the marie aiello story. new identity for an interior designer to superstars.
challenge. marie aiello is a world class interior designer with notable clients, from the rockefeller family to chef eric ripert, yet she desired more commercial work beyond her residential clients. she had an unfinished website from a challenging team and came to us for a fix of brand vision + a finished site. solutions. we utilized our proprietary brand discovery which helped marie focus in on her specific gifts and the language to promote to her market. her finished site is a gem. results. after our work together, marie booked seven new jobs plus she won the bid to design a 669-room hotel for tsx broadway, a new multi-use new development in times square, nyc.
the scott sanders story. a former ralph lauren interior designer shines his own star. challenge. scott sanders, formerly the lead interior designer at ralph lauren and now a world class interior designer with notable clients, from the rubell family to the zucker family of cnn, was referred to us when he was chosen as a designer for a real estate showcase, the printing house. in addition, he was set to do a legendary hotel renovation and a book on the project. The challenge was that all projects were not yet complete, so how to create news and visibility for scott? solutions. we placed scott as an expert on nesting tables in elle décor; we offered details of the upcoming renovation of the lord baltimore hotel project to departures magazine to build anticipation for the project as well as hosting michelle obama’s designer, barbara tfank’s show for fashion week in scott’s home, which resulted in meet and greets and coverage in vogue and patrick mcmullan. results. we booked scott for an industry featured talk + tour of the hotel at neocon; we pitched + placed the printing house project as an exclusive for space of the week in new york magazine; we placed scott’s manhattan penthouse for a multi-paged story in ny cottages + gardens and placed his hamptons home as a story feature on a european affiliate of cnn, ntv.
the scott sanders + rubell hotel’s lord baltimore hotel story. the lord baltimore hotel gets a new suit of clothes. a restaurant re-awakens. challenges. the national landmark, 440-room lord baltimore hotel, a crowning architectural jewel of the city when it was built in 1928, had fallen into ruin and bland mass-hotel chain ownership. the hotel was completely restored this year to its former glory by one of america's legendary art collector families, the rubells, in creative partnership with interior designer scott sanders, formerly the lead interior designer at ralph lauren. rubell hotels is a family-owned business well known for transforming architecturally significant historic hotels into affordable cultural hubs and has welcomed guests in other cities including luminaries from the fields of art, fashion, music and food, from beyonce to jeff koons. a 100-seat restaurant, the french kitchen, features exceptional dining in a 2-story room with original architecture grandly modeled on the hall of mirrors at versailles. chef de cuisines zeke altenbernd leads the culinary team, bringing a keen contemporary eye to dishes. would baltimore embrace this transition and come downtown? would major media care? yes. solutions. trade: we hit large with a cover story in interiors+sources and every hotel trade magazine from: hotel design magazine to hotel business to hotel executive covered. consumer: even before the photographs were ready, we gave a sneak preview “designer’s notebook” story to departures; the exclusive to the new york times and for magazines, elle décor, forbes, global traveler and even architectural digest italia covered. local tv and newspapers covered. results. five-hundred people plus the mayor came to the ribbon cutting. the restaurant and hotel are being proclaimed as baltimore’s best and the french kitchen has won a 2014 baltimore magazine best of baltimore award for "best décor."
the matthew david story. we create major visibility for an event + design visionary.
challenge. this event planner to the stars (think: madonna) was talented but always behind the scenes out of the public eye. matthew david wanted in! solutions. we secured media training for matthew and positioned him as a stylist with insider tips so he would shine on tv. results. we created media content placements for feature stories in major magazines such as o, instyle, out and bridal guide with multiple (three to seven) pages and contributor credit and made sure he was filmed by access hollywood for his design for the launch of p.diddy’s sean john flagship store in nyc.

the design within reach story. how an obscure 1973 issue becomes the season’s hot design book…in just 3 weeks. challenges. our firm was approached one early november to publicize and spark holiday sales of the first book published by design within reach, the mid-century modern furniture retailer with 16 stores. the book, entitled how to see, by george nelson the famous designer, was wonderful, but there were challenges. nearly every editor mentioned that the book being a re-issue and selfpublished by a private company as a deterrent to coverage. coupled with the fact that we had only a few weeks to get placements - it seemed impossible to obtain media coverage which would impact the sale of the book for the holiday season. solutions. we positioned the book as a new classic and a collector’s item. we hit strong right from the start with our design, media and lifestyle contacts. hits included a new york times style section write up in books of style, followed by placements in la times, the magazines-in step design, metropolis, id and npr radio segments with george nelson’s sidekick and the book’s graphic designer. results. sales of the book were positively impacted in time for the holidays and the buzz was great!
the babalu miami story. how to sell condoms + diamonds together. luxury is convenience. challenges. a new tiny gift store in the new herzog + de meuron landmark building in miami beach needed to come out of the gate with strong branding to match its more established neighbors, such as taschen, y3 and shake shack. solutions. we brainstormed the term, “luxury convenience store” with the owners which drove all aspects from that point: logo, packaging, press releases, blog, social media and website. pr, tied to social media: we followed with a social media platform consultation and brand profile on facebook which made fun use of the color pink to begin interest and traffic with postings on art, culture, music, lifestyle…everything pink. design of an e-commerce promotional program: we spearheaded directing and consulting the team on the content messaging for social media, blog newsletter, promotional calendar, and a program to increase their online business. results. after opening the store in august and launching the e-commerce in october, media hits thus far include t magazine: the new york times, the sun sentinel, several dailycandy.com mentions, julib.com, urbandaddy.com and elle magazine among many others. in a short time there were 1000+ followers on the social media platform. babalumiami.com

the green provocateur for salone del mobile in milan story. rocketing an artist from just “another gallery show” to a buzz-worthy urban art intervention + international conference invites. challenge. artist, paul clemence came to us to help promote a potential gallery show in milan in a small academic setting during salone del mobile, the international design fair attended by 300,000 people from around the world. as paul’s bold images feature architectural patterns, we immediately envisioned his art off the gallery walls and projected into the landscape of the city itself. solutions. green provocateur was formed as a concept and dialogue to feature artists’ expressions on the meeting of green and the urban space. we pitched amazelab’s green island satellite fair and were invited to create an urban art installation. from conception to reality, an un-noteworthy set of stairs to the garibaldi train station platform was transformed into a thoughtful and inspiration spot in the neighborhood. green provocateur created a crowd-funding profile on indiegogo.com to raise installation funds. a wordpress blog, a twitter page and an integrated facebook page created excitement and followers for the project. results. metropolis magazine commissioned a blog post series for salone and the project. green provocateur was invited to replicate the installation in prague; invited to speak a a brazilian art conference and garnered interest from puma creative, prada, renault and blackberry. the project was widely reported in the media from gq, marie claire, interni, metropolis, stylepark and all the major italian daily newspapers. in 2011, jade dressler was invited to speak on the project at boomsp design, an international design conference held in sao paulo, brazil, on the speaker roster with design visionaries such as karim rashid, chad oppenheim, and dror.
