My research explores and develops architectural responses to the rapidly increasing Alzheimer’s population in the UK. With estimates of disease prevalence set at 3.1% for 2050 (two million people), it is necessary to reconsider our understanding of architecture’s role within urban healthcare. In particular, neurodegenerative architecture must take into consideration both clinical and cultural concerns, cultivating an interdisciplinary approach that caters to the human, spatial, and social dimensions of memory.
