The Garcia Family
The Garcia family is a family of three who love to spend time together and socialize. Their family is made up of Julian, Carleigha, and their daughter Ava. Julian and Carleigha met at a charity event at an art gala and soon after they began to date. A year later they were married in Paris, France. Because of their jobs, it took them several years to start a family; but eventually they decided that they wanted a child. Soon after Ava was born and they couldn’t be happier.
Julian Garcia is a man of many talents and tastes. As a businessman and entrepreneur he believes that to be the best you have to look the best. He enjoys his collection of art and Armani suits. Carleigha Garcia just recently had a birthday, while also finishing her very first jewelry and hand bag line. She loves accessories more than most of her clothes and has the style to prove it. Their daughter Ava is an active, 10 year old girl who loves ballet and learning French.
On the weekends they enjoy spending time surrounded by family and friends. Entertaining is what they live for, if there is a party you will most likely find the Garcia’s there. In their free time they enjoy many things dancing, art, music, and learning about new cultures. They also enjoy celebrating Ava’s many talents.

STAIRCASE INSPIRATION
This grand staircase was the main idea behind the final product of the Ortiz’s entryway. The vertical lines and the floating steps helped bring the staircase to life.
The first impression of your home is everything. It’s what your friends and family will see as they walk through the front door and it’s the last thing they see before they leave. So having an incredible staircase can really leave a lasting impression on your guests. For this project, the Ortiz family really wanted to keep things relatively neutral but still make a statement. These inspiration pictures helped in the process of coming up with the final entryway. Several elements from each picture were taken into consideration when coming up with the final stairway.

CARNE GUISADA
COLORFUL FOOD, DISTINCT TASTE Puerto Rican Cuisine
On the island of Puerto Rico, the landscape is just as beautiful and colorful as the food itself. This little country’s food has gotten an unwarranted reputation for having extremely hot and spicy foods but in reality the food is seasoned quite lightly. Many different herbs and spices are used and give each dish color and a distinct taste: like Sofrito, a sauce, and Adobe, a seasoning puton meat. These are some of the main smells coming from open windows at meal times. The main dishes include a lot of fried foods, meats, beans and rice, and stews. Carne Guisada, like the image above, is a Puerto Rican beef stew. Each stew is different because many chefs on the island like to make it their own; they usually contain a variety of peppers, onions, cilantro, potatoes, and of course meat. Desserts on the island are frequently made with the abundant amount of fruit harvested. Vegetables, like pumpkin, are also used to make the base of dessert like the traditional Puerto Rican cake. One of the most commonly used ingredients in their desserts is coconut because of its many uses of its milk. A typical metal will finish with strong, black, Puerto Rican coffee; served either espresso black or with a lavish amount of hot milk and sugar. Rum is the national drink and Puerto Rico is the largest producer in the world.
1- 1/2 Lbs. Stew meat 1 Tsp. capers (alcaparrado) 2-3 Medium potatoes 2 Tbsp. cooking wine 1 Envelope sazón 1 tbsp. sofrito 1 Tsp. adobo 1 8 oz. can tomato sauce 2-3 Carrots (optional) 1-2 laurel leaves 1 can petit-pois (peas) Salt to taste 1 Tsp. Manzanilla olives (3-4 olives) Directions Season the stew meat preferably the night before or 15-20 minutes before cooking so the adobo can do its trick. In a pressure cooker*, place the sofrito, tomato sauce, sazón, capers, wine, and meat. Fill pot half way with water and seal the lid. Cook for 30 minutes on medium heat. (The 30 minutes start when the vapor starts to escape from the pressure valve) Cook (without the lid) for 15-20 minutes on medium heat or until all the veggies are soft but firm. Add the petit-poi (peas) 5-10 minutes before the stew is done and stir carefully as to not mash the peas.

Benjamin is not afraid to take risks, he likes to push the boundaries of design. His style can be described as many things: playful but functional, seductive and calm. Each room inspires and continues to drive others with to push past the limits of design. “As designers our job is to think differently, to forget everything that they teach you in grade school and look at life with open eyes. he Garcia family loves to entertain. So in their home, the living room is the room where they spend most of their time gathering to socialize and create memories. The room was kept relatively neutral while adding some fuschia and blues, as well as gold accents. The pieces of furniture were chosen for their unique looks. Contrasting old with the new, the George III period parcel sofa was covered in a Jimmie Martin impressionist fabric. This adds some fun to the room, as well as, the Jimmie Martin mannequin lamp. Combining these pieces helps create an eclectic look while still being modern.
