RESOURCE & CHORAL MUSIC MOVE TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Beth Murray-Wilson Learning Coordinator Academic Resource Center Beth has worked as elementary principal at Canton Academy, as well as in resource at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. She owns Educational Solutions, which provides learning resource solutions for area families. She has written a 1st-3rd grade curriculum, Phonics Alive, and is a certified Alphabetics Phonics Language Therapist, Dyslexia Specialist. She has her bachelors degree in handicapped education from the University of Mississippi and her masters in supervision administration from Mississippi College. Beth says . . . “My vision for the art and academic resource program is to provide individualized instruction to meet specific learning needs so that students are prepared to enter college with skills needed for optimal performance. “I’ve enjoyed getting to know the internal view of JA’s community and the wealth of support of the teachers and parents. “Jackson Academy has a very balanced approach to building the whole child educationally, academically and spiritually. I’ve been impressed with the expertise and insight of Jackson Academy’s instructors and their desire to reach students.”
Katie Easley Director of Choral Music Katie graduated from Northeast Jones High School and earned her Associate in Arts degree in Music Education from Jones County Junior College, and her M.E. in Choral Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. At Southern, she participated in The Southern Chorale, Southern Chamber Singers and the Southern Miss Opera and Musical Theatre Company. She studied voice under Dr. Susan Smith (Jones) and Dr. Maryann Kyle (USM). Katie says . . . “I can already tell that the students of Jackson Academy, as well as the families they represent, are fantastic people. Everyone has been gracious, hospitable and welcoming to me. “JA’s new Performing Arts Center is overwhelming, and I am thrilled to start using it with our students and the community at large. We are blessed and fortunate to have this resource. “Choral music is much more than singing, performing, and competitions. What takes place within JA’s program will be fun and enjoyable, with a lot of hard work. There will be opportunities for personal growth including team building, self-confidence, stage presence, people skills and musicianship. JA’s choral music program is on the verge of blossoming into something I hope everyone will enjoy.”

JAA NEWS Dear JA Parents, Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. We look forward to another great year at JA. JAA volunteers have been busy this summer organizing the carnival, handling school supplies, sponsoring the uniform exchange, and planning events for the year. For those who are new to JA, the Jackson Academy Association (JAA) is the parent organization for our school. Thank you to the many parents who supported JAA last year with their time and/or their financial contributions. We truly appreciate everyone who paid their membership dues, gave generously to our carnival, or donated their time as a volunteer. All the money contributed to JAA was used to enhance our school programs. The JAA supports activities in all areas; from the preschool open house to the ACT prep classes, we strive to use your donations to enrich our students’ experiences. Here are just a few of the programs that JAA sponsored last year: • CARE grants for teachers for class room enhancements • Performing Arts programs • Images publication • ACT prep classes • Graduation, class days, and awards day
• New student receptions • Teacher appreciation events • Elementary school supplies • Vision screening • Preschool activities and recruitment
Every preschool, elementary, junior high, and high school student benefits in some way from the services and the financial support of the JAA. In August you will receive your membership form at the Back-to-School meetings. To join the JAA simply complete the form and return it with your dues to the school. We hope you will join us in our efforts to support our children and our school. Sincerely, Susan Hardee JAA President

giving through tax-deductible donations came to more than $800,000.
Thanks to the generosity of our many parents,
alumni, faculty, grandparents, and friends to our JA Annual Fund, these gifts purchase the necessary academic enhancements that families expect from an independent school. From the preschool to the secondary, annual giving impacts the JA experience.
The mission of the Development Office is to support
Jackson Academy by developing positive relationships with all its constituents through the proper stewardship of resources and donations provided by them to the school.
Gifts to JA provide the needed academic support
and program enhancements that have become the hallmarks of a Jackson Academy education.
We continue to celebrate 100 percent participation by our JA teachers in giving to the 2010-2011 JA Annual Fund. This is a wonderful commitment by our outstanding teachers, and we are all tremendously appreciative.

JA CODE OF GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP • Promote the ideals of good sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity. • Cheer for the Raiders, not against the competition--this includes signs. • Respect officials and their decisions. Games can’t be played without them. • Win with humility without boasting; lose with grace, without excuses or finger pointing; do both with dignity. • Demonstrate respect for opposing fans, coaches, and team members. • Realize that a ticket is a privilege to attend an athletic competition and support Jackson Academy activities, not a license to verbally assault others or be generally obnoxious. • Good sportsmanship should be contagious. • Self control is a virtue. • Be an exemplary role model by positively supporting and encouraging Raider team members and their coaches. Have fun promoting our teams. • Be a fan... Not a fanatic! • Make good sportsmanship a conscious priority. It’s simply the right thing to do. • Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
