OBJECTIVE
This section is a collection of designs and
COURSE
artwork from my everyday life. Common
Type Experiments
environments that I encounter everyday were selected and examined for the feelings they convey when I am there. The three locations
INSTRUC TOR
Stanley Zienka
chosen are the SF Museum of Modern Art, the
PROJECT TITLE
Library at the Academy of Art, and my home.
Feelings SEMESTER
Spring 2018 A P P ROAC H
Of the three areas covered in this section, I chose different colors themes for each. For example, I chose a light calm light blue
C AT E G O R I E S
for my home because this is a place that gives me a familiar and comfortable feeling where I feel like I can relax. For the library, I chose maroon because in this environment, I feel busy and there are many things happening in this space that make me feel uncomfortable. Finally, for the Museum of Modern art, I used tan since the environment made me feel quiet and focused. This type of environment is perfect for studying.

OBJECTIVE
In this section, the subject is a podcast
COURSE
called "The Magic Show." In it, host Ira
Type Systems
Glass and several other guests discuss their stories from childhood to adulthood. My goal is to take the material from the podcast
INSTRUC TOR
Brooke Hanson
and design a book that visually conveys the
PROJECT TITLE
stories to the audience.
The Magic Show SEMESTER
Fall 2017 A P P ROAC H
This book is divided into three chapters. The primary colors chosen are black and white. In the first part, I used very abstract
C AT E G O R I E S
pictures because I think magic can be very mysterious. I used the props from "The Magic Show" as inspiration in the second part, and my way of expressing those props was by using lines and circles which represent the magic wand and balls. In the third part, I used the Statue of Liberty as the main picture to express the conversation since the magic was directly related to it.

WASTELESS
OBJECTIVE
This section is about how to reduce food
COURSE
waste. We see wasted food in many parts of
Visual Thinking
our lives, as there are many situations where we have leftover food. For example, many people have leftovers when cooking, however
INSTRUC TOR
Jeremy Stout
many people don't know how to deal with
PROJECT TITLE
leftovers, which leads to excessive waste.
Wasteless SEMESTER
Spring 2018 A P P ROAC H
To address this problem, I created a poster series, an app, a website, and innovative food container designs. My color theme for this section is an intense yellow because this
C AT E G O R I E S
Print, Packaging, App, Web
type of yellow has the meaning of warning. The use of large fonts conveys that the amount of food that is wasted is enormous. In the website, there are instructions on how to cook leftovers to create a delicious meal. There is also an app, and its primary function is to remind the user when their food will expire, thus reducing unnecessary waste. The container design focuses on the amount of food. It is a size-adjustable lunch box which can stretch and contract, and sizes available include a container with 1-2 servings, 2-4 servings, and 4-6 servings. This can effectively control people

to waste less food by creating appropriate

portion sizes.

BEDL A M
OBJECTIVE
In this section, a word is selected and
COURSE
is used as the theme and inspiration for the
Type Experiments
objects and designs shown. I have chosen the word 'bedlam' which means chaos or mayhem. I have decided to select an object that is very familiar to many people all over the world – Lego blocks.
INSTRUC TOR
Stanley Zienka PROJECT TITLE
Bedlam SEMESTER
Spring 2018 A P P ROAC H
I chose to use Lego blocks to express the meaning of this word because although these pieces may look simple with each piece
C AT E G O R I E S
having a relatively similar shape, combining them together involves creativity with a variety of outcomes. Life can often seem simple and is also made of rather simple elements. Nevertheless, putting these together requires a creative imagination. At times, both Lego blocks and elements of life can be scattered and feel fragmented.

Tortured Love SEMESTER

As mentioned, this section talks about an Eminem song called "Twisted." The mood of this song feels dark and very twisted as the name would imply. I took a set of pictures and placed them on transparent paper and

crumpled it, which gave it a twisted feeling. My fonts are handwritten and have specially designed typefaces to convey the mood of the song. This poster is presented in a very rhythmic form, very similar to the rhythm visualization displayed on the screen when playing music on an electronic device.
