wright-way’s
historical pawprint
mission: Wright-Way Rescue, a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter, seeks to reduce the number of homeless adoptable dogs and cats euthanized in the Midwest each year through an adoption program, community education, promotion of spaying and neutering, and a shelter medicine outreach program.
2002
Christy Anderson, Wright-Way Rescue’s founder and current Director, visits a local animal control center. After discovering 90% of the animals are euthanized in rural facilities, she begins rescuing animals, housing them in her southern Illinois dorm room and placing them in homes. Wright-Way Rescue employs only two individuals and operates out of an office building/warehouse in Crab Orchard, Ill.
2006
Wright-Way’s 3.5-acre Admissions & Care Center is purchased in Murphysboro, Ill., and is renovated to provide state-of-the-art shelter for animals awaiting homes.
2008
Wright-Way Rescue opened the doors to the Adoption Center in Niles, Ill.
2010
The PETCO Foundation offers a grant to Wright-Way Rescue designated to launch Operation Lifesaver, providing an on-site limited veterinary service facility within the Wright-Way Rescue Admissions and Care Center. This allows Wright-Way to offer services from vaccinations to treatment of illness and minor injury. As a result of Operation Lifesaver, Wright-Way is able to rescue animals with treatable medical conditions — something many rescues choose not to do.
today
wright way rescue: - Employs approximately 30 staff members, ranging from veterinarians, technicians, groomers, animal care providers, trainers, and office staff. - Transports adoptable animals over 350 miles and 6.5 hours weekly from our Admissions and Care Center to our Adoption Center in the Chicagoland area. - Rescued over 12,000 animals that otherwise would have been euthanized. - Placed pets within homes in nearly 50 states, as well as multiple adopted pets residing overseas. - Saved the lives of over 4,000 homeless pets this year.
Compared to organizations with similar high volume adoption rates, Wright-Way Rescue operates on a fraction of their budgets. We rank among the top five animal rescues in the Chicagoland area for animal adoptions. Yet, our total contributions are significantly lower than the average yearly contributions to our fellow animal rescues.

(Left) This is a mother and son adoption team that adopted three litter mates. These lucky puppies will grow up together, go to work with their families, and run around in their fenced back yard. These three puppies, along with their seven litter mates, were scheduled to be euthanized at an animal control facility in southern Illinois. Because of Wright-Way, all 10 puppies were adopted to loving, forever homes.

about the intake center why is an intake center important?
Look for this paw print to see what’s been adopted!
The new Wright-Way Rescue Intake Center will provide a safe and efficient location to prepare homeless pets from the Chicagoland area for adoption. The Intake Center will allow homeless pets to be housed separately from those already prepared for adoption. The separation of incoming pets from the adoptable pets is essential to the animals’ health. With these expanded capabilities, Wright-Way Rescue will gaurantee life and decrease euthanasia rates throughout the rural Midwest and the city of Chicago. Wright-Way Rescue has partnered with over 10 PETCO stores across Chicago to adopt cats and kittens to the local community. Due to limited space at our current location, this parternship allows us to rescue and adopt more feline pets that would otherwise be faced with euthanasia.

Max, a pit-bull terrier mix, was surrendered as young puppy by a family who lost their home in foreclosure. They were living out of their car and brought Max to us. WrightWay rescued him and brought him to its Admissions & Care Center. After proper quarantine time, veterinarian examination, and temperament testing, Wright-Way made him available for adoption. Max has a rare story. There were not many interested in adopting him. Wright-Way refused to give up on this loving, gentle, and smart dog. Max waited patiently for a home for two and a half years. One Saturday, a family visited the adoption center, met Max, and instantly fell in love. He was adopted that day to a wonderful family in Glenview. He is absolutely thrilled to have the love of a family, a place to call home, and a long awaited, welldeserved life that we knew we could find him. Wright-Way frequently hears from Max’s family. They are so grateful to have found such an amazing dog. This summer, Max enjoyed trips to Michigan, running in a marathon, and relaxing with his family in his backyard. Most of all, Max is happy to finally have a family to call his own. Wright-Way Resue is determined to find every animal in our care a loving, forever home.
about
the second chance unit
Look for this paw print to see what’s been adopted!
every animal deserves a second chance.
They say cats have nine lives. We don’t know if that’s really true, but our Second Chance Unit gives animals who have a variety of treatable medical conditions a new beginning with life-saving medical treatment. Sometimes pets become ill or injured while waiting for adoption. Often times pets that are surrendered by their owners come in and require medical treatment before they would be considered “adoption ready.” Our Second Chance Unit features necessary medical equipment for life-saving veterinary care, as well as medications, veterinary supplies, and other equipment to care for these special animals. Medical conditions like upper respiratory illness, skin infection, and even broken limbs are all treatable under our team’s radar. Wright-Way Rescue is dedicated to providing the highest quality care for the pets in our adoption program, and that includes the ones that are temporarily “unadoptable” due to a treatable medical condition.
millie (Above) Millie was rescued from animal care and control in southern Illinois. She had one eye and three legs. Thanks to Wright-Way Rescue, she was given a second chance. She was adopted by the owners of a canine hydrotheraphy center and now lives an active lifestyle.

having the wright
products
Wright-Way Rescue’s Retail Center is important for multiple reasons. First, a large portion of all proceeds go directly toward the care of the our animals. We depend on the proceeds of the store to live out our mission. Second, we expect adopters to provide a high-quality diet for their pets, and we practice what we preach! Wright-Way chooses to feed our animals Fromm, an all-natural, USA made, meat-based product. Fromm is ranked one of the highest quality foods on the market and is just another example of how Wright-Way provides the best care to our animals. Finally, we feel a responsibility to adopters and community members to provide products that are Wright-Way approved. We make sure that all of the products sold in our store are safe and natural. Educating everyone about proper pet care is important to ensure adopted animals live a healthy, safe lifestyle.
