Seedlings

Statement and Mind map

Fabric & Colour Palette

Seedlings is a trend that we are interested in presenting to Target in an attempt to increase children’s awareness and interest in the environment, in a fun and approachable way. The aim of this trend is to encourage children to develop an appreciation for the world’s natural resources such as fruits and vegetables, as well as plant and animal life. The inspiration for this range is the vision of a little girl planting seeds in her backyard on a crisp autumn day in the sun. The expression of this trend is mostly through colour and print, with a very bright colour palette, and graphic prints of animals and plant life. As this is a winter range, we have attempted to find a balance between bright colours and floral patterns that are usually associated with summer and translate them to winter garments with the use of materials such as denim, felt, and knitwear.

“Developing children’s understanding of their impact on on the environment is the first step towards providing them with the necessary skills to be a part of the climate change solution”

Statement

This trend is ultimately a mix of all other trends, taking out separate ideas from each other trend and combining them to create a contemporary style of clothing for young girls. The New Australia idea is to create a collection with reference to old school Australian fashion and blending them into a new contemporary style which doesn’t only appeal to the “Aussies” but to every Australian, which currently is people from all over the world who have chosen Australia to be their home. This is a collection to spark interest in all Australians and will have something to suit all different styles and moods. Inspiration coming from mid/late 19th century children’s fashion in Australia, as well as worldwide kids trends, and brands such as Uniqlo who are creating basic kids wear which typically accommodate to children everywhere.
