Emotional Connections and Behavioral Theories When a robot has human like attributes the user will act more socially with it. An How does one influence the other? example of this can be seen in how humans interact with their pet. A cat or dog will respond to the emotions of a human and vice versa. “A particular strong bond is created if the user gets the impression Userthat the communication partner Robot feels emotions” (M. Saerbeck, “Software Architecture for Social Robots” pg. 13). Social interaction creates a mutual relationship and increases engagement for Apperance/ the user. The challenge is in creating a social interaction between robot and human. People are sensitive to unnatural behavior and therefore during the Shape Perception design of a social robot attention needs to be paid to behavioral traits and Behavior perception.

We should try to create a natural interaction between robot and human. I would like to Interaction explore the element of Perception consciousness in interaction, perception and decision-making processes. What externial factors also influence perception? How can these be used to Interaction increase engagement?

The shape can fall into one of the following categories.
Literal
Metaphor
Semantic
Literal form can give a feeling of familiarity however it can also be seen as repelling. Form is a factor in how the device is perceived.

Conclusion/ Future Direction It would be interesting to look into how behavior can be linked to perception. Further research will be done to determine how the actions of humans, both conscious and unconscious, can relate and/or be mimicked in a robot. For the next phase of robot building I would like to investigate how implementing human characteristics into a robot can allow for natural interaction.
