The Fräbel Glass Art Studio
Since 1968, the Fräbel Studio has created some of the world’s most stunning works of art in crystal and color glass, which have enhanced the interiors of many homes, estates and office buildings. Companies and individuals choose Fräbels as symbols of exceptional achievement and as gifts to worthy employees, business partners, close friends and beloved family members on special occasions. A Fräbel expresses excellence through excellence, i.e. a hand created, unique work of glass art for an exceptional individual. Fräbels are so remarkable that they are frequently acquired as distinctive gifts for the rich and famous.

The Fräbel Studio was founded in 1968 by Hans Godo Fräbel, one of the very first flamework glass artists in the world, to give expression to his novel concept of flamework glass art. Traditional glass art, called furnace glass, is made by taking a small piece of molten glass out of a furnace with a metal blowpipe and working it into shape. Furnace glass allows for large pieces to be created, but does not offer the level of detail Fräbel was looking for. Fräbel wanted to utilize the detail capabilities of flamework to add a new and more exquisite dimension to the world of glass art. Presently eight glass artists are working at the Fräbel Studio creating magnificent works of art, which are on display in museums around the world such as the Smithsonian Institution, the Corning Museum of Glass and the National Builders Museum. Fräbel sculptures are in the hands of some of the most famous and powerful people in the world, such as Presidents Jimmy Carter, George Bush and Bill Clinton, Queen Elizabeth II, Emperor Akihito of Japan, Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, Oprah Winfrey, Elton John, Larry King, Wayne Newton, Stevie Wonder, Sting and Jane Fonda. Each studio sculpture receives the famous FS mark of the studio and the signature of the Fräbel artist who created the sculpture. Each oneof-a-kind or limited edition sculpture receives the GF mark, which stands for the name of the principal artist, Hans Godo Fräbel. The Fräbel Studio is open weekdays for visitors and tours.

Above This sculpture entitled “Cavorting Clowns“ was created by Hans Godo Fräbel in 1987. It was utilized by Absolut Vodka in their advertising outings during the late 1980’s until the early 1990’s. Hans Godo Fräbel joined the ranks of famous artists honored with the title of Absolut Vodka Artist such as Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Famous Fräbel Sculptures
The Fräbel Studio has created a great number of glass sculptures that revolutionized the world of glass art. One of the most famous Fräbel sculptures is the “Hammer and Nails”, created by Hans Godo Fräbel in 1977, which has been touring art museums around the world ever since. In the collection of the Smithsonian Institution is the dripping faucet created in glass, entitled “In the Middle of the Night”. With this sculpture, Hans Godo Fräbel “freezes” a dripping faucet in time, right at the moment when an exaggerated water drop is about to fall from the faucet. Fräbel playfully exaggerated the water drop on the faucet to symbolize the “loud” sound of any drop of water heard when one is in bed, trying to fall asleep. Another famous Fräbel sculpture is the “Cavorting Clowns” he created for Absolut Vodka when he was selected as Absolut Vodka artist in 1987. Fräbel was the first glass artist receiving this honor, joining other artists such as Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. His “Cavorting Clowns” sculpture was used in Absolut ads from 1987 until 1993 under the title “Absolut Fräbel”. The Fräbel Studio is also well known for its beautiful glass renderings of flowers, such as Orchids, Dogwoods and Magnolias. Examples of some of the Orchids the Fräbel Studio has created can be found on these pages.
Above “Venus with Umbrella” Hans Godo Fräbel, 2004. One of Hans Godo Fräbel’s trademarks is his incredible ability to create humanlike hollow figures. This“Venus with Umbrella” sculpture is from the series “Venus Atlantis” and focused on the elegant qualities of voluptuous women, which was created by Hans Godo Fräbel in 2004.

Why acquire Fräbel? There are many great reasons to acquire a Fräbel. They are beautiful, graceful, handcreated, very limited in supply and have been acquired by and for many prominent world citizens. When giving a Fräbel sculpture, the message accompanying the sculpture is one of expressing Excellence through Excellence. A Fräbel reminds us that we are unique and that the individual is significant and treasured. All Fräbels are created to perfection, which means that you will not find air bubbles, scratches or other imperfections in any of our sculptures. There are no “seconds” available at Fräbel. Each Fräbel that leaves the Fräbel Studio is perfect and stands by our vow of “Excellence in Glass Art”. Can a Fräbel be restored if it is broken? Yes. One of the unique properties of Fräbel sculptures is that we use specially formulated Borosilicate Glass which can be restored to perfection at a reasonable price; you will not even see that your Fräbel was ever broken. Is every Fräbel Unique? Fräbels come in 3 different forms: One-of-a-kinds, Limited Editions and Studio Collection. The Studio Collection Fräbels are also called Multiple Originals, which mean they are all created by hand and therefore, no two will ever be exactly the same. A Studio Collection sculpture is designed by master glass artist Hans Godo Fräbel or any other Fräbel artist and then created by one of the Fräbel artists for a certain period of time. The Studio Collection sculptures are not limited by number, but are retired after a certain period of time. Is every Fräbel Hand Made? Yes, every Fräbel is created entirely by hand, which mean that no two Studio Collection sculptures will be exactly the same. Do you use molds to create your glass sculptures? No. We never use any molds. What makes Fräbel sculptures so unique is that all sculptures are entirely free formed by hand. What glass are Fräbels created from and why? A Fräbel sculpture can be recognized by the embossed FS mark, which is the sign of the Fräbel Studio. One-of-a-kind Fräbels are embossed with the GF mark, which stands for the founder of the Fräbel Studio, master glass artist Hans Godo Fräbel. On the peg of each Fräbel, you can find the Fräbel name and the mark of the artist who executed the sculpture. Can Fräbels be shipped safely? Most Fräbels can be shipped worldwide without problems. Only very few Fräbel sculptures are so fragile that they require hand delivery.
