For this assignment you are required to produce a limited-colour oil pastel landscape using the CITY as the theme. This work must be done on A2 paper and should demonstrate your ability to use oil pastel effectively and a limited use of colour using tonal variety. Layers, depth and perspective are crucial to gain good marks.
Task instructions: 1. You must have planned for this assignment in your sketchbook by finding a variety of sources of inspiration. 2. Development and practise work should take place in your sketchbook to show clear planning. Include written comments about your work that explains the thinking behind your idea. 3. Look at the gallery to see what other students have done for this assignment. (use the weblink EXPLORE) 4. You should demonstrate a variety of research skills such as images from magazines and newspapers and the internet. But you will get more marks for originality such as using photographs from your holiday destinations or places that you have visited. 5. Primary source images will also gain you more marks, consider taking some photographs of local towns and city's for your project. 6. Sketch a range of possibilities directly in your sketchbook, experiment with a range of possible colour themes.
7. Before you submit your sample work for assessment make sure that it is complete! A complete artwork needs to have a full interesting background and all of the surface on the paper should be covered with oil pastel. 8. Submitting your sample work: • Take a digital photo of your work and transfer the photo from your camera device to your PC. • Check that the photo displays correctly (rotate/ edit it if needed). • Click on the SUBMIT WORK button at the bottom right of the assignment page, then use the bottom (2nd) BROWSE button and locate your work from your PC. Click OPEN then OK. • Check that your sample work has been submitted correctly by viewing your history inside your Markbook. • Also check your Markbook for feedback and marks shortly after submission and print out a copy of your comments for your sketchbook
