SALES MARKET OVERVIEW JANUARY - DECEMBER 2021

2021 was one of the strongest years in the history of yachting both in terms of sales and charter. Superyacht sales surged, hitting a new record by a substantial margin, of close to 1200 vessel sales above 24 meters. All in all the year closed at an impressive +42% versus 2020 and +51% versus 2019.

A STRONG BROKERAGE MARKET Of the yachts sold during 2021, 69% were pre-owned vessels and 31% were sold new. The brokerage market recorded an impressive performance with pre-owned superyacht sales at +44% versus the same period in 2020. Buoyed by a wave of first-time buyers enlightened by the benefits of yacht ownership, brokerage has also seen existing owners upsizing their yachts, as well as acquiring multiple boats in various locations around the world.

DEMAND OUTREACHING SUPPLY From January to December, a total of 1107 yachts in the 24m and above category were newly listed for sale, 1018 of which were motor yachts, and 89 sailing yachts. The average length was 33.5m, the average volume 268 GT and the average asking price €7.6 million. With fewer yachts entering the market, new listings recorded a -8% decline versus the same period in 2020. With buyers typically looking for more immediate deals, quality vessels that were realistically priced sold faster.

YACHT PRICES REMAINED STRONG In this robust market, yacht prices remained strong. The average price reduction across all size segments was €446,000 with 1420 price adjustments announced. In comparison, the average price change during the same period in 2020 was €641,000.
