Keep Moving, Think Core Strength and Posture!
Posture and core strength change how you move and feel. Have you ever felt aches in your back after walking? All you may need to do is adjust your head and shoulder position. Stand tall, engage your core muscles, stabilise your body and have all the benefits of moving freely without added pain. Rounding your shoulders can throw your whole body out.
Good Posture and core strength really can help with a healthy life.
Correcting posture provides an instant boost to how you look and feel, it’s about adjusting and being mindful. You instantly look taller, leaner and fitter. A strong core is beneficial to everyone. The strength allows your body to function properly and helps to improve your mobility and balance, along with providing the foundation of g ood posture.
Good posture
Many parts of your body are involved but particularly the shape and position of your spine. We need to aim to have good Static and Dynamic posture, this results in comfortably standing, sitting, laying and moving. Perfect posture rarely exists … It’s trying to be the best you can be and practising good habits.
Poor posture
Along with the lack of core strength, poor posture can cause imbalances and extra stress on other areas of your body and prevent proper functioning.
Re-setting your posture
Feet hip width part, everything facing forward (naturally for you), feel a lengthening through your body, roll your shoulders back and into place.
Try to avoid your shoulders from creeping up and keep a lengthened neck, this will help reduce tension too. Your core should feel strong, chest open and bottom slightly tucked.
Time to focus on your Body
How we treat our body, the food we eat and lack of exercise for example, impacts our health and movement.
Benefit from spending time on you. Whether it’s to help get you moving with ease, correct your alignment or positioning developed from a regular sport/activity, or from spending time with your head dropped looking at your phone.
Exercise, predominately Pilates would be a great start. Exercise doesn’t need to be complicated, it’s about thinking of your body and the control of the movement. Try introducing Bridges, Knee Folds and Wide Arm Raise into a weekly routine to see improvement. Pilates exercise involving gentle stretching will help alleviate pain and strengthen your core.
