Adrian Grima Contemporary artist
Adrian Grima is the definition of a busy man. Apart from being a father of two adorable boys, he is also the Inizjamed co-ordinator, and co-ordinates the Third world group. In addition, Adrian's chosen profession is that of a teacher, and he lectures Maltese at Junior College and University. Adrian very kindly took some time out of his busy schedule for Klikka.net. Here's what he had to say… What is your greatest achievement?
Adrian is a proud father of two, so clearly the birth of his eldest son Samwel figures high up in his list of greatest achievements. "It is an incredible moment, witnessing the birth of another human being. I was with my wife in the delivery room, and I was afraid that I would faint but I didn't," Adrian recounted, enthusiastically. "I felt that being there for Nathalie (my wife) was the least I could do in that tough moment. I actually got to see my son before she did," he explained, adding that everything else just fades into comparison. What was your most embarrassing moment?
“There were so many of them,” he sighed, rifling through the memories in his head’s filing system and tapping on his chair. “I can’t pin point a particular one, but I am sure that there have been many,” Adrian

said, stalling time for more reflection. Aha! The expression on his face signified that he had recalled a moment which would provide him with an answer to my question. “I once asked a group of actors, which I was co-ordinating to stage a particular piece, but ultimately I asked them not to perform it. After the first night I regretted it because it was the wrong thing to insist on. However, it’s more of a regret than an embarrassing moment,” Adrian reflected. “Bygones, it is when one works that one makes mistakes,” he contemplated. If you could meet a celebrity, who would you choose?
Adrian looks up to Vincenzo Cerami, who wrote La Vita é Bella and Kevin MacNeil; “I don’t think that there’s anyone else I would add to my list.” What is your favourite childhood memory?
Adrian loved playing football; “I remember football being a very colourful game as a child. We had this feeling of camaraderie, friendship and adventure.” Adrian continued to practice the sport at school and university. “Nowadays, I am not a football fanatic and although I enjoy watching a good match, I often miss them because I forget. I’m not a team supporter, so I’m mostly interested in the proceedings of a game and the tactics used,” he added. What is your most annoying personality trait?
Adrian huffed, and pinched his lower lip between his forefinger and thumb, as he struggled to find a suitable answer. “Shyness: in my case it comes out in particular situation, not in class, but in other situations. I am generally the quiet type and I avoid social situations which make me feel uncomfortable,” he confided. Describe your ideal holiday
Adrian laughed upon hearing the question. “It would have to be with my family somewhere in the countryside with an element of ethnic or world music and different cultures,” he listed. Adrian recalled a holiday to Machu Picchu; “It is a lovely place, it’s much more beautiful than it is said to be. There’s so much culture, and history, all situated in the mountains. It feels out of this world,” he beamed.

The Tempra Contemporary Art Museum, set up in 1999, now occupies three floors at the Mġarr council premises. It was officially inaugurated last month at the opening of the 2012 Tempra Academy. The museum holds paintings, sculptures, graphics and other modern art works by 250 artists from 75 countries donated by Dame Françoise Tempra, a long-time resident of Mġarr. The Tempra Academy, which had its first edition in London in 1975, normally presents 50 cultural events during the year, including art exhibitions, lectures, concerts, recitals, poetry readings, films, fashion shows, and literary evenings in various countries. This year the Tempra Academy will hold events in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the US. At the opening of this year’s Tempra Academy, Fr Marius Zerafa, former curator of the National Museum, said he was delighted with the opening of the Tempra Museum as previous attempts to set up a contemporary art museum in Malta had failed. On January 26, Fr Zerafa received the 2011 Gold Medal of the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce from President George Abela, for his contribution to Malta’s artistic heritage and art historical scholarship. After the inauguration of the museum, a concert was held featuring the Marie Therese Vassallo Voice Studio, the

Fabio Borg Contemporary artist
Fabio Borg (b.1974) is a Graphic Designer by profession and works with a leading advertising agency in Malta. From a young age he studied drawing and painting at the school of Arts in Valletta, Malta. Between 1993 and 1997, Fabio went to Italy to study theology, philosophy and psychology. These academic studies show a great influence in his works. During his stay in Italy, Fabio met various italian artists who helped him a great deal in developing his ideas and thoughts. On local grounds, Fabio met Gabriel Caruana who is a pioneer in modern art among Maltese
artists and is the founder of the Mill, an artistic centre in Birkirkara. Gabriel was the one who gave birth to Fabio’s first solo exhibition at the Mill in May 1999. To this very day, Gabriel Caruana encourages Fabio and helps him a lot in his creations and career as an artist. Fabio’s work is an expression of his inner being. Each and every painting is the artist’s unconscious depiction of a given issue, concept or state of mind. Fabio says that his work is a mirror of his personality. Improvisation and spontaneity play an important role in his art enhancing the absolute harmony between the artist and his work that Fabio seeks to pursue.
“EVOLVING MOMENTS” was the title of the 4th solo exhibition by Maltese artist Fabio Borg which was held at Gallery Last Touch, in Main Street Mosta. This exhibition included twenty new canvas paintings that show how his style has evolved and changed in these last years

Art is a journey and each painting I do, it brings me closer to the destination.
Channelled into plummeting rivulets, cascading steep verticals, gently colliding squares and rectangles that either emerge forcefully or recede softly, colours symbolically allude to sin, evil, optimism, hope and passion. In Blue Room, the effervescent and mosaic presence of the blues represent the infidelity of Judas. More info: www.fabioborg.com
