“G

irls Night: The Musical” has been thrilling audiences and earning

raves from critics throughout North America since it began touring after its sensational Off-Broadway debut. This touching and hilarious, tell-it-like-it-is musical takes audiences on a journey into the lives of a group of female friends. Audience members cannot help but laugh, cry and even find themselves singing and dancing in the aisles as some of the most popular hit songs of the 1980s and ‘90s make this musical a fan favorite!

Follow five friends as they visit their past, celebrate their present and look to the future on a wild and hilarious night out ... and you will recognize a bit yourselves in every one of them! Carol who was born to party, blunt Anita who says it like it is, Liza and her ‘issues’, boring Kate the great designated driver and Sharon, the not-so-angelic angel who just couldn’t resist tagging along! It is described as “Desperate Housewives meets Mamma Mia” (Applause Magazine), “A boisterous, bust-out, bawdy musical revue” (Wisconsin State Journal), “An infectious, exhilarating sense of intoxication” (Hollywood Reporter) and “As funny and outrageous as Sex and the City!” (The Advocate). Girls Night is bursting with energy and is packed with hits “Lady Marmalade,” “It’s Raining Men,” “Man I Feel Like a Woman,” “I Will Survive,” “We are Family” and many more.

The story behind Girls Night is an inspiration to any writer still waiting for their big break. One night, British playwright, author and television producer Louise Roche, a mother of three children under 5, went out with a group of friends to see a Shane Richie musical. She looked around the theatre, saw that the audience was mostly women and thought “I could do this…I could write a show that lots of women will enjoy watching.” Therefore, she did. She went home and wrote her first play, Girls Night, a musical comedy about a group of friends who relive the past on a wild night out at a karaoke club! She put it on with some of her friends at the local community theatre. Five old friends

from school did the acting. She got a woman that she met at her daughter’s playgroup to design the posters and the set. Her mom did the costumes and she dressed the auditorium up like a nightclub herself. Packing theatres throughout the United Kingdom since 2003, it premiered in the United States in 2007. Since then, Girls Night has gone from success to success.

Bolstered by this success, she hired the much bigger Milton Keynes Theatre to mount a one-off spectacular performance of Girls Night. Not one to do things by halves, our heroic homemaker put her money where her mouth was and ploughed her life savings into the show. Every one of the fourteen hundred seats in the building sold and she made back all of her investment.

“Well if you’re female and are looking to have an irreverent good time, this off the wall show is loads of fun. The night I went every seat was taken – mostly by women by the way – and everyone was having a fantastic time dancing, swaying and drinking (yes there’s a bar in the back which gets a lot of traffic) to the performers singing to all the music you ever loved including “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “I Am What I Am,” “It’s Raining Men” and “We Are Family.” The cast is super and everyone I talked to, including two or three men who ventured in, had the time of their lives. Girls Night is great fun.”

-WOR Radio

“The show’s unpretentious fun and the talented, unembarrassable women on stage had all of the audience on their feet, clapping, singing, and dancing in the aisles.”

-Philadelphia Inquirer

“The audience was on its feet cheering and clapping and erupted in loud applause at several points” -DesMoinesRegister.com

Ballet Chelsea “The Five Dancing Princesses” 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 The Five Dancing Princesses is an original full-length ballet and Ballet Chelsea’s Artistic Director Wendi DuBois’ light-hearted interpretation of the Grimm Brothers’ tale, “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.” Set to music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Wendi’s choreography tells the story in an unforgettable manner. Founded in 1995, Ballet Chelsea builds strong individuals through high caliber training and performance excellence while giving back to the audience that supports them through arts education and community outreach.

The Golden Rules Please read on and remember that part of one’s pact as an audience member is to take seriously the pleasure of others, a responsibility fulfilled by quietly attentive (or silently attentive) and self-contained behavior. After all, you can be as demonstrative as you want during bows and curtain calls.

1.

Go easy with the atomizer. Many people are highly allergic to perfume and cologne.

2.

If you bring a child, make sure etiquette is part of the experience. Children love learning new things.

3.

Unwrap all candies and cough drops before the curtain goes up or the concert begins.

4.

Make sure cell phones, beepers, and watch alarms are OFF. And don’t jangle the bangles.

5.

The overture is part of the performance. Please cease talking at this point.

6.

Note to lovebirds: When you lean your heads together, you block the view of the person behind you. Learning forward also blocks that view.

THOU SHALT NOT TALK, or hum, or sing along, or beat time with a body part.

7.

8.

Force yourself to wait for a pause or intermission before rifling through a purse, backpack, or shopping bag.

9.

Yes, the parking lot gets busy and public transportation is tricky, but leaving while the show is in progress is discourteous.

10. The old standby: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
