HOW TO CHARTER A YACHT
P
lanning your own luxury private yacht trip might seem complicated or intimidating. Worry not! For this exact reason, with only one phone call our professional charter consultants are available to help you select the
Select your dates When planning your trip, let your charter consultant know the specific dates that you are looking to book your vacation. We recommend that you make your reservations in advance and that you have a few different dates in mind to ensure availability. You should keep into consideration that holidays and “event periods are usually in high demand and are often booked several months in advance. Certain yachts may require a 10 day minimum charter during these busy periods.
Choose your Destination Let your charter consultant know the locations that you would like to visit. The Mediterranean is the most popular summer destination, especially during July and August, but you may also enjoy visiting New England, the South Pacific or Alaska. The Caribbean and the Bahamas are also popular destinations but their high season is Christmas through Easter. Yachts in this magazine are categorized per destination, but most yachts are available for charter in the wider area. The speed of your yacht, weather conditions and availability in a particular marina are all factors that will determine the specific locations and number of ports you can visit during your trip. Entering certain countries may be restricted by the yacht flag or its size. Also, make sure that you have the appropriate visa permits to enter the countries you intend to visit.
Number of people in your party On most yachts, the maximum number of charter guests allowed by law is 12. If you require a yacht that can accommodate a larger party, our consultants will make sure to find you a selection of yachts that are appropriately registered with a larger guest capacity. You should also take into consideration the number of separate cabins and beds available.

right yacht, plan your itinerary and help arrange all logistics before, during and after your trip. Our aim is to make this process seamless and ensure you have the best experience.
Calculating Charter Rates Charter rates are quoted per week. Charters, spanning for more or less than seven days are calculated prorata against the weekly rate (divided by seven or six respectively and multiplied by the number of charter days). Charters commence from noon onwards on the first day and terminate by noon on the last day. Some yachts have high season rates that apply to the most popular charter periods and low season rates that apply to all other periods.
What is included within the charter rate? Charter rates include the yacht with crew service and all necessary equipment, properly insured for marine risks. Rates do not include VAT, provisioning, fuel charges, electronic communications, canal fees, harbor dues, local taxes and specific marina fees. If embarkation and/or disembarkation take place away from the yacht’s home port, delivery/return fees and expenses will also be charged. Crew gratuities are not obligatory, but it’s customary to leave 10% to 20% of the total charter fee, upon discretion and based on satisfaction. The best way to ensure that all crew members receive equal recognition is to entrust the distribution of gratuities to the captain or charter consultant.
What do I need to do to secure my chosen yacht? All charters are subject to a fully executed contract. Once the availability of your chosen yacht has been verified, you will receive a Charter Agreement (MYBA), with a request for a deposit to secure the booking. The Charter Agreement defines the terms and conditions, obligations and rights of each party. A deposit of 50% of the total charter fee is required upon signature of the Charter Agreement in order to confirm your booking. The remaining 50%, plus an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), together with any VAT taxes, delivery/redelivery fees and any additionally agreed charges, is due one month before the charter commences.

Amalfi Coast, Italy
S
outhwestern Italy’s Amalfi Coast has both a storied past and a spectacular present. The coastline grew up along with the fishing trade, which brought a traditional way of life to the harbors that carve into the lush hillsides from the Mediterranean Sea. Many of the people who live in this part of the world have held dear to their customs while luxury resorts, restaurants and boutiques have grown all around them. The Amalfi Coast offers secluded harbours, crystalline waters and sheltered bays; the combination of old and new is both rare and precious, and is not to be missed.

A good place to begin or end an Amalfi Coast charter is the city of Naples, the birthplace of pizza and home to Europe’s largest remaining historic city center. The isle of Capri, right off the Amalfi coast, is a must spot to visit. Enjoy a relaxing evening nestled under the beautiful cliffs, near the home of famous Russian author Maxim Gorki. Visit the famous Blue Grotto and navigate around the narrow dark caves with the marvellous turquoise waters, illuminated by shafts of light. You can enter the port of Marina Grande, if available. An evening ride up to the hilltop village in the old
CAPRI, ITALY
‘Funicular’ rewards with breath-taking scenery and pleasant strolls through the white painted medieval streets. Enjoy a delicious dinner at Aurora, a Michelin star restaurant with a long family tradition. Positano, with its gorgeous multi-coloured houses hewn into the vertiginous coastline, is another picturesque location ideal for a walk among its exclusive boutiques and beautiful surroundings. If you enjoy discovering local artisan products look out for the handmade Positano leather sandals. A quieter destination, where you can enjoy the peace
and solitude in beautiful surrounding, can be found in the Pontine Islands of Ponza, Palmarola and Ventoten. Palmarola has beautiful bays and rock formations for swimming and exploring by tender and is ideal for watersports. The old town of Amalfi is well worth exploring. The spectacular Cathedral of Saint Andrews, known for its Paradise cloisters, should not be missed. Make sure to have coffee and cake at the famous bar opposite the cathedral. The Amalfi coast is simply one of the most captivating places to discover by sea.

The island has impressive beaches with black, red or white sand and two little islands, Thirasia and Aspro, which are part of a volcanic crater that has been engulfed by the sea. Enjoy the sunset at Franco’s bar in Fira while listening to classical music and venture to taverna “Metaxi mas” in the village Exo Gonia, undoubtedly one of the best restaurants on the island.

most unique yacht charter destination, the Norwegian Fjords boast some of the world’s most captivating landscapes: from mountainous coastal lakes and rivers to vast forests thriving with flora and fauna. Carved by giant glaciers over the period of forty ice ages, the fjords are home to seals and porpoises while salmon swim below and wild eagles soar above. The warming effects of the Gulf Stream have bathed the Fjords with a mild enough climate for apples and apricots to grow wild, whilst the waters remain almost always free from ice. Experience the ethereal phenomenon of the Northern Lights from the luxury of your private yacht deck, and marvel at the gradual shift in topography from lush green plains to snow-capped mountain tops as you drift majestically along these virtually tide-free waters. The colourful city of Bergen, also described as the “gateway to the fjords” is a good place to begin your

With its characteristic “S” shape, majestic, snow- covered mountain peaks, wild waterfalls and lush, green vegetation, the fjord landscape is included on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites and is considered as one of the most picturesque cruises in the world. Flåm is a traditional fjord village positioned in the inner end of the Aurlandsfjorden the world’s deepest and second-longest fjord. It is surrounded by steep mountains, thundering waterfalls and narrow valleys. Take the Flåm railway, voted one of the most beautiful train rides and venture onto the mountains and enjoy a panoramic view of some of the wildest and most magnificent nature in the Norwegian fjord landscape.

enjoy a “blue hole” dive. At Highbourne Cay, offers a beautiful view and is certainly worth taking a hike to the Spring. Allan’s Cay has a beach full of iguanas that feed from your hand. The Exumas archipelago is a shallow cruising ground with depths that allow for private yachts but exclude cruise ships. The ambiance is therefore pristine and quiet, and many charter yachts have secluded white beaches all to themselves.
Highlights in the Exumas include Big Major, where the resident pig Emily wades into the surf to welcome visitors arriving by tender, and Thunderball Grotto, where the James Bond movie “Thunderball” was filmed. You can still snorkel through the cave in which Sean Connery’s Agent 007 hid until he was airlifted to safety. St. Barths, Caribbean
GUSTAVIA, ST. BARTHS
W
ith its gleaming white sand beaches and shimmering azure waters, verdant rainforest and year-round sunshine, the French Caribbean is a yachting idyll with something to delight explorers of all ages. It comprises of the islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe – the larger of the islands with their own outlying islets – and the smaller islands of Saint Barths and Saint Martin. This collection of islands is an ecological marvel, most fully appreciated by sea. With calm lagoons and schools of tropical fish dancing beneath the surface, this is a divers’ and snorkelers’ paradise. Saint Barth’s is where the South of France meets the Caribbean. Its capital, Gustavia owes its name to the brief time the island was in Swedish hands and is a great place to hit exclusive shops before you head to more remote shores. Watch the sunset from “Do Brazil” on Shell Beach while sipping on its famous Piňa Colada and enjoy a fun, funky

evening at the popular hilltop spot “Le Ti Saint Bart”. Head to Colombier, a beautiful small beach, accessible only by boat or on foot; it is ideal for excellent snorkelling and diving. Île Fourchue, a deserted island just a few miles northwest of St. Barths is perfect for exploring by kayak and on foot. It has good snorkelling with rays and turtles adding to the usual reef fish, with the best dive site being at the southwest tip of the island. Enjoy the privileged access that a yacht offers by sailing to Tintamarre, another uninhabited isle off the northeast corner of St. Martin. Often referred-to as paradise, Tintamarre perfectly fits the definition of “deserted island” as there is no habitation - just turquoise water, white sand and palm trees. Long Bay Beach, the longest stretch of sand on the island is one of the quietest areas on the island and it’s possible to find a secluded spot all to yourself.

dolphins. If this all sounds like too much, however, simply while away the hours with those views and a good book for company – and perhaps the distant tune of ukulele floating on the breeze. Tahiti is the yachting capital of French Polynesia: verdant and dramatic with lagoons full of tropical fish and gleaming beaches fringed with coconut palms. Meet your yacht not far from the Fakarava airport in a place known as the North Pass and cruise down to the South

Pass while enjoying Tahit’s infamous waters. Bora Bora – the pearl of the Pacific – lies within a bright cerulean lagoon reminiscent of an artists’ palette, all white-sand beaches and fragrant forests of wild hibiscus. Wherever you drop anchor in this intimate paradise, you can expect the most exquisite and enchanting views, calm waters and a warm welcome. Make sure you try a dive with the manta rays, go horseback riding on a beautiful white sandy beach, take a heli-tour or visit a Marquesan
art gallery. Your can also plan for a special dinner with traditional Polynesian musicians and fire dancers. Taha’a island, also called the “Vanilla Island,” offers a glimpse of the traditional tranquil life of theTahitians. The flower-shaped island’s simple beauty is charmed by soft mountain shapes and surrounded by tiny motu with bright sand beaches. Eighty percent of Tahiti’s vanilla bean come from this island and it is worth a safari to visit the plantations and lush vegetation.
