"Having worked alongside UKLC for many years, I am happy to say that this organisation has my complete trust. The educational programmes they offer are of a high-quality standard and they always try to accommodate the needs of each group of students. In particular, their residential summer courses for young learners have a great mix of nationalities and an excellent programme of extra-curricular activities and excursions. Furthermore, in the past UKLC staff have been very welcoming and always willing to help our students and group leaders." Schola, Spain

We pride ourselves on our strong relationships with partner agencies. We understand that agents need high quality partners in the UK in order to gain satisfied clients who will generate word of mouth marketing on their return home. Our relationship is built on trust. We work with your group leaders to ensure that the safety of your students is the priority throughout all of our centres. We understand that the success of our business is inseparable from the success of the agents we work with. We will work with you to create attractive marketing material to sell our courses. We help with the details of getting groups to our schools; supporting you during the visa application process and finding the most cost-effective transfers from each airport. Because of agent demand, in 2014 we are delighted to open a further 3 new centres in the south of England - Ardingly College (between Brighton and London), Plymouth College and St Peter’s School in York. These excellent boarding schools mean we can meet our customers’ demand for quality programmes across the UK.

William Griffith & Céline Aloé Directors, UKLC

WELCOME About Us UKLC provide residential English language and activity programmes for groups of students aged 11-17 years. We have a combined experience of over 25 years and we pride ourselves on delivering great quality and value, together with an excellent, personal service.

“It was a pleasure to work with you. Your attention to all the children’s needs was above and beyond expectations. You helped a lot and you made my stay here easier. Thanks a million.” Group Leader Our Centres UKLC offer a choice of 9 top-class centres across the UK. They range from the most traditional British boarding schools to the newest university campuses. Situated in historic and vibrant cities like York, Chester and Plymouth and in the beautiful towns of Barnard Castle, Ardingly, and Denbigh, with all centres located within reasonable proximity to major international airports ensuring easy access on arrival and departure. At all our centres we provide full board accommodation and offer superb teaching and activity facilities. The type and number of rooms vary according to each centre, so please contact us if you have specific requirements. Our Objective Our objective is to enable students of all abilities to improve their English in a safe, relaxed, comfortable and friendly environment while enjoying the best experience of life in the UK. Our specialist staff are carefully selected for their qualifications and experience in either language tuition or sports coaching, as well as their enthusiasm and ability to motivate and engage young people. They all receive full training in our policies and procedures to ensure they deliver teaching and activities to the highest standard. The focus of our courses is on communication: broadening students' active and passive knowledge and skills, and increasing their confidence in using the English language. We use a task-based approach to achieve this. Our Agents We work exclusively with approved agents, with whom we build long-lasting relationships. If you are looking for a study travel agent in your area, or you would like to become one of our agents, please contact us.

OUR PROGRAMMES Our programmes combine quality English teaching with a wealth of sports, excursions and evening social activities to provide an enjoyable educational and cultural experience. All our courses are available for groups of young people aged 11 to 17 years (minimum 10 students). Groups must be accompanied by a group leader, who acts in loco parentis to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their students during their stay, with the full support of UKLC staff. For this reason we do not take individual students. June, July and August - Summer Programmes During July and August, UKLC provide high-quality international Summer Camps at residential sites across the UK. In addition to our activity programmes, we run ‘English Plus’ specialist sports and performing arts programmes on four afternoons a week at Manchester Chetham’s School of Music, University of Chester and Denbigh Howell’s School. Occasionally it is necessary to run a zig zag programme with afternoon lessons at some of our centres. September to June – Mini-Stays Between September and June we offer a range of Mini-Stay Programmes, with homestay and residential options, in the historic city of Chester. These can include British children working with EFL students during International Days of Learning (IDOL). These programmes are fully flexible to the needs of your group and activities can be tailored to suit students’ requirements. More details on these programmes can be found on pages 32 and 33. Included in our standard Summer programmes: › 5 days (15 hours) of English tuition per week › Up to 4 afternoons of supervised sports and non-sports activities › 1 free group leader place for every 15 students › Full board residential accommodation in the school › Excursions (min. one full-day and one half-day per week) › Evening activities. Conversation Clubs are available as an alternative to some evening activities on at least 2 days per week. › End of course certificate Extras › Airport transfers › Optional extra excursions, e.g. London or Alton Towers Theme Park › Optional extra activities, e.g watersports › Optional evening activities off site, e.g. bowling, ice-skating or theatre › Optional specialist activity tuition, e.g. football, dance, music, drama or tennis › Optional Trinity College examinations 6

Tuition All our standard UK residential English language courses include 15 hours per week of English classes from Monday to Friday (groups arriving mid-week will recover the extra lessons by doing an afternoon session, usually in the form of a town trail). All our classes have a maximum of 15 students per class and we ensure all language levels contain the minimum possible age range. All students receive a UKLC attendance certificate and report at the end of the course. We use a Task Based Learning approach to our lessons which aims to engage the students’ interest and ignite a passion and enthusiasm for the language. There is a great focus on speaking and our priority is to increase their confidence and enjoyment of learning. We also include preparation and follow-up classes related to the excursions as a key part of the curriculum and, in addition, students work together with their teacher on a course project, using appropriate technology such as computers and cameras, which forms the basis of a final performance at the end of their stay. Our teachers are all qualified (Trinity TESOL or Cambridge CELTA equivalent) and are recruited for their passion and enthusiasm for the teaching of English and their desire to teach young learners. We offer support and training to all our staff to help ensure that they deliver the best quality service to our students. Placement Tests We offer classes at four levels from Elementary to Upper Intermediate. Students are given a placement test on their first day of classes to ensure they are placed at the correct level. Examinations We offer the option of taking Trinity College Spoken English exams on-site for courses of 10 days or longer. Sports and activities We provide a wide mix of exciting sports and activities up to 4 afternoons a week, both indoors and outdoors, including football, tennis, archery, swimming, music, art, drama, dance, indoor climbing, golf, volleyball, waterpolo, indoor caving and much more. The available activities will depend on the facilities at each centre. Our sports and activities sessions are usually three hours in length, normally include three sports and are run on-site. Our sports and activity staff have experience in coaching and holding coaching qualifications. All sessions are carefully planned, and designed to be both educational and enjoyable.

Manchester, Chetham’s School of Music

This city centre school is the largest specialist music school in the UK and is famous for being home to the oldest lending library in the world - Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels used to meet there often! The site offers a mix of modern facilities and accommodation set against a back drop of medieval architecture. Its position in the middle of the vibrant city of Manchester means that students have the opportunity to explore a wealth of attractions on their doorstep. Chetham's School of Music is to be found nestling between the Cathedral and opposite the Printworks with the popular Hard Rock Cafe. Famous for its industry, Manchester has been modernised over the past 20 years and has become one of Britain’s most important commercial and financial centres. It has a thriving cultural life, catering to its huge student population and Chetham’s often hosts events during the biannual Manchester International Festival in July.

Southampton Solent

Southampton Solent University campus is situated in the heart of a vibrant city with shops, restaurants, and bank cashpoints all on site or nearby. The city centre itself, the railway station and the waterfront are all within 10 minutes walking distance and London is just over an hour away. The city has a strong sense of history and heritage. The Mayflower set sail from here for the New World in 1520. Medieval walls nestle among modern developments to create a unique waterfront environment. It’s famous for its global maritime role, primarily as a major trading port, but also as home to some of today’s greatest ocean liners, container ships, yachts and power boats.
