About Me
I grew up in the small rural town of Barnstaple in Devon, where I developed a fascination with artisan crafts which later grew into an interest into the interactions within the built environment and more specifically architecture, which I later went on to study. During the day I can often be seen drinking a strong coffee namely an espresso, a love affair which first ignited whilst I was studying in Italy, this was a period which enabled myself to enjoy an even greater awareness of the arts and philosophy than I previously held and a desire to learn more about. I admire the works of Alvaro Siza, Alvar Aalto, Carlos Scarpe, Peter Zumthor, and Herman Herzberger, what I find most interesting about these architects in particular, is their respective approaches to design, the craft that they place upon their architecture, and the ways in which they respond to contextual issues.

On the first floor there is the temporary dwelling for the visiting musicians. With steel frame and aqual panels, we create a series of wall for the dwelling and at the same time removed the existing windows, as a result, outside the dwelling it becomes a loggia that provide leisure yet semi- private space for the visitors.
8
On the second floor, there is a sound recording studio connected to the dwelling, with the same method as the dwelling, we created loggia surround the recording studio. Eventually reach the roof top, we have a co-working space also connect directly by the spiral staircase from the dwelling, provide convinience and privacy for the peopel that stay in the dwelling to work comfortably.

Our main design strategy starts with inserting different organic shapes into the existing structures, and give them new functions. As we can see in the diagram above, which illustrate the design strategies on the right wing of building. In the basement and ground floor, there is a theatre which surrounded with new translucent glass panel wall, the curved organic shape free the existing strcuture from being touched, at the same time give the rigid historical building a new form.
8 1
At last, our design aim is to keep the existing structure and insert new forms and functions into the building. The adaption of organic curved forms not only emphasize our aim to distinguish the new functions and shape into the exisiting building, but also provide interesting experience of space inside the rigid and symmetrical building. We hope that every visitor that enter this building can enjoy different special moments from concert, dining, living to shopping.

There are two levels of seats for the audiences. One entrance is from the basement, which can be reached by lift or stairs. When visitors reaching the basement through the stairs or lift, they arrive at another beginning of the curve, which will lead them to the entrance of the theatre. The other entrance is on the ground floor, which close to the closet and bar in the lobby of the ground floor. Both floors have bathrooms for the visitors. There are also closet on the ground floor. The translucent curved glass wall covered the whole theatre, create semi-luscent space for the theatre. The space between the new wall and the existing wall become storage and circulation space for the staff.

GENERATIVE EVOLUTIONARY FORM FINDING SOFTWARE A series of generational massing was produced based on daylight and solar radiation requirements for the vertical greenhouse, based on local bioclimatic needs. Each generation represents an experiment of 50 generations of the same typology, in order to establish the viability of different architectural forms. This method was used in order to reach the best architectonic shape for the vertical farm in terms of what shape is the most effective and practicable.
BUILDING ENVELOPE Once a building typology was established, a series of experiments were carried out in order to develop the most suitable building envelope.
LIGHT TUBES In order to ensure all areas of the tower received adequate natural daylighting light wells were inserted to the building linking the darkest and the most illuminated areas of the tower.
SOLAR ANALYSIS An analysis of the building led to the discovery of dark spaces in the building form, this was rectified with light wells, the tower was then re-analysised to establish the effectivity of the light wells.
TOPOGRAPHY: MILANO Milano is a relatively flat city located on a plane between two mountain ranges
TOPOGRAPHY: LOMBARDIA Lombardy is a region in northern Italy, the North of the region contains the Alps and parts of the three great northern Italian lakes, the northern area of Lombardia is too in accessible to be farmed thus the mountains to the north of the region are relatively untouched.
TOPOGRAPHY: LOMBARDIA Lombardy is a region in northern Italy, the North of the region contains the Alps and parts of the three great northern Italian lakes, the region shares a boarder with Switzerland.
TOPOGRAPHY: LOMBARDIA The majority of the region is famously a fertile flat plane partitioned regularly by the canals that were dug throughout the centuries to provide transport to local goods, many of the canals were designed by Leonardo di Vinci. Consequently the majority of the human settlements within the region developed on the flat plains where food and trade routes were readily available. My Understanding of the Project Future House Floor Plans Scale: 1:00 Jacob Westerman
At the start of this project we sat in groups and discussed the possible range of people whom may live in the co-housing project below is a list of our suggestions in the order they were made. Ben Hackland: Head of a company, 36 unmarried, girlfriend, local to Bristol, ‘rents local too, Tim Stirling, no family of his own, workaholic, responsible for large company, goes watches football, consumerist/right wing, capitalist, middle to upper class, if he can gain money he will do something. me for this project was that there is another financial collapse like the one experienced in 2008, only this time instead of g out the banks the government does what happened in Iceland, and bails out the people allowing the banks to fail and voided blic’s debt. This has led to the end of financial institutions willing to give out mortgages and has led to the only way can afford a home is to save the same amount that would have been saved for a deposit and share that sum of money with a which then creates a co-housing scheme for residents, to ensure that the poor and homeless are taking care for the ment has created a requirement of providing a third of each co-housing development for the homeless and the disadvantaged. developing my theme/brief I realised that a co-housing project would not necessarily design a bespoke dwelling per individt would however design to ensure that no one is discriminated against for whatever reason and ensures that all the possible of a resident is met, essentially how I’ve interpreted a co-housing project is that it’s a residential project that can be to the highest and most practicable way possible due to the client is also the residents and therefore not someone who is g a profit for sale and therefore would wish to reduce expenses in any way possible. Thus my design is not bespoke to each dual but is however of the highest standard and most flexible for the resident with all the given constraints affecting this t. Scale: 1:20
