The seven Jacuzzi brothers emigrated to California from Italy. The brothers made great strides in aviation by inventing and flying the first enclosed cabin monoplane.

Larger units were created and built-in heating and filtration systems were introduced to accommodate groups of bathers, thus creating the first hot tub.

1956 The family’s hydraulic know-how proved invaluable when the youngest brother created a portable hydrotherapy pump. From that application, a small niche business developed. The family sold their portable pump, named J300, to hospitals and schools.

In addition to being recognised as the world’s largest selling brand of jetted whirlpool baths and hot tubs, Jacuzzi® has over 250 worldwide patents for advancements in pump systems, jet technology, air control and product design.

1968 The pump was later designed alongside the bath and new exclusive jet technology took the pump idea to a new level. A mix of 50% air and 50% water, turning through these special jets provided an experience like never before.

HERE’S SOME OF THE ENERGY SAVING FEATURES YOU’LL FIND IN A JACUZZI® HOT TUB: INSULATION

LOW WATT HEATING

This is the best way to ensure that heat loss from your hot tub is minimal and running costs are kept low. In addition to a tri-layer strong acrylic shell, all Jacuzzi® hot tubs combine two different types of foam to insulate all working components. High density foam surrounds the equipment while lighter insulating foam, between the interior and the cabinet, helps conserve energy.

Jacuzzi® hot tubs are heated via an ultra low-watt density energy conserving heating element. Water passes over the heater slowly, increasing the efficient transfer of heat to water and reducing mineral build up. Jacuzzi® hot tubs feature just the right number of jets to deliver a targeted massage, without requiring too much unnecessary pipework, which can cool water quickly.

Our new J-LX Collection also features a foam board wall that sits just inside the cabinet, which further reduces heat loss. In 2011, we also launch SmartSealTM. This is a third layer of insulation* made from recycled blue jean material that is environmentally friendly. This adds further protection against moisture, mould and also reduces noise.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY Choosing a Jacuzzi® hot tub means that you can relax knowing you’ve bought one of the most energy efficient hot tubs in the world. We use efficient jet pumps and dedicated circulation pumps to provide an entire energy-efficient system that powers the jets and the water features. The control system senses the water temperature and automatically ensures that it is controlled to the desired comfort level. The quiet-running pumps allow you to enjoy the refreshing and soothing sounds of moving water, from inside and outside of your hot tub. CIRCULATION PUMPS

HOT TUB FILTERS:

All our circulation pumps are engineered to heat, filter and sanitise in a highly efficient way. The circulation pumps also transfer heat created by the motor to the water, keeping it warmer longer and adding further to cost savings.

Filtration systems are not all the same. Neither are all filters. Don’t be fooled by “generic replacement filters” or using “imitations” instead of genuine Jacuzzi® approved hot tub filters.

CONTROL SYSTEMS All Jacuzzi® hot tubs feature an easy to use control panel that lets you maximise energy savings with precise programming of filtration cycles and temperature ranges. The control panel allows you to lock in your settings too which prevents unauthorised access.

Non-genuine hot tub filters may be less expensive, but using them could prove to be very costly to you in terms of performance and overall value. Your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub is an investment, and like any investment, proper and regular maintenance of your hot tub will help retain its beauty and performance. RUNNING COSTS Hot tubs remain connected to the mains, keeping water warm, on standby all year. It’s little wonder then that new hot tub customers worry that their new investment will cost a lot to run. But you can relax, good hot tubs will have several features designed to maintain heat and keep maintenance costs to a minimum. In 2008, we carried out some independent research with a UK agency, testing some of hot tubs to establish a running cost guide for Jacuzzi® hot tubs in the UK. Our energy usage calculations include initially heating the tub to 38°C four times a year, maintaining it at 38°C with allowances for minimal heat loss through the shell, cover and via evaporation plus the energy used to power pumps and filters. Since this study was carried out, we have further improved some of our insulating materials in Jacuzzi® hot tubs, so these indicative costs are likely to be slightly reduced.

All wood used in our hot tubs comes from suppliers supporting environmental management systems.

Backing materials on our cabinets is made from at least 80% recycled plastics.

LED’s in our hot tubs use approximately 8% of the energy used by a comparable incandescent bulb.

Our SmartSeal insulation is made from recycled blue jeans. This is available as standard on our J400 series hot tubs.

Jacuzzi® J-LX collection are made with 1.5" of high density heat-retaining backing as well as our standard insulation materials, making it these models the most energy efficient hot tubs in their class.

The Jacuzzi® hot tub factory is a leading modern facility, utilising a Thermal Regenerative Oxidiser during production; a greener practice that neutralises 99% of off gases that might ordinarily be released into the environment.

We have built a closed loop system to recycle virtually all of the water we use for testing our hot tubs.

Excess acrylic from our hot tub shells is ground up and recycled for other products such as industrial cleaning agents.

Our electronics do not contain lead and are non-toxic. This allows for safe disposal at the end of their lifecycle.

WATER EFFICIENCY A hot tub needs to be drained and re-filled up to 4 times a year. If it is well looked after and the water chemistry is managed effectively, the need to drain and refill is less frequent. The following components are used in Jacuzzi速 hot tubs, which all contribute to excellent water efficiency: As a guide, the amount of water used in any Jacuzzi速 hot tub over a year is equivalent to between 1 and 2% of the total annual water consumption of a typical 4 bedroom detached home with a family of 5. PLEATED FILTERS

ENERGY-SAVING NON-IMMERSION 3KW HEATER Features an ultra low-watt density, energy-conserving stainless steel heating element. Water passes over the heater slowly, increasing the efficient transfer of heat to water and reducing mineral buildup. The J400 series features a titanium heater for better heat retention.

Drive the ProClear filter system. On larger models one filter is dedicated to the 24-hour circulation system pump, turning the water over an average of 25 times each day. The second filter (not shown) works during normal use for maximum purification.

24-HOUR CIRCULATION PUMP Operates on 0.5 amp of electricity (same as a standard light bulb) slowly and efficiently moving water through the system. This pump is ideally balanced to work effectively with all components in the system.

PROCLEAR OZONATOR Optional unit utilizes corona discharge technology. It produces three times the ozone concentration over standard UV-ozone systems. The ProClear process will consistently produce cleaner, clearer water day after day for worry-free use.

The following pages introduce you to basic chemical maintenance and cleaning routines to help you chemically treat your hot tub safely. Due to the fact that hot tub water is warm, the chemical balance can alter easily, so it is important to test your hot tub water every day and if necessary, chemically adjust it to restore the water balance.

PH - This is the term used to indicate whether the

A sanitiser is a disinfectant chemical that is added to hot tub water to kill bacteria and keep it safe for bathers to sit in. The most popular (and strongest) sanitiser is chlorine. Another popular choice is Bromine, which is less harsh to sensitive skin and eyes. Most sanitisers are available to buy as granules or tablets. Tablets must be used with a slow release dispenser. Oxidiser is a natural sanitiser based on active oxygen and some people find this non-harmful option suits them best. It is generally recommended that a shock dose of chlorine is periodically used to make sure that bacteria is controlled effectively this way.

ALKALINITY - This refers to the measure of alkaline salts affecting the balance of the water. Alkalinity also affects water hardness, so itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s important to measure the water balance accurately to avoid scaling.

Use Jacuzzi® Chlorine Granules to keep your hot tub water clean and bacteria free. Chlorine is a strong sanitiser recommended for regular hot tub use.

Jacuzzi® pH+ will be required if the pH level of the hot tub water is too low (too acidic).

OXIDISER

Use Jacuzzi Oxidiser (Non Chlorine) as a basic sanitiser to keep your hot tub water free from bacteria. It can also be used as a shock dose with other sanitisation. Jacuzzi® Oxidiser is based on active oxygen, a natural sanitiser. It is still recommended that a little Chlorine or Bromine, used as a shock dose, is periodically used to keep bacteria away. ®

JACUZZI® BROMINE TABLETS Use Jacuzzi® Bromine Tablets to keep your hot tub water clean and bacteria free. Bromine is less harsh on sensitive skin and eyes, but is also an effective sanitiser. Tablets must always be used with a dispenser.

JACUZZI® pH– Jacuzzi® pH- will be required if the pH level of the hot tub water is too high (too alkaline).

JACUZZI® HARDNESS INCREASER To inhibit corrosion, it is generally beneficial to have a high calcium hardness level. Use Jacuzzi® Hardness Increaser to raise hardness levels accordingly, especially in soft water areas.

JACUZZI® NO FOAM Cosmetics, oils and various forms of pollution all contribute to the production of foam within a hot tub when air is being introduced. Jacuzzi® No Foam can be used as a weekly treatment to prevent foam from starting.

JACUZZI® SPA POLISH

Jacuzzi® Spa Clear is a clarifier, meaning that it clears hot tub water when it gets murky. It is a liquid that is added to hot tub water to aid filtration and is generally suitable for both cartridge and sand filters.

Helps to maintain the shine of your hot tub and to clean the heat retention cover.

JACUZZI® NO SCALE JACUZZI® FILTER CLEANER A clogged filter can lead to poor water quality. Liquid Cartridge Cleaner is a traditional liquid cleaner which is very effective in use. Use monthly to avoid build up.

Used on a regular basis, Jacuzzi® No Scale restricts the build up of scale and helps maintain swivelling water jets.

JACUZZI® EVERYDAY CLEANER As the name suggests, Jacuzzi® Everyday Cleaner is effective in cleaning the tide line around a hot tub. This is a pH neutral product, ready to use from its spray bottle and can be used everyday if required.

JACUZZI® ALGAECIDE Used weekly, Jacuzzi® Algaecide, is an effective means of preventing algal growth when used in conjunction with a sanitiser.

WATER TREATMENT CONTINUED JACUZZI® CHEMICALS RANGE DO’S AND DONT’S

Always read the label on each product and follow the instructions.

Use chemicals in a well ventilated area. Beware of strong winds when using powders.

Never mix chemicals.

Keep chemicals away from children and animals.

Use clean containers for pre dissolving chemicals.

If diluting chemicals, fill container with water and add the chemical to the water, never the other way around. Mix thoroughly to dissolve.

Limescale, which forms on the side of a hot tub (like the inside of a kettle) if left unseen, can cause damage to the-jets. Use Jacuzzi® No Scale to prevent the build up of limescale.

Always shower before using your Jacuzzi® hot tub. This helps keep your tub water cleaner for longer.

Try to avoid spills but in such an event use clean dry equipment to clear up. The best place to dispose of the spill could be in the hot tub but only if a small quantity of chemical is involved.

Do not add chemicals to the hot tub when it is in use.

It is a good idea to have a spare filter to use whilst one is being cleaned.
