iMac, iPad, Apple TV & iCloud Service By Jacob Houle This Project is about using my iMac, iPad, & iCloud in conjunction with one another in order to first be able to view the content on my iMac right off my iPad when I am anywhere in the world. And secondly, being able to project/cast what I am doing on my iPad screen right on a much larger HDTV screen along with my apple TV.

Materials/Things you’ll Need • iPad (when I first got mine I got it new at best buy for $570 plus 7% tax in burlington. so 570x1.07=$609.90. then I got a 3yr warranty for the iPad off square trade.com for $105. so 609.90+105=$714.90) • iMac (got the iMac used and they were selling it for $850) • Apple TV (got it new as a Christmas present for $100) • iCloud Service just comes built into all 3 of those devices • VNC Viewer app from the app store on your apple iPad (this is a free app) 2
How-to Walk Through Part 1 •
Firstly for the iMac, it must be plugged into a wall outlet on one end of the power cord and the other end must be plugged into the iMac itself. and then you power it on by pushing the power symbol button in the back left of the iMac. Then you go into your iMacs setting by clicking the apple logo in the upper left of the screen, then clicking system preferences and once that comes up you click on "network" preference pane. and then searching for a WiFi access point to have your iPad, iMac, and apple tv all on one internet connection.
•
Secondly for the iPad, that just needs to be powered on. and if its not you just hold the lock button on the upper right at the very top of the iPad until the screen comes on. Once thats done you go into settings by click ing the grey app that looks like gears labeled "settings". Once there, again do the same thing click on the wifi preference pane and search for and hook onto the same wifi internet connection that you did with your iMac
•
Thirdly for your apple TV, make sure that it is plugged in and powered on. Again same deal go to settings on the device and make sure its on the same internet connection that your iMac and iPad are on. 3
How-to Walk Through Part 2 •
Once all that is done, and if you haven’t already, go to the "app store" right on your apple iPad and download the "VNC viewer" app. cant find it? just type VNC viewer into the search box in the app store in the upper right hand corner.
•
In order to be able to view your iMac desktop right off your iPad you must click on/open that VNC viewer app and then type in the correct info of your iMac in the appropriate required fields. such as your username and password of your mac and your ip address of your iMac, which in my case its 10.0.1.26. how do you find that address? well you go to the black apple icon in the upper left of your iMac desktop. then you click on "about this mac" in the drop down menu. once that comes up you click on the "system report" button. and then when that comes up, you click on "network" in the left hand pane of that window. Once there you are looking for something called the "IPV4 address" thats the ip address you want thats written right across from this text "IPV4 Address." you type that into the field marked "Address" in the VNC Viewer app on your iPad. Once your IP address, Username, & Password are typed into the required fields in that app you click on "Connect" and it should work and you are now able to view your iMac desktop anywhere you are right on your iPad. 4
How-to Walk Through Part 3 •
Those first two parts (the previous 2 slides) were just hooking the iPad, iMac, & apple TV onto wifi and working with the VNC app. This part is now about being able to cast what you are doing on your iPad right onto a much larger HDTV (High Definition TeleVision) screen.
•
In order to do that you need to make sure your apple TV is plugged in and powered on. You also need to connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI ports on the TV and the apple TV. Both ends of that cable have a male end of the HDMI. you plug the male ends into the female ends on your TV and apple TV. Also the airplay settings of your apple TV need to be to up to par. If not, go into settings on your apple TV and click on "airplay" and make sure they fit your needs for when you go to connect your iPad to the apple TV through airplay.
•
Once done in settings go back to the main home screen of your apple TV. Then go to your iPad and drag a finger from the bottom of the screen and go up with it. This pulls up a small box with quick access buttons. Just click on "airplay mirroring" in that box that comes up and then click on "apple TV" that comes up in that list. Your iPad should now be being mirrored right onto your TV. No matter what you are doing on your iPad, it is happening right on your bigger HDTV screen as well.

When all is said and done this whole three part how to walk through should have taken you probably less than a half-hours time. I feel half an hour (or less) should be plenty of time to plug things in and get them hooked onto wifi and everything else. 5
Problem Solving • One of the problems that I encountered was not being able to find documents that are on my iMac desktop and see them on my iPad in the iCloud drive. • In order to fix that problem I found an alternative means to see documents that are on my iMac and view then right on my iPad. I purchased/downloaded an apple app from the app store on my iPad in order to do and solve this issue 6
End/Resources used There were no outside resources I used to begin and complete this project. I already knew how to do all of it my self. Hope you enjoyed my presentation and thank you for watching! 7
