks, for example. Your charter consultant will advise you on yacht etiquette ahead of your trip, but it’s hugely important to listen to your crew and respect them while on board.

A Rising Tide
With Community Partnerships
Palm Beach Symphony
Moves Full Speed Ahead
Lifts All
Palm Beach Symphony and the acclaimed guest artists who come from around the world to perform with the orchestra and its celebrated maestro Gerard Schwarz are accustomed to taking center stage at the Kravis Center in Palm Beach. Behind the scenes, however, is a network of committed individuals and organizations who work together to support the Symphony and help create Palm Beach’s vibrant community.
Recognized by The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County with a 2020 Muse Award for Outstanding Community Engagement, the Symphony’s outreach events are often in support of community groups or foundations and allows the Symphony to reach beyond its concert venues to engage members of the community.
Primary among these is the Symphony’s partnership with IYC which began two years ago during a picture-perfect evening as guests mingled aboard the luxurious Yacht MOSAIQUE during a private dockside cocktail party. A member of the IYC global fleet, the beautiful MOSAIQUE was the highlight of the evening as guests toured the intimate, luxurious suites and appreciated the views from the spacious decks while enjoying music provided by the Symphony’s musicians.
“That event was created as a kickoff for our upcoming gala, but it also launched what would become a wonderful relationship with IYC and its members,” said Palm Beach Symphony CEO David McClymont.
“IYC has been an important partner in supporting our galas by donating spectacular cruises on its magnificent fleet as highly competitive auction prizes. IYC members are always responsive and delight guests at our concerts and events.”
Last year, IYC and the Symphony joined together to host the New York and Palm Beach Chapters of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) on the Ionian Princess Yacht. Just as YPO welcomes extraordinary leaders to grow stronger together, the Symphony is dedicated to collaboration and education.
Community outreach events are the cornerstone in reaching Palm Beach County’s broad, diverse population. The Symphony’s recent collaborations are with valued community partners that include the Related Group, Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, Downtown
Development Authority, West Palm Beach Arts and Entertainment District, Norton Museum of Art, Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens, Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, Braman Motors, Lugano Diamonds and Hospital for Special Surgery, among others.
Another important collaboration is with Sinclair Broadcast Group which not only airs the Palm Beach Symphony’s annual holiday concert Sounds of the Season on its digital and streaming platforms, but Sinclair has also undertaken a “Play it Forward” campaign on its West Palm Beach affiliate CBS 12 News to support the Symphony’s instrument donation programs. The Symphony accepts donations of instruments as well as monetary donations to purchase and cover costs for needed instrument repairs before distributing them to students and music programs.
Other than on the stage, perhaps nowhere is the Symphony’s impact more pronounced than in the classroom. Palm Beach Symphony reached 7,943 K-12 students during the 20212022 school year with innovative programs presented at no charge to the schools or students. Musicians mentored students enrolled in orchestra and band classes, and they also performed for student audiences schoolwide in Pre-K through 12th grade across Palm Beach County.
Beginning this season, the Symphony has begun to nurture the audiences of tomorrow with nationally televised broadcasts of The Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series. The broadcasts began with Eudora’s Fable: The Shoe Bird, an adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Eudora Welty’s only children’s book, The Shoe Bird The next concert has been filmed and is being prepared for broadcast with Maestro Gerard Schwarz and narrator Jon Secada performing a newly crafted reimagining of Sergei Prokofiev’s musical masterpiece in The Adventures of Peter and the Wolf featuring both English and Spanish-language versions.
“Of course, artistic collaboration is the lifeblood of the Symphony,” McClymont says. “This season we will present the world premiere of the first of five works we have commissioned from American composers. It is part of our ambitious 49th season in which we will collaborate with among the greatest musicians performing today.”
After beginning its season with violinist Sarah Chang, pianist Garrick Ohlsson and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, the Symphony will premiere the new work by Pulitzer Prize-winner Joseph Schwantner on March 14 during a concert with piano virtuoso Misha Dichter, who performs Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F Collaboration continues April 16 when Joshua Bell, one of the most important violinists today, adds a cadenza he composed himself to Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor The season culminates with guest artist Maria João Pires performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 and the Symphony’s Principal Trombone and Latin GRAMMY®-winner Domingo Pagliuca performing the Florida premiere of Hailstork’s Monuments for solo trombone and string orchestra.
Following a record-breaking season with record-breaking concert box office sales and sold out social events, the Symphony has also expanded its social calendar beyond the Annual Holly Jolly Symphony Fête and the Annual Anniversary Gala to include receptions for members of the Impresario Society, a valued group of patrons who are the Symphony’s major contributors and event sponsors.
“While we are known for our performances of the great masterpieces and important orchestral works, perhaps our theme song should be With a Little Help From My Friends, since partners such as IYC enable us to perform at the highest level and give back to the community is such an impactful way,” McClymont said.

Embarking with Furry Friends
A YACHT CHARTER GUIDEA yacht charter is one of the best opportunities to spend quality time with your friends and family. And for many of us, this includes our beloved pets. Happily, thanks to relaxed international regulations, it has become much easier to travel with the four-legged members of your household in recent years and yachting is no different.
Many yachts have historically been reluctant to welcome pets on board for fear of damage to the incredible vessels and customs complications. However, obedient furry friends (and their rule-abiding owners) are allowed on over 100 vessels in IYC’s fleet.
Just as first-time charter guests will learn about the nuances and safety regulations of life on a yacht – no high-heeled shoes on the deck, for example – it’s vital that any four-legged friends behave while on board. At the minimum, pets should be toilet trained, friendly and accustomed to being on a leash before they start their charter journey.
PETS ON BOARD: WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
As with people, pets need to have documentation to travel around the world. Permits, passports and veterinary certificates may be required ahead of a charter and it’s important to understand what your furry friend needs before embarking on a trip.
To safeguard against the spread of disease, a
European pet passport requires blood tests and proof of up-to-date vaccinations. In the Caribbean, pet permits need to be issued in advance of arrival and The United States requires a rabies certificate for any foreign pets visiting its shores. Some destinations (such as the British Virgin Islands) will have a vet examine your pet upon arrival at the port. Australia is one of the strictest places to visit with a pet, as well as providing vaccinations and veterinary certificates, all animals will need to be quarantined upon arrival.
In addition to all the relevant paperwork for traveling with your pet, it is recommended that you bring medication and emergency supplies – just in case. Pet-friendly accessories such as portable potties are a good idea to make life easier for you, your pet and the crew. And for ultimate peace of mind, we would also suggest purchasing an appropriately sized life jacket and GPS tracker for your furry friend.
Traveling to sunny climes is one of the most attractive features of a yacht charter. However, it is important to think about the health and comfort of your pet in warmer weather. Although they can relax and sit in the air-conditioned comfort of the yacht’s interior, it’s well worth considering that some destinations in the heat of the summer (such as Greece or Turkey) may not be the best option for you and your charter group if you have a pet on board. Remember that dogs can suffer from heat stroke and sunburn, so it’s important to keep them hydrated and cool while on board.
Finally, if possible, make sure your pet will adjust well to life at sea ahead of time. Your charter experience may be marred if your dog is worried or stressed out by life on a vessel. Ensure that they have some experience on the water (even if it’s just a lake or river) so staying on a yacht is an easy transition.
Your IYC charter manager will be equipped with all the knowledge and necessary information you need to travel with your pet. If you’re planning to bring your four-legged family member on the trip, make sure to let us know ahead of time to ensure a smooth process for all.
SPOTLIGHT ON IYC PET-FRIENDLY YACHTS
Well-behaved pets are welcome on board many of our charter yachts. When selecting a vessel for your vacation, make sure to consider your pet in the process. Yachts with large decks and outdoor spaces, a swim platform and ample shaded spots will be the best choice for the comfort, fun and safety of your furry friend.
Libra Y can comfortably accommodate 10 guests in five cabins, including a stand-out master suite with enough space for you and your pet to enjoy. Her beautiful exterior offers extensive deck spaces, which make her an ideal choice for a charter with a dog. Plus, her solid bulwarks offer an additional layer of safety and peace of mind for any concerned owner.
Rebecca V is another of IYC’s pet-friendly vessels and is available to charter in Croatia and Montenegro. Presented in immaculate condition, her appealing features for pets and their owners include a full-beam extended swim platform for easy access to the sea and a partially shaded sundeck with oversized sun pads.
Next time you’re booking your charter, indulge your pet on the trip of a lifetime and bring them to some of your favorite yachting destinations. Contact the IYC team to start planning your pet-friendly charter today.
Spotlight On Design
AWARD-WINNING IYC CHARTER YACHTS
by Susan KimeGreat design, it is said, is intelligence made visible – it is particularly true with yacht design.
Before yearly yacht design awards are given, IYC’s charters and yacht sales are usually in the running, as it has the largest fleet of charter yachts worldwide, with over 130 vessels around the world, managed by 15 offices.
Many yachts chartered or sold by IYC have been nominated for Boat International’s World Superyacht Awards that recognise the design craftsmanship of luxury yachts - 2022 in particular was a banner year.
IYC’s winners and nominees deserve such accolades, as they all define intelligent, memorable design.
KOJU
The Benetti-built KOJU, managed by IYC, is available for charter through The Bahamas and the Caribbean, beginning in Summer 2022. KOJU earned two awards at the 2022 Boat International Design and Innovation awards, winning Outstanding Exterior Design, Motor Yachts 24m to 39.9m and Best New Series.
KOJU forms part of Benetti’s new Motopanfilo 37M series, and 121’4” KOJU is the first yacht in the series. It is a contemporary reinterpretation of the yachting tradition and lifestyle of the 1960s. Prince Rainier III of Monaco as well as David Bowie, rockstar of the 1960s -70s, owned yachts like this, built by Benetti.
Benetti is the Italian ship and boat building company, whose yachts in this series are defined as “Yachts Suspended in Time.” KOJU has won multiple awards for its exceptional design, combining 1960’s La Dolce Vita style with 2022 mechanics and engineering.
This melding of past and present was the result of the Rome-based interior designers Lazzarini Pickering, who created the KOJU interiors that combined these essences. They created nautical elements of an earlier era – bronze detailing, mirrored surfaces, with light fixtures shaped like traditional portlights. The salon itself is a panoply of curves – sofas, chairs, tables, all representing a gentle malleability, reminiscent of years past.
Such an ease was enhanced by a nautical color scheme of white and navy, with abundant use of wood, lighter with a matte finish. Finally, the Loro Piana Interiors fabrics, applied on sofas, rugs, both indoor and out, allows the blended motif to continue in the familiar present, but, with nuanced hints of the past emerging throughout.
XANA
The IYC yacht XANA won the 2022 Boat International award in the Rebuilt Yachts’ category, a result of her 36-month refit during 2018-2021.
XANA is a 45M motor yacht built in Italy by Codecasa and designed by AMK Architecture & Design, who also designed the interior. With a teak deck, a steel hull, and aluminum superstructure, as well as a major refit program including a five-meter extension of the stern, XANA’s length was increased to 45M overall. Such lengthening allowed for the addition of a tender garage and swim platform. Also, the sundeck now has fresh teak, as well as enhanced al fresco dining and lounge spaces, a drinks bar and a Jacuzzi, all with views out to sea.
XANA’s refreshed interiors include new furnishings whose color scheme is a neutral palette, colors in shades of white and taupe combined with earthy browns and greys.
MOSKITO
Nominated by Boat International within the Displacement Motor Yachts, 500GT to 999 GT, a category fit perfectly by MOSKITO, which is available for charter with IYC.
The MOSKITO is a 55m Steel yacht, with exterior design by Omega Architects. The innovative use of glass throughout includes the full beam sky lounge and main salon. Both provide the clarity of natural light through the flow of yachtto-sea vistas. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors lead to outdoor seating, dining and relaxation areas, providing a harmonious connection between inside and out.
At the heart of the yacht design is the owner’s 82-square-meter stateroom on the main deck.
Elsewhere, ten guests may be accommodated across five staterooms – all with en-suite facilities. In addition, there is a sun deck, and a dedicated wellness area is accessible via the beach club. Finally, a full beam sky lounge is on the wheelhouse deck and leads out to the seating and dining area.
The yacht interior was created by the British studio design group Bannenberg & Rowell. Smoked Oak chevron parquet flooring, white Thassos, grey St. Laurent and ivory Travertine marble emerge throughout, all with occasional warm bronze accents. These subtle contrasts underscore the intelligent workmanship gravitas-laden design.
SEVANNA
Built in 2021, the 80M luxury yacht SEVANNA (ex TATIANA) is a unique displacement vessel that was also nominated for Boat International Awards in 2022, and was recently sold by IYC. Built by Bilgin, the interior design features Macassar ebony, a light eucalyptus and an extensive use of marble. The yacht’s interior lines are further defined by contrasting combinations of backlit marble and images of 3D carved stone.
Sleeping 12 guests in eight cabins, including an ensuite master on the dedicated owner’s deck, SEVANNA (ex TATIANA) also accommodates a crew of 20.
An outstanding feature of SEVANNA (ex TATIANA)is the outdoor and indoor deck areas, including a sun deck with a dining area and a Jacuzzi. Other outdoor features include a transom and beach club area with a selection of water toys: Scout towables, water skis, a sea bob, wakeboards, kayaks, inflatable water toys and snorkeling equipment. The helipad is yet another feature. SEVANNA (ex TATIANA) is also equipped with a movie theatre, elevator and gym.
Finally, SEVANNA (ex TATIANA) also comes complete with a private office on the bridge deck and a sky lounge which is themed as a sports bar.
All four exceptional vessels, either available for charter or recently sold by IYC, define a type of yacht design excellence understandably rewarded by many, but also highlight IYC’s understanding of the vacationing needs and wants of the chartering and buying public, what they want and need right now and in the distant future.
A Moveable Feast
Whether feasting on epicurean delights during an evening of gastronomy or celebrating a large catch of the day with an afternoon barbecue on the sun deck, the world of extraordinary cuisine aboard a superyacht is a unique dining experience unlike any other.
Words by Julia ZaltzmanAboard a superyacht, exceptional dishes delivered to world-class standards is customary, as is a nod to local delicacies, the freshest ingredients and quality produce. When bespoke requests are put in the hands of Michelin-level chefs, the opportunities are limitless.
For most guests, the food served on board a yacht is a tantalizing treat on which an itinerary pivots. Waking to the aroma of freshly baked bread signals the start of the day, with buffet breakfasts bulging with sourdough, croissants, fresh fruits, parfaits, pastries, breads and cheese. For the fitness enthusiasts, a superfood smoothie. For the ravenous, a bottomless flow of eggs, bacon and sausages. Like all elements of a yacht charter, guests dictate the style and volume, with chefs attuning their menu and cuisine to guest preferences.
From wine flights in the French Riviera to cheese tasting in the backstreets of Sardinia, a luxury superyacht charter is a food lover’s paradise. And that extends to guests’ experience away from the yacht as well. Deserted islands in the Caribbean and sandbanks in The Bahamas play into the hands of superyacht chefs who bring their culinary skills ashore. The quintessential beach barbecue or picnic forms the backbone of any charter and is an experience not to be missed.
Held every year at the MYBA Charter Show, hosted in Barcelona’s superyacht hub Marina Port Vell, the MYBA Superyacht Chefs' Competition is where the industry’s finest battle it out to be crowned top chef. The event returned in 2022 to great applause following a two-year hiatus and welcomed some of the best motoryachts and sailing superyachts available on the charter market. Tasked with the theme “Mediterranean Beach Picnic”, a total of nine yachts took part
– spread across four days and three size categories – including the 151'/46.02m Delta Marine PISCES, a popular charter yacht available with IYC.
The rules required all ingredients to be prepped and cooked aboard the yachts, before being transported ashore where the dishes were decorated, plated and presented to a panel of expert judges within a 30-minute timeframe. A Crew Signature Beach Cocktail competition ran in parallel. PISCES’ chef Anthony Fossani and stewardess Leah Efrimov took home the win for both food and cocktail in the 42- to 47-meter (138- to 155-foot) yacht category.
Fresh from an extensive 2021 refit, Pisces is a popular family yacht available to charter in the Mediterranean during the summer season. Fossani reflects the region in his choice of fresh ingredients and highly creative collection of epicurean creations.
One mainstay that rings true across the board – and throughout breakfast, lunch and dinner – is that superyacht charters offer a unique dining experience that is unlike any other. Exotic produce may be plucked from morning markets and served to guests as the Greek sun sets in the distance. When cruising the Amalfi Coast, a gourmet menu of veal scallopini – a classic Italian dish – might be served with fresh Caprese salad to highlight the region’s outstanding mozzarella, tomatoes and sweet basil, accompanied by the purest extra virgin olive oil.
My dad was a fisherman and we always cooked, which sparked my early interest in food. I used to go mushroom hunting, and it remains one of my best childhood memories, just the smell and the freshness of the produce.
His cooking is informed by his childhood memories growing up in New Jersey. “My dad was a fisherman and we always cooked, which sparked my early interest in food,” he says. “I used to go mushroom hunting, and it remains one of my best childhood memories, just the smell and the freshness of the produce.”
He pursued cooking as a profession, first training at the Culinary Institute of America and then working in Michelin-starred restaurants. He found his way into yachting 13 years ago, jumping between boat and land before landing his current role aboard Pisces in 2021. Fossani’s cuisine is varied with a hint of fusion – “I don’t like to put a label on it” – though his favorite ingredient to work with is seafood.
“I worked in a Mexican restaurant in San Diego, French kitchens in New York and then I went to Japan to learn about the culture and cuisines, so I offer our charter guests a varied menu” he says.
Last summer the yacht cruised the French Riviera, picking up charters in Monaco. For the winter season it’s based in the Caribbean, where Creole-inspired delights will be on offer. “The boat has a walk-in fridge and plenty of storage space, so we always have lots of ingredients to be able to accommodate everyone’s requests,” he enthuses.
For the MYBA chef competition, Fossani brought great creativity to the table, dreaming up five small plates to excite the palette. “I wanted it to reflect the fun you might have on a picnic, so I had a playlist to accompany the tasting, and I wore sunglasses and just had fun with it. I presented the dishes in trays and introduced all kinds of colors, flavors and textures.”
Cooking for 17 hours straight, Fossani produced an assortment of almond mint, charred octopus, seared Ikejime tuna, Galician blonde carpaccio and Mediterranean lemon were brought together in a collection of delicious dishes artfully presented in a mosaic ceramic bowl. It was accompanied by Efrimov’s Pisces Peach Sour cocktail, vodka infused with citrus fruits, including grapefruit, lemon, lime and orange, and sweetened with a jasmine flower syrup.
Dreaming up inventive dishes is, for Fossani, a challenge that he relishes. Across the yachting industry, charters incorporate a never-ending tail of gastronomic highs, from lobster rolls in Maine to dolmas in Greece. It’s a taste sensation wherever you sail.
I worked in a Mexican restaurant in San Diego, French kitchens in New York and then I went to Japan to learn about the culture and cuisines, so I offer our charter guests a varied menu.
THE PAST INFORMS THE PRESENT: THEN AND NOW AT THE GRAND PRIX DE MONACO
by Susan KimeRace car and high-end yacht owners may seem to be two distinct groups with passions in disparate areas: one, attracted to the seduction of the sea, the other to high speeds on the racetrack. But once a year, at the Monaco Grand Prix, these ultra-high-net-worths’ dissimilar passions merge as the yachties observe the racing from their sun deck and automotive’s glitterati attend the Monaco yacht parties and events.
The backstory of the Monaco Grand Prix, begun on April 14, 1929, was organized by Monégasque tobacco magnate Antony Noghè, under guidance of the Automobile Club de Monaco. The 1929 race was won by William Grover-Williams driving a Bugatti and won the dazzling prize of 100,000 francs. Today, there is no prize money specifically, but the top 10 in the final F1 standings receive a substantial amount of money for a sport that's expected to top $2 billion in revenue this season.
It has been known for years that one of the best viewing locations for seeing the Monaco Grand Prix is in Monaco’s Port Hercules aboard a luxury yacht. There, yachts are blessed with a trackside view, as the race moves in a serpentine circuit along Monaco’s waterfront and harbor.
Since 1929, the race is held on a narrow course, laid out in the streets of Monaco with many elevation changes and tight corners as well as a tunnel, making it one of the most demanding tracks in Formula One. Despite the relatively low average speeds, then as now, the Monaco
circuit is hazardous, due to its narrow, winding track. Also, it is still the only Grand Prix that does not adhere to the FIA's (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) mandated 305-kilometer (190-mile) minimum race distance for F1 races. Nonetheless, it is widely considered to be one of the most important, prestigious and treacherous automobile races in the world.
What fascinates is the unique balance between yacht and automobile, from past to present. The designs of the Monaco Grand Prix automobile have changed, but so too has the distance between race car driver and yacht onlooker. In the 1930s, many yachts did not come close to the retaining wall and Grand Prix track. Back then, yachts guests could still see the Bugatti’s, Alfas and Ferraris as they raced the track, but kept a respectable distance in harbor. This distancing perhaps allowed the guests to see what they wished, without the ever-present Formula I engine noise and crowd clamor at the Grand Prix track.
As time went on though, one can see from the images that each year, the yachts and their owners and charterers, became more fearless, as the Monaco Grand Prix became more popular and hazardous. In the 1970s and ‘80s, yachts moved closer to the track. Today, the yachts berth in Port Hercules, overlooking the track. Much of the race takes place on the waterfront, which means chartering a yacht guarantees an enviable front-row experience.
IYC has had, for years, a strong presence in Monaco and several pedigree IYC vessels were seen during the week of the 2022 Grand Prix. Living up to its name is 179'6" (54.7m) RARE FIND, a custom-built yacht designed by the famed Dubois Naval Architects. A very successful charter vessel, she benefits from multiple exterior areas that are ideal for entertaining large groups. Able to welcome 12 guests on board, her crew of 12 promises an exceptional charter experience.
A flagship IYC charter yacht, 181'1" (55.2m) GECO was delivered in June 2020 and has proven to be one of the most popular vessels in the IYC fleet. Her features include an outdoor cinema, expansive beach club and Buddha Bar lounge area. Furthermore, arriving on board GECO could not be more elegant, thanks to her touch-and-go helipad.
Also for charter is 205'5" (62.6m) LUCKY LADY, a rich and elegant yacht from Oceanco. A perfect vessel for sommeliers and wine enthusiasts, her main salon bar features a custommade floor-to-ceiling wine fridge crafted from precious quartz. Additional highlights include a private owner's balcony, and an upper deck complete with a Jacuzzi and a lounge area with panoramic views – ideal for watching the Grand Prix race cars dash by. Not surprisingly, the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix tickets are already on sale.
It remains fascinating that such an historic race appeals to yacht owners and charter guests. The passions, toward the sea and toward speed, appear to mingle for a short time, making past and present become a force of nature, as the sailing thoroughfare and racing concrete thoroughfare become one.

The culture of Monte Carlo has been heavily influenced by its proud maritime heritage and the principality’s colorful royals. Under the ruling Grimaldi family, arts and culture have flourished in Monte Carlo with many art exhibitions, operas, and ballet performances throughout the year. When traveling by luxury yacht, the sheer number of islands in the Cyclades guarantees an idyllic and secluded anchorage even in peak season.

NAXOS
The largest and greenest island in the Cyclades, the natural beauty of Naxos has a mesmerizing allure that keeps visitors coming back year after year. Naxos offers a mountainous landscape, historical monuments, seemingly endless beaches, and a leisurely pace of life. Greece's calm, warm waters are always beautiful, but there is something extra special about exploring this area on board a yacht. As you drop anchor in hidden coves or explore the deserted cays on your tender, you and your loved ones will appreciate the enduring beauty of Naxos.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Naxos is blessed with warm, Mediterranean weather throughout the year. The hottest (and most popular) months are from May through to September.
KEY CRUISING AREAS
Naxos is a sailing destination in itself, with many beaches and coves to discover. Moutsouna and Panormos are beautiful bays to drop anchor and take a dip in the tranquil sea while the Port of Naxos is a safe marina to stay for a few days and explore the island by foot.
DON’T MISS
Grab your walking shoes and hike to the top of Mount Zas, the mountain where the legend says Zeus was born and raised. The combination of Croatia’s cultural history and amazing beauty – which includes eight breathtaking national parks, 11 stunning nature reserves, and numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites, makes it a must-visit country. The thousands of islands that scatter the coastline of Croatia are best explored on board a luxury yacht. There is so much in Croatia waiting to be discovered. Set sail for your dream journey and get ready for a trip of a lifetime.
DAY 1
SPLIT - HVAR - PAKLENI ISLANDS
Start your journey by exploring the charming town of Split, one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Join your yacht and set sail to the island of Hvar – officially the sunniest place in Croatia! Hvar has garnered a reputation in the past few years for its party atmosphere, so is the perfect place to start your charter with a bang. However, there is a slower pace of life to be found here, with lavender fields blanketing the hillsides in stunning purple flowers throughout the year. Take a tender and cruise the string of Pakleni Islands (also known as the Resin Islands) for a romantic sailing experience before dinner in the old town.
DAY 3 LASTOVO
Wake up on the wonderful island of Lastovo. One of its most interesting characteristics is its strange association with the number 46: there are 46 small islands, it has 46 churches, 46 hills, and 46 fruit farms, olive groves, and vineyards. Casually stroll around the island before taking a dip in Ropa, a natural turquoise pool in the Zaklopatica bay before enjoying one of the island’s fresh seafood restaurants.
DAY 2
VIS - BUDIKOVAC
Vis is a popular destination thanks to its appearance in the Mamma Mia 2 film, but it’s also one of the Adriatic’s most beautiful spots. The mesmerizing Blue Cave is located on the island of Bisevo and is best reached by tender. Enjoy lunch on board and travel to the tiny uninhabited Island of Budikovac. Here, you can escape from the city noise and crowded streets, and enjoy life surrounded by beautiful waters.
DAY 4 KORCULA
Sail to Korcula and explore the beautiful homeland of famed explorer Marco Polo. Often voted Croatia’s most romantic islands, the Old Town is well worth a visit to learn about the unique past of the settlement – its striking appearance is thanks to its association with the Republic of Venice from the 14th to the 16th century. For wine connoisseurs, the island’s most famous tipple is Posip and there are multiple vineyards to enjoy throughout your day. Return to your yacht for a delicious meal on board and take in the beauty of your cruising grounds from the deck.

ST VINCENT & THE GRENADINES
The islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines are known as sailing destinations and could have been designed for cruising. Following a sweeping southeasterly curve through the Caribbean Sea, the islands offer exclusive private locations, volcanic landscapes and stunning reefs for snorkeling and diving. Although the islands only total 150 square miles, with many idyllic white-sand beaches, lush rainforest and colorful reefs to explore, why not take a seven-day charter yacht to let yourself relax and enjoy the journey on ‘Island Time’?
DAY 1
GRENADA, HOG ISLAND
Arrive in Grenada and head straight to meet your yacht. Settle in as you sail to Hog Island. Enjoy a late afternoon swim or a beach stroll to shake off any jet lag. As the sun begins to set, gather on the top deck for cocktails and a delicious meal to welcome you on board.
DAY 2 GRENADA
Head back to the shores of Grenada for a driving tour of the island. Your first stop will be at Annandale Falls, where crystal-clear mountain water cascades into a pool just perfect for a dip. Then further up the western road to the Dougaldston Spice Estate, a historic plantation that still grows and processes spices the old-fashioned way. Here you will find cocoa, nutmeg, mace, and cloves. Return to your yacht for cocktails and dinner.
DAY 3 CARRIACOU
After breakfast, the yacht will depart and cruise around the west coast of Grenada. Make sure to be on deck as you meander past St. Georges Harbor, without a doubt the most picturesque port town in the Caribbean. Soaking up some of the sun’s rays, you gently motor past the lush mountains of Grenada on your way to Carriacou. PSV is home to a very small, ultra-private resort of the same name, a beautiful beach, and an amazing restaurant.
DAY 7 CANOUAN
Your final destination is Canouan. Virtually undiscovered, Canouan Island hides one of the largest coral reefs in the world. White beaches welcome you and whether you stay in one of the world’s most exclusive resorts –the Mandarin Oriental – or on board your yacht, you will be seduced by the beauty of the island and tastefully designed villas.
DAY 6 TOBAGO CAYS
A small group of deserted islands, the Tobago Cays are completely protected by Horseshoe Reef. The surrounding reef and waters are a kaleidoscope of gold, brown, blue, turquoise, and green. Strong swimmers can just snorkel between the four islands, but less experienced children would be better off being dropped on one of the cays by tender. The crew will set up a beach barbecue on Baradel Cay, so guests can soak up the beautiful weather and have fun in the sun for the day.
CANOUAN
Just three-square-miles in size, Canouan is a true hidden gem in the Caribbean. The scenery is breathtaking, with turquoise waters and lush green landscapes that have been largely protected against development and mass tourism. Canouan is the Carib word for ‘island of turtles’ and exemplifies the rich marine life that is found in this magical place.
BEST LOCAL DISH
Fresh seafood is a must-try when you're on the island. Conch, lobster and fish ceviche are local specialties, best washed down with a glass of rum punch.
LOCAL CULTURE
Much quieter than many of the Caribbean islands, Canouan’s residents are primarily fishermen. The island is renowned for its beaches and natural beauty, with the development of a private runway and marinas just a few years ago. Visitors can expect ramshackle beach bars, unpaved roads and a serene pace of life when they arrive.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
As with much of the Caribbean and the Bahamas, Canouan is best visited between November and April.
KEY CRUISING AREAS
You can spend days exploring the coves, reefs and bays of Canouan, with many places to snorkel and dive. If you feel like venturing a little further, Tobago Cays are just a short sail away. Soak in the relaxed atmosphere of the island as you wander along the beautiful beaches before joining your yacht for dinner.

Savor your final evening on board with dinner under the stars.
