WHY ARE WE CELEBRATING?

This upcoming year is extra special for St. Benedict as we are celebrating the 100th birthday of our landmark church building on Irving Park Road. St Benedict parish was founded in the Northcenter community in 1902 when local Catholics sought to have Catholic schooling for their children closer to home. By 1916, the parish had grown to approximately 800 families and the building of a larger church structure was imperative. The small wooden church on the corner of Irving Park Road and Leavitt Street was moved and replaced by the current landmark house of worship. This project began in 1917 and was a great addition to the Northcenter community when completed in 1918.

HOW YOU CAN HELP?

During 2017, we will be honoring and celebrating the birthday of our church at our annual fundraisers-Mass & Gala (aka Ball & Auction), BenFest, and the Fun Run. Over 6,000 people attend these events including parishioners, school parents, and community members. This year we are providing an opportunity for you or your company to secure an annual sponsorship that includes recognition throughout the year at all three fundraising events. Our packages include both traditional and new benefits such as advertisement in our 100th Birthday Commemorative Book and on Irving Park Road street banners. These packages have potential to generate a significant amount of traffic and visibility for your company with potential of over 2 million impressions, hits, and view over the upcoming year.

MASS & GALA

Our Mass & Gala, formerly known as the Ball and Auction, has become an annual spring celebration of all that is good in our parish and PK-12 school. Each year, school parents, parishioners, alumni, family members, friends and community guests display a tremendous sense of generosity, as the proceeds of this event, our largest fundraiser, support an exceptional PK-12 school program.

BENFEST- JULY 14-JULY 16, 2017

St . Benedict

BenFest is the oldest summer fest on the north side of Chicago, featuring the hottest music and fun for every age. Held in mid-July, singles, couples and families come out to enjoy activities for adults and kids, well-known musical acts, and great food, beer and refreshments to cool you off on a warm summer’s day. “Chicago’s best family-friendly summer festival” (Chicago Tribune)

FUN RUN- SEPTEMBER 2017

This September school Fun Run fundraiser incorporates fitness, leadership, and character development. Our 2nd Annual Fun Run was a record shattering success! These funds are used for new Classroom grant program, technological enhancements throughout the school and a contribution to the parish.

The SPIRITUAL LIFE COMMISSION is comprised of all the ministries that help to plan and ensure the participation of the laity at all our gatherings for prayer and worship focusing on making our Sunday liturgy an exceptional weekly encounter with Christ and His Church.

The HUMAN CONCERNS COMMISSION represents our outreach to a wide variety of people in the Chicago area struggling to survive at the margins of our society. We minister to those among us with spiritual, physical, social and economic needs, and to those experiencing lack and loss. We are Christianity in action. Your investment supports the work of the parish which includes: - Providing a monthly food collection to the Common Pantry - Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter dinners for several hundred in the community who might otherwise be alone at the holidays - Annual Advent Food Drive which allows the St. Vincent de Paul Society to deliver baskets of food to provide a full Christmas dinner and more to 37 families.

Our ADULT AND CHILD CATECHESIS COMMISSION is the collection of ministries dedicated to life long learning around the celebration of sacraments and around different moments in our lives. Your investment supports: - Programs and retreats for those that are beginning their marriage and starting a family - Youth ministry that empowers our young people to support their larger community - Religious Education Programs for public school children in grades K-8 - SPRED education for the developmentally challenged

The St Benedict PARISH LIFE COMMISSION is the collection of ministries that allow us to celebrate with the community and continue to support a fun, family-friendly neighborhood.
