SAN CARLO ALLE QUATTRO FONTANE (THE CHURCH OF SAINT CHARLES AT THE FOUR FOUNTAINS)
FRANCESCO BORROMINI
San Carlo Alle Qua-ro Fontane Is one of my personal favourite buildings, the concave‐convex façade undulates in a non‐classical way that makes it so unlike anything of its Cme. I find the internal dome an incredible feat of design and construcCon for the Cme in which it was built, 1634. The Tall Corinthian columns stand on plinths and bear the main entablature. Smaller columns beside the larger frame other intricate architectural details such as the various sculptural elements. This building is a key example in the history of Baroque Architecture and Architectural history as a whole.

THE WEISSENHOFF ESTATE MEIS VAN DER ROHE & LE CORBUSIER The Weissenhoff estate was built for the Deutscher WerkBund in 1927 it included 21 buildings, comprising of approximately 60 dwellings designed by 17 European architects including le Corbusier, Meis Van Der Rohe and Walter Gropius to name a few. The 21 buildings varied slightly I form and ranged from terraces to apartments although they all stood quite consistent in design. I was lucky enough to visit the buildings that sCll stand earlier this year and it was clear to see that the concept of form following funcCon was key in these designs. In the Le Corbusier Museum the use of space was quite well thought out and the use of inbuilt furniture was very clever and well designed.

HERRING ISLAND DISCOVERY CENTRE ADS1:EARTH BY JULIA KOUTROULIS
This is my design for an informaCon/ discovery centre on Herring island, designed during my First Semester of Second year in Architectural Design Studio 1: Earth. This project was given specific requirements in terms of the amount of space that could be used and the funcCons of those spaces.
We were given quite a lot of creaCve freedom when designing and I was able to expand my ideas using digital soeware to create a building in the shape of a circle essenCally. I decided to begin with a basic piece of geometry and separate it in order to fulfill separate funcCons. In a way I inversed the idea of form following funcCon and made the funcCons of my spaces fit the form I had decided on. The circular design fit well within the contours of the site and the use of green roofing and glass over masonry provided a relaConship between interior and exterior.
