FOOD LABORATORY A multidisciplinary project that utilises food waste by channeling it into urban farming in order for it to provide food and energy back into the community. It is a complex system that relies on several components in order for the cycle to function correctly and to maximise the use of local resources. This programme will provide public and private spaces in the form of contemporary farming space, research laboratory and a commercial unit for the selling of produces. The design of the building will see the amalgamation of public and private realms, yet still maintaining them as two separate entities.
45
CONTEXT
In Malaysia, agricultural production and post-harvest handling and storage are stages in the food supply chain with relatively high food losses, as opposed to the distribution and consumption levels.
AGENDA
Conceived as an urban catalyst, the proposed idea is to alleviate food losses along the food chain especially at the post-harvest stages and developed to preserves its significant food cultures and raise public awareness to the current food waste phenomenon where the consumer’s relationship with food has faded away along with the country’s rapid growth towards the industrialized age. Various types of productive landscapes such as orchards, parks and farms would be introduced within the centralized built environment. Existing park and hardscape around the district will be converted into a continuous productive urban landscapes.

PROPOSED PROGRAM The main program was introduced with the objectives above, where it encourages consumer to purchase raw food (ingredients) from the market itself before it was brought to the culinary laboratories in preparation for consumption. Thus greatly reducing the amount of food wastage per person as the amount of food needed for intake is based on the requirement or quota by consumer themselves in addition with the advices provided during purchase. .

52
PROMETORIUM A project that utilises “promession” or known as an “ecological funeral” as a new method for burials by returning the human remains back to the soil to liberate a new kind of life. The design of the building will see the amalgamation of public and private realms, yet still maintaining them as two separate entities. Burial in a graveyard is one common form of tomb. However, burial was not always permanent. In some areas, burial grounds needed to be reused due to limited space. Instead of visiting a place that represents death, acres of contaminated land and big areas covered with gravestones, people will visit a place full of life, rich soil and plants. New forests will be created. People will respect nature as they respect their loved ones. Its time to return the world what we have taken from it.
53
CONCEPTUAL AFTERLIFE The afterlife (also referred to as life after death or the Hereafter) is the concept of a realm, or the realm itself (whether physical or transcendental), in which an essential part of an individual’s identity or consciousness continues to exist after the death of the body in the individual’s lifetime. The afterlife played an important role in Ancient Egyptian religion, and its belief system is one of the earliest known in recorded history. Ancient Egyptian civilization was based on religion; their belief in the rebirth after death became their driving force behind their funeral practices. PYRAMID The Egyptian pyramids are ancient pyramid-shaped masonry structures located in Egypt. Most were built as tombs for the country’s Pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods. While it is generally agreed that pyramids were burial monuments, there is continued disagreement on the particular theological principles that might have given rise to them. One suggestion is that they were designed as a type of “resurrection machine.”
54
PROPOSED BURIAL METHOD PROMESSION Promession is a new method of disposing of the body. Patented by a Swedish company, a promession is also known as an “ecological funeral. Its main purpose is to return the body to soil quickly while minimizing pollution and resource consumption. It is an environmentally friendly way to dispose of waste, or in other words, to compost. It is also considered a ecological form of burial in which human remains are disposed by way of freeze drying.

74
75
PLAYGROUND A-MAZE The site located right beside project ‘eating outlet’ where it is located at the central park. The idea was to create a playground for various age users along with new elements implement in the design creates the feeling of being ‘amaze’ by creating a maze on the platform of the design. The platform was design without affecting any of the existing greens where it stretch out all along the site as the users would walk along the greens. The platform even reaches out to the lakeside in order to create a sense of elevated above water surfaces for the public.

FOLLY HANGING IN THE BALANCE An exploration by the derivation of basic design principle through an art reference. A folly define as primarily for decoration, sheltering or etc use. The undefined function as a folly sparks the idea of hanging in the balance where it does not has a specified function nor term in it. Hence explain the enormous cantilever structure struts between both end to another to create a space beneath the hanging structure. Undefined interaction was create as to play or rest within the space in it which will bring out the sense of hanging above ground level.
77

ARCHITECTURAL BOOTH DESIGN COMPETITION 2011 UNDERWATER The Architectural Booth Design Competition was held along with REX 2011 at Putra World Trade Centre. FUTURE LIVING FOR UNSTABLE DELTA (F.L.U.D) HOMEOSTASIS The brief of the competition was to counter living condition of the foreseen unstable weather condition that may strike us anytime. The main entities that focus on the competition was on how well could the design be adapt to the unstable environment. Hence, the idea of living within a protective surface came on with the ‘zorb ball’ as references where it is durable and high in mobility which encourage nomadic living if there is any disaster struck by. The user could stick together as a community when any of the disaster falls with adequate living accomodities with the rain water harvesting and platform that forms a communal spaces even for farming so the survival could fend on their own.
82
The idea of zorb ball is to have the interior of the ball in a stable mode while the exterior moves or responded to the water movements outside. During the flood, the structure would be able to float with the help of the trapped air below. The overall planning of the ‘island’ is based on how a community could generate their own source of energy, supply of clean water through rainwater harvesting system and sufficient food supplies during times of flood. The suggested architectural solution will accomodate on-site energy and food production through community farming area and usage of solar panels. Filtered clean water is one of the key survival elements which is important during the flood. Therefore, rainwater is harvested and grey water from each of the units on the other hand is filtered, stored and be used to water the crops throughout the community unit via water sprinkler.
