Task 1: Gathering source images. 1. For this assignment to be successful you will need to collect a wide range of source images for the background layers of your work. Although you can find many pictures on the web, you can get more marks for your work if you actually take some of your own photographs. 2. Try to collect a variety of images that are appropriate for your work (A5 Bubble Bloke). You will also need to take a photograph of your painting too (if you have not already done so. 3. Obviously you can do general searches using the EVERYCLICK image search engine (link at top), however to help you get started I have made a list of useful links to a variety of websites where you can download images to your PC. Use the WEBLINK icon in the EXPLORE column on the assignment page to access these links. 4. When you find images that you think may be useful for your work, use the RIGHT-CLICK mouse function and select SAVE TARGET or PICTURE AS, before you click the OK button check the file name. If needed rename each picture with a more suitable name, also select a suitable place to save your source images such as your Art folder in your HOME area. You may need to work on your project at home, so also UPLOAD copies of your pictures into your folder for this assignment by using the WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT link at the bottom of this page. NOTE: Use the RIGHT-CLICK mouse function and select OPEN IN NEW WINDOW so that you can easily return to this page. 5. Try to get about 4 or 5 images for each feature of your work. For example, if you plan to have a car in your work, don't just find one car, find a few so that you can choose the best one. 6. Also remember to open the FULL SIZE pictures before you save them to your PC. If you do not, the images may be too small to work with.

Task 2: FotoFlexer 1. To make your MONTAGE you are going to use an online picture editing application called: FOTOFLEXER. This is a very powerful tool that will allow you to edit your source images. 2. Click on the FotoFlexer icon

on the assignment page and then create an account by

following the on-screen instructions. Be sure to use your school user ID and password so that you can remember them easily. Also if asked for an email address use your school email addy too, that way you will be able to access any emails sent to you, while you are in school. The format for your school email address is:username@holmfirth.kc4l.net 3. After you have made an account you can then begin to use the application. Begin by using the UPLOAD feature and upload your first image. Your first image will be the background. Usually this will be the sky. So upload a picture with some sky into the application. 4. Next you will need to remove anything other than the sky from your picture. To do this click on the GEEK tab

OUT

located on the top right above the work pane. A tool called: SMART CUT

will appear. Use this tool to cut out the parts of your picture that you do not require.

Instructions on how to do this are provided when you activate the tool and more help can be found by watching a tutorial in the media player on the assignment page. 5. After you have removed parts that are not required click on the OK button and you will return to the work pane. RESIZE your image so that it uses a good width of the page. 6. Next upload your next image. This will be the second layer of your work so it should be the next thing in the distance for your landscape. Such as mountains or hills. 7. Click on the LAYERS tab

the Add Images

and then add a new picture as a new layer by clicking on

Use the SMART CUT OUT tool again to remove everything except (in this

case) the mountains. When you return to the work pane, use the RIGHT-CLICK mouse function and select PULL FORWARD this will place your last image on top of the previous. You may also need to resize the image accordingly.

Task 3: Finishing your Montage 1. Your final layer/ image will be your Bubble Bloke. Upload a copy of your bubble bloke into fotoflexer as a new layer (same as before). 2. You will then need to use the SMART CUT OUT tool to remove the background of your picture so that your CGI background and layers will show. 3. To pass this assignment your montage should include at least 10 different source images/ layers. 4. More marks will be awarded if your montage includes relevant elements for your work. 5. When you have completed your montage you will need to group all of the layers/ pictures in your work so that it becomes ONE image. To do this click on the LAYERS tab and then choose SELECT ALL. This will select all of your images/ layers in your work. 6. Next use the RIGHT-CLICK mouse function and select GROUP SELECTED IMAGES from the options. This will combine all of your layers/ images into ONE single picture. 7. Click on the SAVE button above the work pane area to save your montage. After a short moment you will get more options. Select SAVE to save a copy of your work inside your FotoFlicker account, you may also want to save another copy to your PC. If so repeat the process but select My Computer from the options. 8.
