Task 1: Designing your landscape model 1. You will be working as a group for this assignment. The first thing that you will need to do as a group is to plan, design and then decide on a theme for your group project. Begin by contributing to a list of possible ideas for your group project. Using a sheet of paper, list all ideas that are put forward. Each member of the should contribute at least ONE idea/ suggestion. 2. When a list of ideas is created you should then select one of the suggestions to design further in your own sketchbooks. Think about the scale (size), the theme (what your landscape includes), the materials that you will need to collect and then use and also how your 3D landscape model may be constructed. Using text and small illustrations on a full page in your sketchbook be as detailed as possible. 3. After you have written a detailed plan for your chosen landscape, in turn each member of the group presents their ideas to allow all members a chance to decide on one final idea. 4. When all ideas have been presented, as a group you must decide on which one idea you will collectively work on. If needed take a vote. 5. Each member of the group will have a role to play in collecting materials for your project. Decide who will collect what and which parts of the construction members of the group will work on. Remember that this is a group (team) project, so all members of the group should have equal amounts of work to do. However, your group may need to elect a leader so that your group project is successful.
Task 2: Constructing your 3D landscape 1. Working as a group, all members should be involved in the preparation, application and construction of your model. Take it in turns to prepare materials and apply them to your work. 2. Begin your construction with a strong card base, you will probably have hills and/ or mountains and therefore paper-mache will need to be used to build up height and depth of featured hills and mountain terrain. 3. Your model may include buildings which will need making and added a later stages of your construction. 4. Other features may need to be made such as trees, bushes and hedges, animals, rivers, streams and waterfalls, lamp posts, telegraph poles, stone walls, roads, paths etc. All of these features should be made alongside the construction of the main landscape so that they can be added as and when appropriate. 5. When all construction is in place, your model will need to be painted using effective colours. As a group you should share this task so that it is painted quickly, divide the many parts of your landscape up to allow each member of the group to concentrate on a specific part of your work.
