For this assignment you are required to respond to the theme of landscape using fantasy and surreal qualities. For help with this assignment consider the following:
• A landscape from another world • An alternative viewpoint of landscape such as a birds-eye view • An image from underwater depicting coral reefs or the ocean floor • An existing place but slightly changed or altered • Look at at how other artists have depicted the landscape and use their work for inspiration such as Dali, Magritte and Max Ernst.
This work must be done on A2 size (min) paper or similar canvas and should demonstrate your ability to use your imagination and acrylic paint with flair.
Guidance: 1. You must have planned for this assignment in your sketchbook by finding a variety of sources of inspiration. Such as from magazines, newspapers, photographs, websites etc. Perhaps also other students work use the image icon (EXPLORE) 2. Look at the gallery to see what other students have done for this assignment. Use the webpage icon (EXPLORE) 3. You should demonstrate a variety of research skills and explain these in your sketchbook. But you will get more marks for originality such as using photographs from your holiday destinations or places that you have visited. 4. Use image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop to create a CGI (computer generated image) of some imaginary landscapes. Or simply transform and apply effects to images. Print out all computer images for your sketchbook and explain the process you applied. 5. Sketch a range of possibilities directly in your sketchbook. 6. Before you submit your sample work for assessment make sure that it is complete! A complete artwork needs to have a full interesting background and all of the surface on the paper/ canvas should be covered with a good amount of detail. 7. Make sure you have read the assessment objectives so that you know what you will be marked on. Use the document icon (EXPLORE).
Submitting your sample work: • Take a digital photo of your finished work. If you need to borrow a camera from school this can be arranged, although your mobile phone may have a suitable camera. • Transfer the photo to your PC and if needed edit it so that it displays correctly. • Click the SUBMIT WORK button below, use the bottom BROWSE button to locate your work, click OPEN and then OK. • Check your markbook history to ensure your work has submitted correctly.
