What is New Norlane? Norlane is a suburb ideally located on the Melbourne side of Geelong just seven kilometres north of the CBD and approximately 70 kilometres from Melbourne. A vibrant and growing community with established schools, parks, shopping facilities and services, Norlane offers some of the most affordable new housing in the state. The New Norlane – Building for the future initiative is one of the largest public and private housing projects ever undertaken in Victoria. By 2015, 320 new affordable homes will be built in the suburb, providing home buyers with the chance to be part of Norlane’s future – a New Norlane.
New Norlane initiative New Norlane is a four-year $80 million housing initiative to build more than 320 new affordable homes in the suburb of Norlane, Geelong. The Victorian Government is working with selected home builders to deliver 160 new affordable private homes and 160 new public homes on 200 vacant blocks of land. Leading home builders Burbank Australia, Hamlan Homes and Porter Davis are the major building partners for the New Norlane initiative and are constructing all of the new private homes for sale through the New Norlane project. This affordable housing project is one of the largest of its kind ever undertaken in Victoria. New Norlane is building for the future of the area, generating investment and creating greater opportunities for the long-term prosperity of Geelong’s north.

Norlane - a rich history Norlane was one of several broad-acre villa estates built in well-located areas of Victoria in response to the post World War II housing shortage. Between 1948 and 1958, a total of 2,348 homes were built within the carefully master planned Norlane estate, followed by shopping strips, schools, parklands and other community facilities. The new community was home to many large families, most with parents working in local factories including Ford, Shell, the Phosphate Company, and International Harvester. New investment has been flowing into Norlane since the early 2000s when the Neighbourhood Renewal project commenced. This program focused on employment and training as well as a major program of housing upgrades and new construction, resulting in 150 new homes being built to replace original weatherboard designs. New Norlane is the next chapter of this story.
